I heard he was moving up too. Witter Vs Hatton does have a good ring to it. Witter looked crap against Alexander so maybe he's retired on the quiet?

He was on my shuttle bus from the car park to the LG arena on Saturday night. He still has his stupid hair cuts

Yeah, he does seem a bit of a "nowhere man" at the moment. And for the last 10 years.

ALMOST A YEAR after snapping a cruciate ligament, Junior Witter is still limping. It is not obvious when the former world champion walks normally. But after a hectic training or running session, you can make out the slightly awkward walking style.

Does that irregular stride point to the end of the road for the 36-year-old veteran of 42 campaings? Not if he follows the lead of his friend and long-term gym-mate Johnny Nelson, according to trainer Dominic Ingle.
This is from a couple of weeks ago.

I like witter and hope he comes back,he's good enough to make decent money on the european scene and is still pretty fresh, although his style is based on reflexes,he does have a good chin so maybe could carry on for a while yet but i can't see him fighting Matthew Hatton, ricky wouldn't give him the chance or the payday.

i think all the young guys around the light welter/welter division would outhustle witter, hes not in danger of getting hurt but seems to have lost the desire and hunger needed to box. he competed at a top level throughout his career and should enjoy retirement

I hope he proves me wrong, but I think he's done.

Hennessy got him a crack at his old title inside 12 months of losing it against Devon, but he quit.

A lot of fighters would be prepared to die to win a title and I think that's what you need to compete in one of the hottest divisions in boxing.

Only he knows, but it's unlikely he's made a lot of coin from his exploits to date. If he'd have seen off Bradley and beaten Urango for his IBF strap, he could have entered the big time on HBO.

Unfortunatly Witter was disapointing as a world champion, his only fight of excitment was against Vivian Harris, all the others were pretty boring.

The big paydays have eluded him sadly which is a shame because he was just as good as some of our recent world champions who are probably far better off. He always fell at the final hurdle lost to Judah was bypassed by Hatton won the title and made a few defences but lost out to Bradley then quit agaisnt alexander which could have set up a big unification fight with Khan. Would like to see him go to America with Hennesseys backing and get some tv dates testing american prospects either at light welter or welter.

Team Witter fancy a crack at the vacant British welter title. Why not?

All could have beens and might have beens with Witter isn't it. He could have been exciting but wasn't (bar Harris fight). He could have been a good world champion but lost. He could have fought Hatton but didn't get the shot. He could have sold out Doncaster Dome but had zero personality and did zero press. End of the day he's been his own worst enemy.

it would finish soon as Witter hit him. Somewhere around round 5 I'd imagine, and that would be that. I think they should do it.

Witter aint all that and i've seen the guy in person, he's tiny. He'd get crushed at Welter in my eyes, maybe even by Matthew Hatton

'Crushed' is a bit extreme mate. Hatton does have a very good chin though - that recent knockdown was surprising.

He's got ample power and strength IMO for WW. I expect him to be back...he did after all get injured in his last fight, which I believe was genuine although it's not popular to say so on these boards.

I think the time has passed him by. Witter has looked a faded force for sometime - I think his peak was before he won the title. When he steps up his power isn't all that. Remember Vivian Harris has been stopped on countless occasions.

I have met Boxers from all walks of life through various shows and events and Witter is the only person to EVER refuse an autograph. He was riding high at the time, just after he beat Harris, and muttered something about 'a contract'. People like Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran never turned down an autograph request but this muppet did.

A friend met him recently and he was more than happy to sign now that he's not in the headlines. :OhYes:
I remember seeing him ringside at a Froch fight a couple of years back and asked him for a photo and he was happy enough to oblige, he was surprised someone wanted a pic with him as he obviously had the chip on his shoulder about being hated by all the Hatton fans. He wasn't what I would call 'friendly' though and in fact I would see this as one of his major flaws that he doesn't seem to deal with people/the general public that well, which has meant he has never realley endeared himself to people or built up a loyal fanbase that other boxers wite more outgoing personalities have.

Always got the impression that Witter is a bit of a shy type, who finds dealing with the media and public rather difficult.

I think that in many ways the long running feud with Hatton has harmed his career, too much time and energy wasted on that rather than building his own career.

He always seemed to turn in bad performances at just the wrong time too, and his style never really excited the fans.
