Mathew Hall: Well done matey- Commonwealth champ

Post by Jeff Thomas »

Touching retirement speech there, some fighter was Mathew - a top class amateur too, he never scaled quite the heights I thought he was as a pro- but he should be very proud of what he achieved;

W Rsf 4 Bradley Pryce
W Rsf 5 Taz Jones
W Rsf 6 Jason Rushton
W Rsf 8 Kerry Hope
W Rsf 3 Tony Randell

Commonwealth Champion

Well done and good luck in the future

Good luck- and if he changes his mind, there are some good fights out there still for him, I'm sure- especially if he will travel- and he always has his punchers chance. Just look at Enzo. :TU:

He was clearly a level below Konency and stopped pretty hard. He basically said that if he can't cut it at the level he thought he should be at, there is no point in continuing.

He could still have been a good contender at domestic level.

If he got more experience then he would surely have more chance at a higher level.

No, not with his style.

Hope he reconsiders as I don't feel he's took too much stick. Great lad and a relentless fighter. All the best for whatever he does :TU:

I agree. that style IMO is ok for european level but not at world level unless you as a fighter are something special. And clearly in Konecny Hall was beaten by a man who is nothing special in a global sense, he is a durable European-level fighter who showed how far below European level Hall is. IMO Hall could spend the next couple of years at British level, win the belt outright with a fair wind behind him, then pack it in a few quid better off, but if thats not what he wants to do, then thats up to him.

I said he came forward in straight lines too much.

I like him, but his style's not really suited for operators like the guy tonight - he tucked up nicely and shot back sharp, precise and hurtful counters and opened up with nice hooks at the right time. Was a joy to watch.
