Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
I thought Macklin looked very one dimensional last night, and that Barker would of exploited him with his better technical skills. Macklin's opponent last night was clearly lacking fitness, and was just swinging big punches. I really hope the Barker - Macklin fight happens in December!
Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
Bored the arse off me that fight.
Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
he hasnt boxed for a year & it showed. a blessing for him barker wasnt in the ring i agree.
macklin seemed to think the show was about him in the interview. if he was warrens fighter he wouldnt be matched v barker when in world title contention.
i dont think it matterd who won to frank although he'd love to see hennessy wounded.

If Barker / Macklin does happen in December, I still think the outcome would be the same. Barker getting KO'ed late. Barker is extremely over rated and protected

Me too. Don't know whether it was because it was the seventh fight and I'd had enough, or because it was an awful fight. Not sure why that topped the bill, it should have been Cleverly as that was the interim world title fight. I know Macklin's a Brummie but he shouldn't have topped the bill in that fight.carlbcfc wrote:Bored the arse off me that fight.
Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
problem is barker's and macklin's fans have been at it for months. macklin fights a spoiler, right at the top of the bill, so he's not going to be able to showcase all his offensive skills. after all the build up and preparation, with roach and gallagher, and he ends up fighting a spoiler for a title he's won before. naturally, barker fans are going to jump on this, but they should probably hope he's going to recover alright from his injury which scuppered the main magnificent 7 fight. and wonder when or if he'll get another opportunity like the one he's just missed.
hopefully macklin can get in there with sylvester, the IBF champ who was there with sauerland, german TV, abraham, and probably supporting stablemates murat & frenkel.

I'm never a fan of bigging up the bloke who pulled out and criticising the guy who fought a stand in and won.
Not knocking Barker or suggesting he wasn't legit injured but Macklin fought, won and moves forward. Barker didn't, stands still.
You cannot advance a guy for sittting at home have a chinese.

True, but I've said from day one that Barker would win this, no matter where he's sat and what takeaway he's eating :)
Macklin won, so good luck to him...we'll save the Barker chat for when that fight is signed and sealed.....(if it ever is)

Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
I think Macklin was flat and probably due to the opponent waiting at the other side of the ring for him.
Give him a better fight and he will fight better.
Simples.

Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
Different fight it would have been for Macklin. According to Rob Palmer from ESB boxing Barker sold 1500 to 2500 tickets for the show which were returned is this bull shit? I can't see that personally thats more than many premier clubs take away with them.
Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
I think it was a combination of Macklin being a bit flat/rusty and the opponent being tough and awkward. I think we will see a different fighter and a different fight against Barker for a number of reasons. It's still 50/50 for me.
Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
Once again showing your total biasedness and lack of knowledge NOBB. Ask everyone on this thread and 99% will say Macklin is world class. You know nothing about how a fighter's mind works when an opponent pulls out or a huge fight falls through.HomeOfBritishBoxing wrote:macklin is overrated and protected if barker is!bigjack wrote:brian13 wrote:If Barker / Macklin does happen in December, I still think the outcome would be the same. , does macklin really think he is world class??????
Macklin may have been flat or just under motivated due to opponent. Who could blame him one bit if so? Barker as the unofficial top of bill or an unknown foreign kid Martin Murray beat on points(no disrespect to Martin at all)
Regardless of what title is at stake, it's a massive let down.
Regarding how stupid your post is though, you bang on about how great Barker is and he's world class etc, then criticise Macklin for knocking back a world title fight to fight Barker!
What a tit.
Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
Macklin is not world-class, he is just under that. A lot like Jamie Moore.

Did anyone else see Sebastian Sylvester in the crowd the other night? Interesting. Wee trip to Germany me thinks.

Macklin had bad flu two weeks ago, maybe that interrupted his preparations

Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
Do you not think Barker pulling out would of effected Macklin's mindset. I'm pretty sure he was zoned in on a fight with Barker and even though he was professional Jombardashvili wasn't Barker so he wouldn't of been as keyed up for that fight.DuranTheGreat wrote:I thought Macklin looked very one dimensional last night, and that Barker would of exploited him with his better technical skills. I thought Matthew did well considering all that had gone on.
Re: Macklin's lucky Barker was injured...
macklin has got respect for martin murray as he aint far behind him & knew the guy was tough he was facing. truth of the matter is the guy was draughted in & wasnt ready for more then 6rds & macklins fitness shone threw opposed to his ability.
ok he got up for a fight which had his attention, then it's blown out the water, big come down yeah. but macklin said he want's a good performance to send out a message & for the fan's etc.
maybe people are getting over excited about him chinning elcock who is gone & akin?? who was spent at middle now campaighning at super.
