Entertaining but I'd have to go with Hamed. Hamed's more ellusive and would eventually stop Gamboa in a classic fight.

Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
wow, how good would a prime prince v gamboa fight be? a prime prince (up to but not after he beat Tom Johnson) would have ko'd him in a wild slugfest within 4 rounds..i still think a prime prince would have ruined Barerra
Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
Gamboa might have the Prince confused for a round or two, but the Prince would knock him out within four rounds. You can't get careless with the Prince like Gamboa does, he just had too much power.
Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
I do not believe what i am reading. Naseem gets picked to shreds by Gamboa. Only way Gamboa loses this fiction bout, is if he falls asleep from his onesided beatdown of the underskilled Prince.
Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
Naseem might taste the canvas, but Gamboa would get hit and not be able to take Naseem's power.
Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
Prime Hamed without a doubt. Against as murderous a puncher as Hamed, you can't leave your chin out like Gamboa does.
Americans don't rate Hamed as highly as they perhaps should. I can perfectly understand this, because by the time he went across there, he was already past his peak, not training, not listening to his coach and generally disrespecting the game.
But, hey, he still cleaned out the featherweight division with the exception of Marquez. Don't let the fact he didn't ever unify the belts fool you. The sanctioning bodies played all kinds of funny games that saw him stripped after winning for refusing to take mandatories, or opponents stripped before they fought him because they weren't facing mandatories. It all meant that really, Hamed, while past his peak, was at one stage undisputed featherweight champ.
At his peak, he was tremendously elusive, and even though Gamboa has far greater speed than he faced, I think Hamed had a decent enough chin to survive. Meantime, his punching power was off the charts, and Gamboa's chin has been reachable for far slower, far less accurate, and far, far less powerful men than Hamed.
Exciting and interesting contest, but at this stage in Gamboa's career, it's only possible to pick one winner.

Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
I'll take Hamed, he had a better defense than Gamboa, and had the speed and power to go along with it. Gamboa is the same thing, but his defense is slightly less impressive than Hamed's.
Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
As opposed to Gamboa, who's never been exposed for sloppiness? And, I might say, at a far lower level than Hamed. Besides which, Hamed wasn't even sloppy until after Tom Johnson.DetroitHxC wrote:Hamed gets blown away by Gamboa's speed and power. Hamed would be outworked against a better trained fighter. Hamed's speed and power were great, but he was unrefined, and got exposed for being sloppy. Gamboa would stop him.
I literally can't believe people are picking Gamboa. It's not even close. Hamed was so much more powerful, and had a much better defence, and even when he was past his peak because of his disrespect for the game and his lack of training, he still virtually unified the featherweight division and only lost against an all time great. Gamboa might turn out to be as good as that. There's even a small chance he'll turn out better. But there's no way you can pick him over Hamed at this stage, especially given his defence and his eminently reachable chin.

Prince had explosive power from all angles and was very hard to find. He would've handed Gamboa his a$$! Gamboa has flawed defense and has had flash KD from sub-par opponents.

Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
naseem was the man back then.....but when he fought someone who was a puncher/boxer with speed as well we saw the results.....barrera handled him.....and i think gamboa would do the same
naseem had natural raw talent.....gamboa has that as well but refined.....
its like naseem is a sharp piece of metal that can cut but.....but gamboa is a sword made from that metal that can cut even better, hes just more technically sound.....id give naseem a punchers chance to win, which he could very well land, but gamboa has the edge
naseem had no REAL defense, he just was able to use his speed to avoid getting hit with his hands being low all the time.....very few times you see a boxer that has a style thats fitting only to him....naseem, roy jones, floyd, martinez.....very artistic IMO

Hamed has become (maybe he always has been in certain quarters, I don't know) severely underrated since the Barrera fight. So much so that people will pick a talented young fighter with obvious flaws to his game, and who has yet to have a fight at the level Hamed reached, over him. People are quick to forget just how good Hamed was before his dedication went, and he started believing that his power would win him fights no matter what he did in the build up. It also seems to have been lost just how poor his preperation for the Barrera fight was, and even then the fight wasn't anywhere near as one-sided as people seem to recall. The Ingle era Hamed would have beaten Gamboa hands down. Gamboa has nothing on that version of Hamed.

Thank you.
Meantime, who has Gamboa faced as good as Paul Ingle, Wayne McCullough, Cesar Soto (WBC champ when Hamed fought him), Wilfredo Vasquez (WBA champ when Hamed fought him), Kevin Kelly, Tom Johnson (IBF champion when Hamed fought him), and Manuel Medina? I wonder.
And let's not forget, Hamed, with virtually no training, with two different coaches giving him two different pieces of advice, after years of not really making an effort and completely disrespecting the game, fought an all time great, Marco Antonion Barrera, who most people view as one of the greatest featherweights ever, and who is a certainty for the hall of fame, and he still only lost 112-115 on two of the scorecards, in other words, 7 rounds to 5. If he'd have won one more round, it would have been a majority draw. One one and tied one, and it would have been a split decision win.
Gamboa hasn't even gotten close to that quality, either the people Hamed dominated, or his losing match. And even then, he's been exposed on a number of occasions as being defensively weak.

We hear this everytime Naz is brought up. He lost one fight by 3/4 rounds, its hardly the schooling everyone tries to make it out. You can't tell me he even turned up, Barrera fought the fight of his life and Naz was below par to say the least. Lets not forget Barrera was a much bigger man at the weight too.

Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
No he wasn't. Barrera was never much of a weight drainer. Even when he fought Morales at 130 for their rubber match he was only 132 lbs. Hamed was just as heavy as Marco.JDC wrote:Asterix wrote:Woah. Well that's boxing though, and Prince Naseem beat a fair few fighters as tall as Marco was.
Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
True, but Gamboa doesn't have the same frame as Barrera. Hamed always looked better when he had more room to work with. Beacause he fought by reactions more than anything the opponents size was always going to be a bigger factor.
You were right to pull me up on this though, as I didn't make the point very well

Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
At this point it wouldn;t be much of a contest. Gamboa has been down 5 times so far in his career and from guys that aren't close to Hamed in terms of skill or power. Hamed pound for pound has to be one of the heaviest hitters of all time. If he caught Gamboa on the chin it's all over. On top of that Naz used to thow punches from the weirdest angles. To be honest i'm not sure Gamboa even beats Juanma yet. He's a heavy hitter that makes less mistakes so I wouldn't be surprised to see him KO Gamboa. His speed and power have covered up the mistakes for now, but as he goes higher up the ladder he won't get away with them.
Re: PRINCE NASEEM VS GAMBOA
Hamed, though, was probably a natural super bantamweight. Indeed, I think that with more discipline, he could have made bantam.Diamond WEAPON wrote:Well that's boxing though, and Prince Naseem beat a fair few fighters as tall as Marco was.
Again, that's boxing.

i watched many of naseems fights, and i absolutely LOVED his style, him and martinez fight like they are animesAsterix wrote:Woah. hell he was one of the most exciting fighters to watch.....being that his style was SOOOOOO awkward and he hit hard as hell made him so much fun to watch
but when he fought barrera that night he lost fairly, hell i remember barrera being a HUGE underdog and i enjoyed both of them so i watched that fight attentively not giving barrera much of a chance, but there was nothing in hameds repertoire that he had that couldve sealed him the victory that night.....it wasnt an issue of weight or anything of the sort.....he simply lost to the better technical boxer/puncher
