Sorry could someone clarify, but is it Jim Watt who invented the superb british boxing phrase of such and such "fancies the job" more.

I recall it was a phrase Watt started and than others latched on to. Similar to Big Ron Atkinsons "he's scoring goals for fun".

Watt is a great analyst perhaps less so a blow by blow man, as he tends to whine, but I do wish he was able to be more critical instead of towing the Sky line these days. Not "Bunce level" critical just a little more critical.

Personally having never EVER slagged commentators off in my life, Watt needs a new job. He is the same old stuff week in week out and far too negative. Says the basics to build up a fight that a bookmaker with little boxing knowledge could say and constantly contradicts himself.

There is still no one who comes close to Jim both in terms of articulation and reading of a fight.

Even though he had a classic bit of "spoke too soon" just before the Maccarinelli vs Frenkel KD/KO he was bang on. Frenkel was becoming increasingly less interested.

That's what I agree with the most. From the outsider looking in, no one could imagine Jim Watt was actually one hard b*stard himself. So articulate and looks so well for his age.

I think Enzo could make a decent studio guest, but not sure he would have the voice or the vocabularly to do it as a round by round.

i may have said this before but- Watt's analysis on the Macklin - Moore fight was absolutely spot-on. he called macklin's tactics as dodgy from about 2 minutes in.

he does have his good nights.

I can't stand the man when he commentates. I still have no clue how he thought Hatton won the 1st round against Branco. Branco nearly took his head off and Hatton was holding on for dear life. Plus many more awful scoring situations he's been in, make him 'unlistenable'.

i like watt, especially with darke. mccrory always struck me as perfunctory and a bit repetitive though he has a laid back presence.

the whole sky broadcast team have gone downhill, about 2 years ago. obviously they're not allowed to let the viewer think they are watching something rubbish or questionable.

next to the irish commentators on RTE or the aussies on main event, who arse lick the most uninspiring matchups, hyperventilate over the most ordinary boxing and accept the most questionable of titles (thinking of the ozzies here with their IBO dannyweight champion of the world farces) - next to all this the british commentators are dry and harsh!

i'd like to see jamie moore back on sky a a pundit, and not just to talk about the guy who stopped him and basically ended his career (rhodes) which must have been uncomfortable though i thought he came across well.

Jim Watt is a legend, we're lucky to have him. Maybe even a better commentator than he was a boxer.

Of course when you've been commentating for 20 years ( how many hours total ?? ) you're bound to repeat yourself a bit.

Just imagine if we have to put up with Jim Beam O'Nealy and Duke all the time.

Spend 5 minutes in SRL's company and you end up almost begging for more stories on his career! It's one of the best careers in boxing history and he was one of THE best.
I'd have Pelé commentating and referring to himself any day - He was THE best.

SRL has an aura about him, a real glowing presence. To the point of being weird.
