Frankie Gavin - TKO
Frankie Gavin - TKO
Right, before i start, i really like the guy, alot of skills. But my question to everybody is, does he have the punching power to compete at the highest level? All his KO wins have been TKO's, he's not actually knocked anybody out so they are unable to get back up.
Like i said, he is impressive, just wondered what people thought

hadn't seen him in the flesh till saturday, and no, it doesn't look like he's much of a banger. but there are some serious nuances to his skills.
Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
I like Frankie alot too but i really dont think it makes a difference if its a KO or TKO, cause if the ref didnt stop the fights Gavin would probs knock his opponents out.... A perfect example of this is Current WBO Cruiserweight Champ Marco Huck hes had 23 stoppages with only 4 KOs, now hes known as a puncher because hes had 75% stoppage but the referees have stopped the fights at the right times... I dont think its the fact Gavin hasJosh1111 wrote:Right, before i start, i really like the guy, alot of skills. Gavin has some sublime skills for me, I think quite simply he is the most talented boxer in the country, lack of ko power might be a concern at world level but it never did any harm to Mayweather who has always picked people apart without blowing them away.
Worried about his skin tissue and cuts more than power issues.
I think they are the only thing that stands between Frankie and a proper world title, I genuinely think he is that talented.

Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
i think the refs stepped in before hes had the chance to legitimately KO them
Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
I'm not questioning his class, that is there for all to see, just his power.GLOBALBOX wrote:Gavin has some sublime skills for me, I think quite simply he is the most talented boxer in the country, lack of ko power might be a concern at world level but it never did any harm to Mayweather who has always picked people apart without blowing them away.

I also reckon some of his fights have maybe been stopped a little early
Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
To be honest, it's hard to stop fella's cleanly when they are trying to survive because they can't land a punch. But he's still stopping them because it's just that easy for him in there and its that one sided the ref's are probably looking at the fact the other guy has no chance of winning, yet is getting bust up.
Once he starts fighting people that are trying to beat him and are of a good standard, i think you're going to see him pick big holes and land clean shots that will force cleaner stoppages, knockdowns etc.
i think he'll be a mayweather type of puncher, not a one punch type but a punch picking until they fall apart or KD's by counters.
It makes no difference with the style and ability of Gavin that he's not a one punch knock out artist.

Spot on Dave
Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
it's this simple, They stop punching back and Frankie starts landing 5 and 6 punch combinations.. The ref has no other option but to stop it!! Frankie has power believe me guys, I've seen him clean a few touted names out in the gym and is also a serious body puncher to add to the opponents woe's...
This is the most talented kid in the country, He'll be the face of british boxing by the end of 2011...

Khan has similar issues, i can't really remember any full ko's from him, it's normally just the ref waving it off

all joking apart mr gavin is not a knock out artist but hes very fast and hits people often and any fighter will tell you if you keep getting hit fast and often it doesnt matter if the person is a banger or not after a couple of rounds with 8 ounce gloves on its starts to sting a bit! mr coldwell tells me mr gavin looked pretty damn good on sat night maybe i should try and be funtimes friend!!

Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
good luck Curtis.
Frankie is a special talent and I think a far more devlish puncher than people are stating here...to me some of his work looks nasty enough to drop fighters.

Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
Jeez, even Gavin himself after one of his fights said, and I really do quote, that he's got "average" power. He's not going to be a KO artist, so I really wouldn't be worried about his KO ratio just yet.
Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
When He gets use to the Pro tempo, He will start Banging them over.
Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
Had the ref not stopped it, the whipping body shots Gavin threw in would have.

Looking at Frankie, he's a real special talent, those body shots are very Hatton esc, i think he will be a real hand full for anyone at his weight in 18 months time.

Any footage of his fight on saturday anywhere?
Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
Speaking of Khan. Will we ever see these two get it on? They are a similar age, in fact, Frankie is older.

Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
He might not be the hardest puncher, but forces the ref to step in and stop the fights. He looks special enough to me. Remember Cleverly didn't start knocking people out until 7 fights ago, now he is on the verge of world title shot.
Re: Frankie Gavin - TKO
He's a boxer not a brawler, a TKO is more his style. He's got power but I think if/when he is fighting at world class he will be out boxing opponents and winning on points but they'll all be hurt along the way.

I will state again - no disrespect to Curtis Woodhouse - I just view Frankie Gavin as an exceptional talent.
