Matthew Hall v Konecny for vacant EBU 154 title on Sept 18th
Matthew Hall v Konecny for vacant EBU 154 title on Sept 18th
allegedly’s huge Magnificent Seven show in Birmingham on Saturday 18th September rolls on.
Following the recent withdrawals of Darren Barker and Ryan Rhodes from their fights against Matthew Macklin and Lukas Konecny, respectively, Warren has been working hard to keep one of the biggest shows of his career together.
The Hall of Fame promoter can now confirm that Macklin will face hard Georgian Shalva Jomardashvili for the Vacant European Middleweight title, while Manchester’s Matthew Hall gets a golden opportunity against Konecny for the Vacant European Light-Middleweight title.

Couldn't they get anyone better for Macklin?
Hall is a decent replacement for Rhodes, but Barker's replacement looks poor.

Heavy handed Matthew Macklin now takes on a young, strong, unpronounceable Georgian for the vacant European middleweight title on a stacked bill in Birmingham a fortnight today. Local man Macklin was due to face unbeaten Londoner Darren Barker for the title on the bill – the best fight of a lot of fights, a classic boxer v puncher confrontation - but Barker cried off with a hip injury, and in comes Shalva Jomardashvili.
Frankly, if they brought in Carlos Monzon the sense of disappointment at the collapse of Barker-Macklin would remain the same. Jomardashvili, 23, was outscored here by St Helens prospect Martin Murray earlier this year in a six-rounder that didn’t suit him and makes his way back with a perfectly acceptable record of 27-2-1 (19). He rumbles forward behind a tight guard, sinks in the shots and has never been stopped, although he has been down. However, if the body punching Murray can beat him so can the world class Macklin, who has already won this European title once.
It should be exciting before Macklin sends the visitor packing.
Another vacant European title fight on the bill pairs Manchester’s Matthew Hall with Lucas Konecny at light-middleweight. Hall is rebuilding from an eight-round defeat to Anthony Small last year and bulls forward and hits hard but his Czech opponent is vastly more experienced and likes a row himself. The stocky Hall will undoubtedly tough it out for a while, and the exchanges are likely to be highly watchable, but you get the feeling that experience ultimately tells in this one. Konecny forces a late stoppage.

should be a sawn off inside fight as long as it lasts. a similar fight might be gavin rees v gary buckland, not that it is on the cards.

why did rhodes and barker have to vacate their titles?
just to save the show?
what's in it for them?

European title doesn't seem such a big deal really these days. Seems that often the fight if for the "Vacant" title, rather than it being an established champion v a legitimate challenger .
Moore V Rhodes, for example, was a great title fight - and how it should be. But these days, that kind of bout seems the exception, not the rule.

I think you'll find Hall will be the one stopping Konnecy Bennie my friend..
Re: matthew hall v konecny for vacant ebu lm title on sep 18th
hall was terrible the last time i saw him fight, vs small.
konekny did very well vs dzinziruk, in a cracking WBO title challenge.

I agree he didn't perform against Small BUT has anyone ever looked good against Small??? Matt will beat Konnecy come the 18th! He'll stand right in front of Matt and he'll be very shocked at just how hard Matt hits..
Re: matthew hall v konecny for vacant ebu lm title on sep 18th
Hall just came forward in straight lines, Small looked scared to death but picked him off coming in.
Pryce just handed his chin on a plate to Hall, he just kept throwing and left himself open and never really recovered from the first KD. Great finish though.
I've never seen this other kid, but he sounds durable. If he has any movement and tucks up nicely he could make it interesting past the halfway mark for sure.

If hall does wat he has been doing in the gym he don't come forward in just straight lines no more can punch an seems to be gettin quicker all the time
Re: matthew hall v konecny for vacant ebu lm title on sep 18th
I like the kid, I hope he wins.

What sort of notice has Hall had for this Bomber? Was he down to box this weekend anyway? think Hall looks a bet at odds-against as Konecny doesn't look like a banger and I reckon Hall might rail-road him.

Hall is a very limited fighter who will come undone by anyone above British-level, who isn't shot. Konecny KO10.

Matt is a seriously hard trainer mate and is always in shape, He's had enough notice as he was boxing in a title fight on the following Friday anyway!! His weight is great and he's been looking great in sparring, He's not as 1 dimensional as people think, If he puts into the ring what he does in the gym then this is gonna be a great fight for Matt!! I see him stopping Konnecy inside the distance as the guy just can't go backwards and Matt refuses to as well!! hally gonna break this guy Im convinced!!

Really good oppertunity for Hall. I think he will win easy and then hope he pushes on from there. He is a top lad and a decent fighter, time will tell how good.
Re: Matthew Hall v Konecny for vacant EBU 154 title on Sept 18th
matty will win this mid to late tko, he's lookin like a new fighter in the gym very quick footed and very very fit!
Re: Matthew Hall v Konecny for vacant EBU 154 title on Sept 18th
those styles are gonna make for an absolute barnburner, given Hall's seemingley better power - he has a good chance of the upset here. At the odds though, surely Konecny is a great bet at 5/6, he has performed at a higher level, what is Hall going to do if he doesnt bomb him out early? - get broken down I reckon.
Konecny done well against Dzinziruk, whole fight is on youtube, he started too slow though.
p.s. Mooresy would have smashed Dzinziruk to pieces!
