Is it me or does....

Post by ourkid1984 »

posters on here always seem to have an over exagerated bias towards boxers that post on here?

I only ask the question because before Saturday there seemed to be far too many people actually believing that Dilks could at least give Degale a decent fight and then what happens he gets beat pretty badly. Now I like Dilks and think he's a better boxer than it showed on Saturday but I never thought he would be close to beating DeGale.

It's similar when it comes to other boxers that are on here such as Bellew. Bomber does look powerful and a great prospect but how some people bang on about him and other boxers that are posters on this site makes them sound like they should be P4P kings!

Does anyone agree or am I just imagining it?

No I don't think so.

Nearly everyone picked Degale to beat Dilks. A lot of people (myself included) thought Dilks would give him a fight, but comparing them both before hand I don't think there was anything wrong with thinking this. Degale was a prospect with a handful of fights, Dilks was more experienced and had recently fought (and should have won) the Commomwealth title. It's not as if everyone was picking Dilks to win, was it?

Regarding Bomber, have you got any posts to back up your claim? Bomber is a good member of the community, and as a huge fan I'm made up with this, but I can't recall anyone saying he's going to be a world beater. He's a good boxer who can bang, and a few (myself included) tip him to beat Clev. I don't think this getting too carried away which you're implying.

We said Dilks - or at least I did - would give DeGale a decent fight because of where they are in their careers and as he was DeGale's biggest test to date. Not to blow smoke up his arse.

In the case of the Liverpool fighters and the likes of Martin Power and Larry, it is refreshing they at least converse with the supporters and detractors on here rather than acting like they're a class above the people who pay to see them.

Do you think Ashley Cole goes on the Chelsea FC forum and apologises to the supporters when he has a bad game, or Torres, Rooney and co? Do they heck...

Bellew to beat clev??? You really must be on something. Did you not watch clev. this weekend? Wow - Degale said after his fight with Dilks that theres a couple of levels between himself and Carl, there are alot more than a couple between clev and Bellew..

Your opinion mate, that's fine. Clev looked good, best fight of the night, but I also saw him walk forward and eat quite a few punches, which would play into Bomber's hands.

I think it happens on all boxing forums, but it's only natural in my opinion. If a boxer starts posting on a site and is personable, answers questions, gives you an insight on stuff we never normally hear about etc. then you're going to, at least in most cases, start to take an interest in the boxer. But I don't think it's people being too overly biased, just that they're wishing the fighter well and giving them positive comments. And I would much rather people be biased than to slate a fighter unnecessarily.

I really like that so many boxers come on here and share info and engage with us fans, it's one of the main reasons why I like this site more than others. That is not what I was saying.

I just feel that there has been and will be some occassions when boxers who post on this forum get prefference over boxers that don't.

There wasn't too many people thinking that Dilks would have a chance of winning but there was enough people saying stuff to suggest that he had a chance. I thought he would of put up a better show than he did but I never thought he was going to win even with the troubles that DeGale had with the weight.

As for topics to do with Bomber, sometimes I get embarressed for him because people are talking the guy up like he's already achieved world honours. The easy comparrisson his with Cleverly, I rarely see people talking him up apart from just before and after fights and even then the comments about Bomber come out and over shadow the performances of Cleverly.

Another example is how complimentary people are towards Big Larry and how uncomplimentary people are towards Fury, even though like it or not Fury has a better record against better fighters.

boxer's are the subject & when they come on they sidetrack the subject in place, because fan's love there take simple as.

you grow an affinity toward's them & try & be as respectfull toward's there feeling's as it can be a cruel humiliating sport at times.

personally i felt dilks had a good record & as boxed big fella's & look like a respectable pro, not too mention fighting at heavy as an am.
i dont have degale as a banger, but he hit's people flush & full with good accuracy which will eventually get people out of there as he did v horton who ate enough pig skin to supply dfs, & then in horton's next outing he get's volleyd by a middle in one :TU:

Some boxers here probably get more cudos in some cases as they actually post here. By the same token, a lot of them are criticised more than they would be if they didn't post here.

Yes. :TU: Seriously - Bomber reminds me of a L/Heavy Allen Green got some power, good skills, quite exciting unless he fights Andre Ward. Think he needs to fight the likes of Fry, McIntosh or Barney in his next few fights before going on to European then hopefully world class. Olubamiwo needs more fights against people who can test him, maybe if he gets a fight against someone like Rich Power and knocks him out which I think he would he could be first in line for Fury. Dilks is good at the level he has been fighting at. Paul Smith needs to step up a couple of levels if he gets a World title shot but I think he could well do that. Frankie Gavin in time should definetly be World Class. But thats just my opinion
