A few simple questions and some self-indulgence

Post by Loynesy »

If I may, I'd like to offer a few observations and a few suggestions.

Firstly, I'm a simple boxing fan. No axe to grind, I've been there for some of our generation's seminal fights: 2 of the Morales v Barrera fights, 12 ODLH fights, 7 Mayweather fights (he's a tool, but he's the best fighter I've ever seen), 6 RJJ fights, more domestic cards than you could shake a stick at.

I happen to be a partner in one of the world's biggest law firms, but I never think that gives me a louder voice than anyone else. I do not hide behind any cloak of internet bravado - I'm called Loynesy on here solely because all my friends call me that, my first name is Paul, as I've often ended posts. So a few thoughts:

1. Unless I'm being fooled, there is no conspiracy here. Whenever I read a libellous post I let Ian know, his call as to what then happens. To be clear: anything libellous should be removed at once.

2. I will offer a free, impartial view on anything pertaining to boxing. I love the sport, so anyone wanting to understand the legal implications of what they may want to say can always get my time. Even Frank and his team.

3. Boxingchat - A lot of your posts are libellous sir, and you do it from the cowardice of anonymity. Your decision and I assume Frank is on board with that.

4. I'm frankly bored of that. As a pro bono act for BoxRec, I'm happy to meet Frank (and to be clear here, I do believe him to be the best promoter of boxing in Britain by far) to discuss what he sees as the differences between free speech and his own business interests.

I fail to understand why Sports Network and their people see BoxRec as their enemy.

Those briefs are greedy, mate. Used to slave around for my old boss, for pennies, and never got a thanks. Earning 500k a year 'allows him this privilege' I've since been told - wouldn't like to think guess what wage Loynsey is on. :OhYes:

I haven't got a clue about the legalities of what is or isn't libellous, but I can't understand how BoxRec can be held accountable for the views of the posters on here. Surely some sort of disclaimer stating that the views and opinions posted on here are those of individuals and are not supported by BoxRec would distance them from any libellous claims?

Excuse my naivety Loynesy :TU:

@WakeCallUp: Your right if memory serves me Sports Network went under after allegedly lost his libel action against Joe Calzaghe after the Bernard Hopkins as Calzaghe felt that Warren who had his promoter for most if not all of his 21 World title defences at Super Middlweight had withheld part of his purse and Warren got stung for around £7.2million and they went into adminstration, and I agree with SweetLikeSugar they should be disclaimer like you see on the letters on the BBC Ceefax stating that it is our views and which are independent of Boxrec as a whole and should be regarded as such.

I agree with Loynesy that should we should have a legal representative that should have a talk with us to clear the air with allegedly over what has been said in the past by our fellow contributors on this forum and like Loynesy I do not post under a cloak of anonymity as IR are my initials and Langmaid is my surname and I was born on the 25th hence my username.

if the people making the most fuss or potentially making the most fuss were on here openly and transparently, willing to answer questions like Mr Maloney or Mr Goodwin are, they could help us see the facts rather than letting us come to our own potentially wrong potentially libellous conclusions. Really its on them. They are happy to acknowledge the 'net scene as a big part of modern boxing but at the same time want no honest part of it - wrong move IMO

I once ordered a Box set of 24 off the internet too.

On other matters Paul, what can I do about a weirdo German neighbour who stands and stares in an attempt to intimidate and harrass my wife?

Try gardening naked for a few weeks, this could either stop her staring, or possibly drive her over the edge. Or hedge.

Reminds me of a neighbor we had years ago , he used to walk his dog , and stop and stare for ages at the front window or the house , , there was an alley way, next to the kitchen he would always seem to walk down it when the missis was in the kitchen and literally stare at her scaring the shit out of her, when i looked he would bugger off ,

Anyway one day I had enough , this fella well he liked his privacy he put a six foot fence all round his front garden , so armed with a pair of steps and the kids instructed to keep coming to check if there old man wanted a drink or sandwhich . I went and perched myself on top of the steps and stared , for around 2 hours over his fence , He called the police ha ha , lucky they seen the amusing side , and asked him , if he was gonna stop what he does , (apparantly , he had scared other neighbors enough they had called the police to him , ) so when they got there they knew the guy .

Copper said he thought it hilarious when they pulled up and i had a sandwhich and a coffee , looking like i was watching tele .

Did the trick , it cured him and the neighbors thought i was a hero. ha ha .

Unfortunatly David you can't do the same . they will arrest you for being a peeping tom , with her being a woman .

There was a guy who trained at York Boxing Club in the early nineties who was from Oxford or Cambridge university and was training for their annual match. He was at the law college here at the time.He was really involved in the boxing set up at his uni,and some lads told me he went on to be a high flyer in the legal world.Alex something,an Asian chap.

You're right there, Macho.

The uni I went to back in the early 90s had a 'TV room' which had Sky. I went down once to watch a James Toney fight, thinking no one would be there.

When I went there were about 10 geeks with matching T shirts on watching a f**king cartoon.

I nearly smashed the place up. It was about 1991 and I later realised it was The Simpsons so fair play to the sh1thouses, but still...
