Should Frankie Gavin make a statement/plea to his fans

Post by Josh1111 »

The trouble on Saturday night was quite evidently from Frankie Gavin (BCFC) fans. They were chanting footy songs and Frankie Gavin songs all night.
As a professional boxer, should Frankie urge his fans about that sort of action or will they completely ignore it and continue to fight anyway?

It's unfair on Frankie to do that, he has to concentrate on his boxing. We've had this situation in the past , Tony Sibson had the same problem and nothing he said could change it. For me I'd like to see people banned from the fights if they have caused problems, and better security by the arenas where the big fights take place. Maybe police stationed in the arena.

Gavin and Broadhurst did make a plea of sorts in the prefight press conference, urging the respective Blues and Villa fan's to put football to the side and support all the local boxers.

It's more of a one of the problems is seating, in football fans are separated according to what team they support, that can't happen at boxing shows, not really particle, as the tickets are mostly brought online, and there's no way of checking who's supporting who.

Frankie can't be held responsible for everyone that comes to support him, all he can do is appeal for good support in the right way before he fights.

I think he was suggesting a press release rather than buying a full page ad

You can't blame Frankie for some arseholes causing trouble. If he'd been goading the crowd, then fair enough. Idiots will cause trouble if they want to, they don't need an excuse. Some years ago I went to Lords to watch Glamorgan in a cricket final. There was a mass brawl in one of the bars there when some of the Glamorgan fans started fighting each other. Turned out it was a Cardiff V Swansea thing. In the same way you couldn't blame Glamorgan for that either.

Well I didn't see it on FW's website (not to say it wasn't on it!) but it's obvioulsy not in the best interests of the promoter for one of their fighters to ask their fans to behave themselves - I wouldn't imagine it would be good for ticket sales.

Its a really tough one when people brings footie into another sport. I know a lot of Man U fans who were big Hatton supporters and they were just there for a good night and good boxing, nothing else. Can't blame Frankie, he probably doesn't even know any of them. I just think they should just stop events in Birmingham. It will serve them right.

Does location matter? I'm guessing the same trouble would have happened in Manchester, Liverpool, anywhere really. As long as the 'rival' factions are there it's always going to kick off.

you're right, they'd travel up for the day and get even more sniffed up/drunk and cause more problems on their 'away days'

All I can suggest is police inside the venue, like at football games.

It's not up to Frankie to do anything unless he personally knows them, imo.

I think the people who start the fights should be caught on tape and then prosecuted, or given whatever can be thrown at them (in a legal sense).

Isn't that like saying Millwall players should not speak out against their hooligan element unless they personally know them?!

Fact is it sounds like a this has become an issue and FG / FW need to make some kin dof announcment as there was serious public saftey issues that could well be repeated.

all frankie cares about is fighting & pussy.

the man want's to be an attraction & dont want people scared to attend show's down to drug fuelled, boozed up w ankers :!:

the trouble wasnt broadcasted thank god so the promotion wasnt harmed, but they should take heed a set up strickter policies.

the show started early so there prob was alot of children there getting treated to a late night & it's sad to think people cant behave themself's when family's are around, SCUM.

has frankie got a fansite then???

& why would he make somthing like that public unless he had to???
