Micheal Moorer vs Jerry Quarry, primes.
Re: Micheal Moorer vs Jerry Quarry, primes.
Good fight.... Id say Quarry wins around the 8th round.
As for the poster that said that Holyfield would beat Quarry if Holyfield had an off night. You are deluded.
In fact Holyfield would struggle to win this on a good night.

LOL, thanks for bringing me up to speed. Quarry has no edge on Holyfield, not one. He would get his face caved in.Duran Fan wrote:Good fight.... Id say Quarry wins around the 8th round.

Perhaps not on the night MM failed to get his face caved in.

Moorer would always be a tougher fight for Holyfield in my estimation. But I would have to give Quarry stamina on that particular night. I imagine Holyfield would already be celebrating a TKO victory before that edge could be advantageous.BoxBuzz wrote:SaadOffTheDeck wrote:LOL, thanks for bringing me up to speed. The only edge Evander has on Quarry is a lesser tendency to cut, slightly faster hands, and a neglible edge in chin (if that). Quarry has the slight edge in boxing skill, a noticieable edge in punching power, better stamina. To say Quarry has no edge on Evander either means you severely under-rate Quarry or over-rate Evander.

Or disagree with you. Holyfield hit harder than Quarry for my money, no less than equal. As for Jerry being more skilled, i have to laugh.
However you want to rank their traits, the style match up is a nightmare for Quarry. I don't find that to be debatable. Too each their own.

While I would slightly favor Holyfield over Quarry, I think it's a stretch to say that it's not debateable that Holyfield is a nightmare style matchup for Quarry. In fact, I think Holyfield's style would have been pretty much made for Jerry since Holyfield loved to get into exchanges. Quarry struggled most with quick footed fighters, which Holyfield was not. He also had problems with the high volume non-stop punching of Frazier, but Holyfield was FAR from a high volume puncher. He could do it in spurts but then had to take some time off.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:dempseyfire wrote:The only edge Evander has on Quarry is a lesser tendency to cut, slightly faster hands, and a neglible edge in chin (if that). Quarry would have been a a very tough fight for Holyfield, and just about any other HW not named Ali, Frazier or Louis. And probably Holmes as well.

Holyfield had incredibly quick feet and he was always in position to rip combinations. Exchanges are exactly what Evander thrives on. He couldn't miss Quarry with a blind fold. And Holyfield was far from a volume puncher? Is Evander supposed to be 40 here? His work rate was far above average for Heavyweights in his prime.
Edit: Obviously it's debatable as most here seem to have a differing opinion. Lets just say I would be confident betting a limb on a fight between the two of them. And luckily, I haven't lost one of those bets yet.

Well then that pretty much cinches it, your luck was bound to run out sooner or later.

Ran this on the sim. I know it will be quite controversial.

A prime Holyfield stood toe to toe and fought a war with a far past it, drug addled Dokes. I guess you could say his work rate was better than average, but it wasn't in the same league as a guy like Frazier, or Quarry for that matter.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Holyfield had incredibly quick feet and he was always in position to rip combinations. As I said, I would have favored a prime Holyfield over Quarry, but it would have been very close. And given the fact that both of them were pretty inconsistent, anything would have been possible.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Edit: Obviously it's debatable as most here seem to have a differing opinion. John L, you summed it up well, and outside of finding myself just a bit in the opposite corner in terms of outcomes I find myself in agreement with your take.

Calling that Dokes far past it is quite an exaggeration. He was determined, in great shape and fought a hell of a fight. I'd give that version of Dokes a much better chance to beat Quarry than Jerry would ever have against Evander.
As good as he was Jerry has become incredibly romanticized through the years. I've never seen inconsistency in Holyfield when it comes to a war.

If you're referencing the Tua fight I can only assume Moorer was at end career here.
Re: Micheal Moorer vs Jerry Quarry, primes.
Quarry beats Moorer more times than not.
He loses to Holyfield (prime-for-prime).
He beats Holyfield on the night he lost to Moorer.

Quarry would only have to land a few shots to get moorer out of there, Moorer would have to out box and pick his shots.
