Point taken. I assume it is those wonderful 'market forces' which encourage the Arena to minimise their costs - and encourage the Promoter to go with the cheapest Arena fee, speaking in a general, non-specific sense.Spud wrote:Matthew - the security employed by the promoter at big venues is employed to look after the dressing room area, ringside and the TV area - the fee charged by the Arena normally incorporates their own security which are employed to deal with the public - so I guess in this case - blame the arena not the promoter.MatthewS wrote:Several times on here or in publications, comments have been made regarding a lack of proper security at certain shows. Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
The kid in the green t-shirt who was giving it some got sparked with one punch, brutally. He got absolutely nailed. Don't know about anyone going over a barrier, but he looked like he'd been shot and was out cold for a ocuple of minutes.

Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
It kicked off between the Welsh lads and the blues before the Enzo fight was finished - and then the fighting broke out again on a bigger scale.
I saw a security guard get knocked out by a flying bottle full of beer and I saw the bloke in the green t shirt get sparked by the railings. It was pretty brutal with 20 or so people throwing punches at any one time.
The security tried to storm in and quell the fighting but a few of them got filled in for their troubles. Nasty, and a real shame to see in my hometown.
It wasn't as intense and widespread as the McCraken v Foster brawl but it did make me think 'why is this happening again?'
Old bill should have been stationed inside the hall - they took forever to turn up and by the time they did the fighting was all over.

how "good" was that ko though? he got sparked, one punch, lights out. he'd been giving it pretty heavy to some other kid just before that too, so just deserts.

Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
Same as when I was at Fury-McDermott I. There was a bit of trouble and then some fighting (or, rather, attacking). When it was over the police turned up.TerribleTerry wrote:Old bill should have been stationed inside the hall - they took forever to turn up and by the time they did the fighting was all over.
Can't say I'm interested in going to any more boxing.
Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
Yeah, Jim Goodhall came on the mic and did his usual - calm it down, show some dignity and just as he got lamped, he said "make sure the guy in the green t-shirt is arrested"...as soon as he woke up he had 4 security guys on him.goldenears wrote:was he the one that the timekeeper was saying should definitely be arrested too?orbtastic wrote:how "good" was that ko though? he got sparked, one punch, lights out. he'd been giving it pretty heavy to some other kid just before that too, so just deserts.
There were a couple of coppers on duty but it took ages to get people up there.

Very true - if anyone deserved to get KO'ed, it was him and he went down like he had been shot, clattering the railings on the way down for good measure.orbtastic wrote:how "good" was that ko though? he got sparked, one punch, lights out. he'd been giving it pretty heavy to some other kid just before that too, so just deserts.
To add insult to injury, as he lay prostrate at everyone's feet, Mike Goodhall called for him to be arrested over the P A

Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
All of this does not surprise me at all BCFC were playing in a local derby yesterday against West Brom so the Lulus would have been tanked and sniffed up looking for trouble, bringing more shame on the City.

I didn't see anyone get thrown off the balcony mindOn a more serious note me and a friend were going to go to the Haye Harrison fight with out better halfs, but this has put me right off, keep hearing about trouble at shows lately.
A guy I know savaged by Matthew hall fans when he lost to small and his mrs punched in the face. Just cos he applauded a good fight.
Too many wankers
Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
See, this would never happen in Yorkshire or the North East. No way are we giving our beer away.TerribleTerry wrote:I saw a security guard get knocked out by a flying bottle full of beer.
Seriously though, if the chap who got sparked was giving it the big 'un, if he's intact it'll do him the world of good.

TT - have to say mate, Brum doesn't look a good place to stage big nights does it?
Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
Its not like its every show though is it? I went to McDermott - Fury II and that was noisy but fine, so was Mcdermott - Williams I. Prizefighter nights also have always been very friendly as far as I have witnessed.
yeah there can be trouble at big shows but the two HW shows I mentioned above would have seemed certainties for a bit of trouble but nothing happened.

Oh well, that's alright then.MatthewS wrote:Its not like its every show though is it?
I take your point but it seems when it kicks off there, it's pretty bad. And it's usually football arseholes (not restricted to Birmingham lads) too. I just wish they'd all f*ck off.

Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
the bigger and more 'sky' the bill is , the more chance of trouble because it attracts the lowest form of pond scum.
i would go to the prizefighters because they are small and the crowd is ok on the whole.
but when the big Audley- Williams Prizefighter bill went to the awful Excel arena the crowd went slightly downhill too....and the security were a bunch of a-holes.

Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
There is a growing problem with football hooligans attending Boxing matches. I think the fighters should try to help by not associating themselves with football teams. I know it sells tickets and that boosted a lot of Ricky Hattons ticket sales by virtue of his public support of MCFC, but most of the blokes that went to see Hatton, you wont see many of them at another fight know Ricky has packed it in.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:See, this would never happen in Yorkshire or the North East. Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
You're right mate. I don't think the fighters - esp Jocks - realise the impact. Alex Arthur pinned his Hibs colours up so immediately f*cks off half the city. Scott Harrison the same.
Kell Brook was going to at one point and I put the message across that he should leave it well alone.

Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
the lot who caused trouble last night also caused trouble at the Rogan Harrison fight at the NIA and they do seem to be following a certain fighter. Not sure what can really be done about it to be honest, if people are intent on causing trouble then they will. Maybe football hooligan orders should be applied to more sporting events, it seems to be getting easier and easier to cause problems.
There was some bad trouble at the Munroe Terrazas fight in Coventry but why they ever let a Leicester fighter headline in Coventry is beyond me

Re: Trouble at Mag 7 ?
I was in the arena and it was not a nice atmosphere when all the trouble started. Hope the security guard is ok if thats true that he was thrown over a balcony. Things like this can ruin great nights. There is no need for it, keep it at the football if you want to do shit like that, there were kids and loads of women who were just there for the boxing got caught right in the middle of it all.
If you were involved, I hope you all got what was coming to you, you deserved it.
