Come on, let's be realistic. Jones would be too quick for Hagler. It would've been like Hagler/Leonard, but Roy's got more power. And if he went to the body on Hagler, that would make Marvin much too slow to keep up.
Like I said, Roy was just as fast at middle as Sugar Ray was, but with more power. It would've been entertaining, but Roy's much too strong.
The Hitman would've given Roy some problems. Roy hasn't fought anybody as rangy and as strong as Hearns. Think Forrest/Mosley.

Jones vs. Marciano-->Ditto

At Supermiddleweight Jones was very very impressive. He blew guys out, has not done that at lightheavyweight nearly as much. Jones also put up his best win at that weight. His performances against Bryant Brannon (admitably not the toughest guy, but a legit contender) Tony THorton (another legit top ten guy), James Toney (pound 4 pound top 3), Vinny Paz, etc were total one sided explosive beatings. every fight was a spectacle and not even close. It looked like the sky was the limit.
Now at lightheavyweight Jones seems to carry alot of guys the distance and rarely has a spectacular KO. BUt at supermiddleweight I would pick Jones over Tommy Hearns. Hearns only fought three times at super middleweight. His best fight was a draw with Leonard. Based on Hearns shaky chin (KOed by ordinary Barkley at middleweight, Haglar at middleweight, Leonard at welter) and Jones power at that weight I would pick Jones to win by KO. Jones was so fast (remember those 5 hooks on Brannon at one time?).
Holyfield and Marciano would have been too much for Roy. Too big, too strong. If Holy stood up to Lewis and Tyson's shots he would laugh at Jones' (especially seein how Jones seems to be loosing power as he rises in weight). Marciano hit way too hard. Though Jones would give him a good go with his fast hands and movement. Jones would lead for a while unitil Rocky's punches started breaking him down physically and mentally. Then he would get KOed.
Leonard and Jones at middleweight (as Leonard was best at welter but would have to meet Roy some where right?) would be interesting. Jones is the naturally bigger man. Hard to say, both fast, both good on their feet. Jones had more power, but Leonard was better tested in a string of tough fights against what seems like a whole wing of the hall of fame (Haglar, Hearns, Duran, Benitez) and his fighting heart and willingness to take on real challenges helps him. In a tough fight I pick Leonard. He has been there. Who knows what Jones would do in a tough fight?
Can Jones get off the floor to win?

1) Hagler by TKO in 11th
2) Leonard wins on pts
3) Jones Jr TKO's Hearns in 9th
4) Draw versus Holyfield
5) Marciano by KO 10th
Hagler would mangle Jones that's a fact, but my opinion is that Hagler was paid to lose against Leonard.Prometheus74 wrote:Come on, let's be realistic. Jones would be too quick for Hagler. You could make the same argument about thousands of fights then. It just doesnt make any sense.Grimm wrote:I say that based on the way he fought against Leonard that night.Broncano wrote:And you say that based on..?????Grimm wrote:

Following your logic, maybe Duran when saying "No mas" was also paid to lose, and Benitez not arguing with the stoppage with a few seconds left in the 15th was also paid to lose against Ray

Stop acting like a child and post something relevant to boxing! That type of insult is useless and only shows ignorance! What you said is not even a little funny!

Seriously though, I think it would have been a close one. Jones' style is very awkward & it would have been tough for Evander to get inside & bully him.

I do not think that Jones would have whupped "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler. Hagler would have been too strong for Roy.
Leonard vs Jones at middelweight??? I pick Jones BY DECISION because at this weight, Leonard was not as fast neither had the punch to put Jones down. Jones would have been too fast and strong in this one.
Jones vs Hearns at middle??? I pick Hearns by KO. Hearns hit like a mule, specially that night with Hagler. One of those shots at Jones and I see him on the canvas just like the fight with Antonio Tarver. Hearns had the range and could box too.
Jones vs Holyfield??? C'mon guys??? Does any one think that Jones could have whupped Evander at lightheavyweight??? Evander is not Reggie Johnson nor FOURTH CLASS FIGHTER LIKE Rick Frazier...Holy had more heart, more speed, and better punch and could box as good as Jones and threw punches in bunches (see the Qawi slugfest, fight #1)...Holyfield by late KO
Jones vs Marciano??? Can Jones stand the pressure of the Rock??? Could he outbox Marciano??? I do not know...One thing is for sure...Marciano is NOT A GOOFY GUY LIKE John Ruiz
Hey!!! How about Jones vs Monzon, or Jones vs Qawi, or Jones vs Spinks???

But one thing you are forgetting is that Leonard had a decent, maybe even good chin Hagler could knock Jones out with a jab.Prometheus74 wrote:Come on, let's be realistic. Hagler Jones by decision (Hagler's an all time great, but he lost to an old, blown up welterweight who hadn't fought in four years in Leonard) Jones wasn't overall as good as Leonard technically, but his hands were just as quick, and he hit a hell of a lot harder. A matter of styles here.
Hearns - Hard to pick, Hearns got chinned by the likes of Barklay, and at SM, Jones could really bang and was still lightning fast, at LH, he was never quite the full package. Jones by Decision in a tight fight.
Leonard. Close one, but at middle Leonard was a lot smaller and less physically strong, hard to pick, but I am going to go for Jones as the natural super middleweight. If it was at a weight they were both natural at, I would pick Leonard.
Marciano - Marciano late KO. Jones never came close to fighting anyone as big, powerful and dangerous as the rock. Marciano would have taken a long time to catch up to Jones, but his punches to the arms, hips, shoulders and dirty infighting would have slowed Jones down and eventually KO'd him.
Holyfield - Holyfield KO. Jones was good at LH, but Holyfield is the greatest cruiserweight ever.
PS Leonard had not a good chin, but a FANTASTIC chin, he took bombs off of Hearns at welterweight and Duran, and was only hurt late in his career at SM.

Yes and Roy Jones chin isn't worth nickles.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Hagler Jones by decision (Hagler's an all time great, but he lost to an old, blown up welterweight who hadn't fought in four years in Leonard) Jones wasn't overall as good as Leonard technically, but his hands were just as quick, and he hit a hell of a lot harder. But anyway when Hagler lost to Leonard whether he was paid off or not it was still at the twilight of his career.
