Tyson Fury was born in 1988 at the time when Iron Mike Tyson was running amok in the Heavyweight division at the time, and at the same time Fury's father Gypsie Johnny Fury was beginning his career in the paid ranks and Tyson was born 1lb and the doctors apparently scoffed at the choice of middle name but his father said "Just give him time", and now standing 6'9 and tipping the scales usually north of 17stone 12 once hitting 19 stone 4lbs he is very hard to miss. I think he is terrific prospect but still very raw as he has had only 12 fights in the paid ranks and boxed only 50 rounds in the paid ranks.
The reason as to why he has been talked about so much over here in the UK is that as an amateur Fury knocked 26 of his 30 opponents and losing four other fights (including to Olympian David Price) on his way to the becoming the Senior ABA Super Heavyweight Champion in 2008, and on seeing that power in the paid ranks promoter Mick Hennessy signed him up on the prinicipal that he can stop them as an amateur then he will do so in the paid ranks. When you look at his record. He has been in with Lee Swaby a tough journeyman on the British scene who is a British Midlands Area champ and a former two time challenger for the British Cruiserweight title, John McDermott who has unsuccessfully challenged for the British title 3 times and beat him twice for the English title. So for a prospect with his experience he has been matched tough but it would be interesting to see how he gets on against the winner of the Sam Sexton-Derek Chisora British and Commonwealth unifaction match on the Magnificent 7 card at the LG Arena in Birmingham

Seriously, what sort of twats would the doctors have had to be to scoff at the name he'd given his dangerously premature kid? That obviously didn't happen.

I think he was kind of named after Iron Mike, so I'm sure he considers him a hero. But besides that yeah, I don't think anyone has ever really mentioned the two together.

yeah its been pointed out many times since he turned pro, i've met luke a few times including str8 after his debut and has always coem across more humble and down to earth than he does in interviews
you cant blame him and his promotional team for using the 'Tyson' name rather than Luke. It all helps with building name recognition with the general public. its easier to stand out if your name is Tyson Fury rather than, for example Paul Smith.

and I haven't yet played the kicker yet.... Apparently the Young Tyson died about 3 times because he was so small and weak. Mind you I too would have questioned the doctors reaction when they heard that one. So you cannot fault the kid's heart though, and I do agree using the Tyson middlename does help attract alot of attention so you have to give Mick Hennessy some kudos for that.

He used to be known as Tyson Fury in the ams, before Hennessy came on board.
