what was tommys major downfall? i have watched a lot of fights of this guy and i thought he had major skills and quickness for a big man.... i guess his downfall was his chin.. but what other things could tommy have done better?

I liked Tommy too. Apart from his chin I would say his stamina was sometimes dubious and his lifestyle out of the ring probably didn't help with his training. Also he was a bit one dimensional.

Tarver wasn't the same because he gained 40 lbs for the role. Morrison wasn't the same because he fought Mercer.

"major skills"... very fast hands and had really good feet for a 230 lb man.. there is no doubt the man had a lot of talent, just some things he couldnt help, his chin being one.. it sure wasnt his heart.

Those are really talents, not skills, though.

Morrison was another example of a fighter with great talent but didn't have all the necessary skills to be great

The division could use a young Morrison now. He was no world beater and I wasn't really a fan. But he was always exciting. His fights against Williams & Hipp were epic.

..when i heard morrison was going to fight ray mercer i though there must have been something wrong with mercer..a secret injury...something that would explain morrison's managers making this match. one the face of it i thought tommy could get himself killed. when the fight started tommy fought his usual go right out and slug approach and he was doing well..but this was ray mercer and it was just a matter of time before he started his own attack and the referee damn well did look as if he was going to let morrison indeed get slaughtered or badly injured before he stepped in and stopped it..

morrison just didn't have the tools to use his bang bang approach against elite competition.

Around the time Morrison did the Rocky movie, he was a top 10 fighter. The movie put his name out there for non boxing people. I know the guys who were his trainer and manager. They said Tommy was out of control with the women. He was banging like 3 women a day, everyday. Now he has HIV, end of story and his career.

Morrison's biggest mistake was facing Ray Mercer!

He was never the same after that fight! Mercer hurt him, BADLY!

He had to face a live body at some point and if it had not been Mercer it would have been somebody else. Morrison was one of these guys who looked fantastic against lesser opponents but when he faced top level competition the wheels came off in a big way.

The problem in that fight was the referee Tony Perez, the worse ref in boxing. He almost let Ken Norton get killed by Cooney, he did not get in quick enough to keep Roy Jones from getting DQ'd against Montell Griffin. There are probably more examples of his F-ups.

Tommy had one of the worst habits I have ever seen in boxing. He repeatedly would turn sideways or even almost completely turn his back on his opponent and try to walk away to catch his breath. He did it a ton of times against Foreman and Lewis. He did it right before Mercer almost took his head off. Mercer landed a couple of minor punches and Tommy shrugged and turned sideways and walked into the corner...then almost got himself killed.

I don't understand how his trainers never fixed that.

Who was that fighter who did the same thing against Morrison? Morrison didn't hit him, to his credit, even though the guy was completely turned away from him.
