I usually by PPVs, even when the card or main fight is weak (some of the Khan ones, for example). But there's no way that Saturday's is a PPV worthy show. I'll be giving it a miss.

..seriously, have you ever heard of customer service, customer loyaly? sky haven't. its my opinion that they are c@nts for charging someone twice for the same product, which is boxing. please let me lend your tree that money grows from..
Man, there are all kinds of things I can't afford. I can't afford a luxury apartment near the city centre. I can't afford a new kitchen for my current one. I can't afford a new Jag. I can't afford all types of things. Other things, I could afford, like to eat out every night, but that would mean less money to spend on other things, like buying clothes, and less money to put towards that Jag I'm saving for. But that doesn't make me criticise real estate developers, car manufacturers or Ikea.

Meantime, the product is the TV channels you get for your money. What they show is up to them, and as far as I can tell, they just promise "boxing", not every single fight that bad mamma jamma might conceivably want to see. The other product is each fight, and whether you get that as part of the package or you have to pay for it is up to the fighters and promoters and is down to economic necessity as much as anything.

That said, you're right: Sky are c@nts. So why pay for it?

understand your point dude....if it was a big world title fight i can understand..but i expect to watch domestic fights as part of my sports package..i will not pay for this one..the only other one i didint pay for was hatton v laszcano which for me was not a PPV standard fight

Just about all the fights are better on paper, and almost certainly will be in the ring, than Khan-Fagan and Khan-Salita.

If you shop around you will find a VERY good streaming site that gives high quality streams. There is a charge but it is not near as much as you will pay for Sky. I cancelled my Sky subscription when I found this site and now I simply connect my computer to my tv and watch the fights in great quality. PM me for the name of the site.

paying twice for boxing is a non starter and yes carbo is right to say that i already knew that sky charged for ppv boxing but that doesnt make it either fair or right but i just felt with the magnificent 7 bill which is at best a good night of domestic boxing it was an absolute liberty take to charge for this fight and no i wont be paying for it,
also its not a matter of whether you can afford it, its about value for money and the principle of the matter , ididnt make my money by being screwed over and over for a product ive already paid for, i hope the show doesnt sell, the organisers gets stung and the whole idea of pay per view domestic boxing is put to bed before anyone else gets the idea of charging for british title fights

For a good night of Saturday entertainment I end up only paying about a tenner which is cheaper than watching it in a pub or wasting time and effort trying to find a decent stream online.

I would love all fights (especially British based) to be no extra cost but they're not likely to change after years of making tons of money by doing pay per views.

I do think what Premier has done is great, £6.99 a month for decent fights at home and abroard, like for example they're showing the Mosley-Mora fight plus most of the undercard which in the states would cost $45.
I do the same, it's normally just a good excuse to have a night out(well in) with a few mates and catch up.

Great site that, all the footy on a weekend, 3pm Saturday the lot. They usually have ALL prem games at 3pm kick off IN ENGLISH!

Oh, it is also good for boxing & MMA. They usually have SP1 & SP2 on a permanent feed which is great as I watch Soccer AM on it in bed on a Sat morning.

Great site, recommended!

Will be checking that site out. :TU:

As for ppv I agree that's it's crap having to pay extra but it's never gonna go away in boxing. UK is cheaper than other places though, think they generally pay 50 dollars in the states for ppv fights and about 50 dollars in Oz.

You may have just ruined it for yourself though. Promotors/TV people in big positions will have seen this thread and will be figuring out plans to stop that site. In future, you might want to be more discreet.

I edited my post, would whoever quoted me remove the link please.

The site has been around for a while, and they always have a back up plan. They should know about it already, and so far can't touch them

I don`t see what the complaining is all about. It`s simple really, pay the money, find a stream or don`t watch it.

People in the states pay about £35 per event. I pay for SKY, but I accept that I will pay for PPV on occassions, if it menas I get better fights.

This card for me is well worth £15. It costs me that to park my car in town for a few hours almost. We get 7 fights that I am looking forward to. I don`t see it as a "domestic card" there are three european title fights on the card for a start.

Getting some mates round, mkae a curry, they supply my beer and I buy the card. That`s a night in with my mates, watching some quality boxing all night for just £15. I can`t grumble at that.

Of course I `d prefer it to be free, but it isn`t so I can`t change that. I either pay or not, it`s my choice and no one is forcing me to pay.

Living in Norway, no pubs have even heared of boxing, so watching it out is not and option.

They do.

They pay for HBO, which gets them, depending on the package, the HBO After Dark fights and the HBO World Championship Boxing fights. Obviously then on top of that they have to pay for the HBO PPV shows.

That's my understanding, anyway.

It's worse in the US because there's several cable companies, so if you want to watch something on ESPN but you only have HBO then you either watch a stream or buy ESPN package.

We get it easy compared to them.

Yeah, there are three cable channels showing boxing, as far as I can tell: ESPN, HBO and Showtime. I'm not sure if Versus is a cable channel you have to buy, but the other three are. So to watch all the boxing, you'd have to get each one, plus buy the PPV shows that Showtime and HBO provide.

And their PPV shows are far more expensive, usually weighing in at 50 dollars. And there are far, far more of them.

Agree Im not bothering to pay £15 for this bill. It doesnt warrant being anything but free.

Satelite tv is a total rip off and always will be.

Most of you Sky owners from way back in the day will know the story i am about to describe. Different country, different company, but the same ugly pattern repeating itself.

I now live abroad where the main tv service provider is Cyfrowy Polsat, we have been subscribing to it for over 5 years now. For the full package (films and sports) we pay approx £20 per month. Everything was included in that price, just the same way it was with Sky way back when. Cyfrowy Polsat have now just introduced VOD (Video On Demand), their version of Sky Box Office where films go for approx £1.50 - £2.50. Not all of these films are the new releases, many are from a few years back, or even old classics from long ago. So, we still pay our £20 package price, but the films we now get within that price are poor. If we want the latest films, buy a film from their VOD service at an additional cost, or go without.

All the big fights are shown on their normal sports channels, UK fights, German fights, American fights, the lot gets shown. They have no such thing as PPV for sporting events, yet, but it will come. Then, we'll be expected to pay additionally for the big boxing matches, or go without. No doubt it wont be long before they start pimping football matches as PPV also, and before you know it, we'll end up with nothing of importance in our so called 'full package'.

With satelite tv companies its all about squeezing as much kudos as possible from the paying customer. Its easy to say 'you dont have to buy it' but thats an ignorant take on the situation IMO. I paid/pay for the big PPV fights in the UK but was never happy about it, i knew i was being squeezed. I did not want to miss the fights however, so i grudgingly paid for the PPV service, and will continue to, but strongly disagree with it.

You know what that sounds like to me? Business!

You know, having a TV isn't a human right or necessity to life. And having that TV show programs and things that you want certainly isn't.

The price is set at what they think the market will handle. If the price is too high for people, then not enough people will buy it, and they'll have to reduce their price, and reduce the price they pay for films and boxing matches and football, or not buy one or two of those items at all, or just go out of business.

If loads of people want it, the price goes up, in which case they're offering a popular service that people want.

People also forget the massive risks that Murdoch took with Sky and the BSB consortium took with their platform. Both companies -- especially Sky -- were losing millions of pounds a week. They were both in serious trouble.

I hate to defend Murdoch, but the bottom line is that he took a big risk with satellite TV and he was losing that risk at a great personal loss and just about managed to turn it around. Now you begrudge the profits from that? Same with fighters and promoters. The fighters take a huge risk stepping into the ring, and promoters take pretty big financial risks for the big fights (unless they have a guarantee from the TV company, in which case the TV company takes the hit). So who can blame them if they want to make as much as they can out of it?

This is true. Not only PPV, but subscription-based channels too.

I'm not against PPV in principle, but I am against it become de riguer. That's why I wrote an article against Khan-Prescott being PPV back then (in counter to one by Carbo justifying it).

However it can't be denied that, in general, subscriptions and PPV have led to a better quality of fight bills.

We all remember the good old days of boxing being on free TV, but I've followed boxing since 1990 and I can see the difference in the product even in that time frame. A typical "big fight" bill might have been one world title contest, backed up by an IC or Southern Area title fight, and a string of six-rounders.

Actually, think about Booth-Molitor last weekend. That bill would have been as good as it got in the early 90s, yet now it is considered a poor undercard.

I remember a double-bill of Galloway-Barrett and Booze-Angol. That was the first time there had ever been two "world" title fights on one show in Britain. Nowadays, two WBO title fights (one of them being for a vacant strap) on one card is far from unusual.

The first live bill I ever attended was Eubank v Malinga. The chief support was Chris Pyatt defending his Commonwealth title against a little-known African. The rest of the undercard escapes me without looking it up. Put a star of Eubank's calibre on today and the undercard would probably have at least one other "world" title fight, a British title or two, an IC title or two, and a couple of big name prospects.

This is not necessarily a pro-PPV post, just pointing out the benefits that the money brings in. It's not really comparable with Ali's movie channel example. (In that case, you can also say SBO only charges for the most recent movies, it's not like you're suddenly asked to pay for Jaws 3).
