Re: Carl Dilks
The stoppage was premature but to be completely honest, I don't think the outcome would have been any different if the ref let him see the round out. He might be a twat, but DeGale is a very good fighter and there is no shame in losing to him.
Hard lines Carl.

Re: Carl Dilks
Personally I thought it showed a lot of balls to come on here so soon after defeat to man up and take the heat. Maybe he'll get a shot at Groves now as I don't expect for one second that Groves and Degale will fght in December, despite what Warren is saying. It doesn't make sense to put them against each other yet.

Unlucky carl you lost to a future world champion mate there's no shame in that.
Hopefully other fighters will think your vulnerable and more opportunitys and paydays will now arrive at your door.

Degale within 8 brutal rounds....
This is an ideal match for both fighters, and will tell us a lot about DeGale.
Dilks is the underdog for sure, but it's going to take a good showing from DeGale to beat Dilks, certainly more than he has shown up until now.
I suspect DeGale will get frustrated if he can't get Dilks out of there, and then we'll see how it pans out - On saying that I expect a DeGale win, but Dilks is good enough to make DeGale work for it.
Just a wee note to those who shot when i called this fight a mismatch. I was right you were wrong.
This being said, im not trying to rub carls nose in it. I understand how he will feel today and for the next week or so. His pride will be dented but he has nothing to be ashamed off. He just isnt as good as the top boys in the division.
I hope you got a decnt payday out of it and hope to see you in again in the near future.
All the best.
A mismatch it isn't.
Degales skill set, speed, accuracy, athleticism and power, are all superior to Dilks.
Dilks couldnt put that afro bum Adamu away when he was there for the taking and Groves obliterated him in 6 rounds.
Dilks is overated on here, probably because hes a regular poster.
I wish him all the best obviously because he has shown he has got a set of cherrys but I cant see the fight being remotely close.
But like I said, All the best.

Hello John fornicating McCrirrick!gmanji wrote:Just a wee note to those who shot me down when i called this fight a mismatch. I was right you were wrong.
The referee stopped the fight far too early, yes - it looked like Degale was a league above Carl but the reason the fight lasted a round was down to complete incompetence from the referee - nothing more and nothing less.
In a two horse race, it isn't that impressive to pick the winner - you picked the olympic gold medalist in a two man contest - well done you - what a brilliant tipster! Come back when you can pick the winner of the grand national.
Re: Carl Dilks
What does that say about me? In a 2 horse race I didn't pick the winner.

Carl wouldve been out of there in the next round had the ref not of stopped it. The ref did him a favor.
You should follow a different sport as you clearly know fook all about boxing.....

maybe not on paper, but degale was always going to wipe the floor with dilks, so stop talking drivvel.jBacca wrote:On paper the fight weren't a mismatch, so am afraid you're wrong there.gmanji wrote:Just a wee note to those who shot me down when i called this fight a mismatch. Two men fought and you picked one, which the majority on here picked by the way - doesn't make you the oracle does it?
Yes, there was only going to be one winner, based on what we saw, but the reason the fight lasted a round was because of the incompetence of a referee and not because Dilks was getting battered all over the place. I know enough about boxing to have saw that much.
Re: Carl Dilks
I said the fight would be a mismatch, nothing else. I got mugged off for saying it when i was right. On that evidence it clearly was.

Re: Carl Dilks
Dilks, at the pint of the stoppage, how were you feeling, as you did not seem to complain too much about what we thought was a premature stoppage.
Re: Carl Dilks
It's unfair that you took a lot of stick for making what turned out to be a correct prediction.gmanji wrote:I said the fight would be a mismatch, nothing else. I got mugged off for saying it when i was right. On that evidence it clearly was.

The fight weren't a mismatch on paper, as you've admitted. I can't remember you being 'mugged' off either, maybe it's the way your post came across that caught you some slack (Gmanji).

One question - was the fight stopped prematurely?gmanji wrote:I said the fight would be a mismatch, nothing else. I got mugged off for saying it when i was right. On that evidence it clearly was.

Not - what was going to happen in the next few rounds because that is all conjecture and your opinion. Degale had a fantastic first round but you don't stop a fight in the first unless it is a 'Lloyd vs Barerra' scenario. Dilks is a slow starter anyway and may have come back into it, Dilks could have caught Degale with a good punch or cut him, you don't stop fights based on what may happen in the next round because anything can happen. (and has in the past)
Most people picked Degale to win, I am suprised you amongst others would come on here to boast about your prediction.

Don't feel too bad mate, he shot out of the blocks really quick, stunned you a bit and I think maybe if you had got through that first round flurry you might have settled a bit more into the fight. Due to the premaure stoppage we will never know what could have happened.
DeGale is obviously a great prospect and he was correct when he said this fight was about levels, but jeez I think Howard Foster should feel ashamed jumping in so soon.

Calm down Nostradamus, De Gale was something like 10-1 on in this fight wasn't he ?gmanji wrote:Just a wee note to those who shot me down when i called this fight a mismatch. I was right you were wrong.
And Carl don't feel bad, you just came up against what looks like an exceptional talent, a future world champ maybe. The hype and talk before the fight just got everyone sitting up and taking notice, which is exactly what the game needs.
Re: Carl Dilks
gutted, but worst was to come this morning when i opened the paper to find out that p**** degale supports my team QPR gutted

Fair enough, you called it a quick fight, and it wasgmanji wrote:Just a wee note to those who shot me down when i called this fight a mismatch. I was right you were wrong.
I didn't see it that happening to be honest, and even if the stoppage was premature, DeGale got himself into that position where the ref made the call to stop it.
That's boxing.
Re: Carl Dilks
The stoppage wasn't slightly or a little premature, it was COMPLETELY premature. The referee ruined that fight, very very poor. Degale dominated the first round and that's all I take from it. When the ref sees the tape he will feel very embarrassed. All but one of the final lot of punches landed on gloves and that one didn't have much on it. I'm sure DeGale would have went on to win it anyway but this is boxing and you have to give fighters a chance, some fighters start slow and it just looked as if Carl was taking a look early as many fighters do. Dilks wasn't given a fair chance in my opinion. Maybe he didn't complain but that means little.
Disappointed in Johnny Nelson and Jim Watt, it was obvious the ref had blown it, but they attempted to tell the viewers it was a decent stoppage even when replays clearly showed otherwise.

What did you want him to do? It's part of his job to sell the fight.bigh wrote:CARI DILKS WAT A JOKE...ALL THAT HYPE IN THE WEIGH IN AND LOOK WAT HAPPENED!
He did that and then did his best in the fight.
We cannot ask, or expect, more.
