Paul Smith Vs Paul David

Post by Newport Daz »

I don't mean to be overly harsh, but what's the point? Smith has prententions of being a world class boxer, so what's a fight against a 12-5 guy going to do for him? After 30 fights, Smith should surely be way beyond this level and fighting guys that frankly probably aren't as good as his sparring parteners. C'mon Smigga, surely there's better opponents out there than this? What's the delay?

I think he wants to secure the Lonsdale belt outright and then look to move up in class.

Does anyone have any news on the undercard yet? Bomber is advertised to appear on it but it's only a month after his next fight.

The record stats alone are a bit misleading. Paul David is dangerous on his day and definitely worthy of a title shot. True, he may not be world class and a win over him may not further Smith's aspirations to such, but it's a perfectly acceptable voluntary defence.

I appreciate that mate, but wouldn't he be a more appropriate opponent for Groves or Degale?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not using this as an excuse to have a pop at either Smith or David, they fight who's put in front of them. But take a look at people like Khan, Froch, Haye, Burns etc who are world champions and have had the same or less fights than Smith.

So my question is, does Smith not sell enough tickets for it to be financially viable to get a world title fight or does FW simply not have the same faith in Smith as he does some of his other boxers who are being obviously fast tracked ie the olympians?

I agree people want to see him fight a more high calibre opponent, he's had over 20 fights, and doesn't seem to be moving on.

The examples you gave are exceptions to the rule and, besides Burns, were groomed for world titles from day one. Smith may or may not ultimately move in that direction, but the point is he's never been Khan or Haye-like in terms of his perceived career trajectory.

Surely that will make it tough for you and Frankie to ever get it on? Frank doesn't like to put 2 of his fighters in the ring together. Smith vs Degale is the prime example

Josh, I believe allegedly is grooming Degale to beat Smith.

I really dont think Paul Smith is all the good.........I think Paul David could make it a hard hard night for him ...even cause a upset.I think Degale and Groves could possibly beat him now

I think david is a better opponent than mcdermott.
Like somebody said earlier he is better than his record suggests.
I'll go for a late stoppage win for smith.

FW knows he will make money off Smith through ticket sales regardless of the opponent. So makes business sense to find the lowest risk fighter available at the time to pass off as a title contender.

Paul will break David in two, Paul is better in every single department!! I expect a stoppage and Paul to look good... As for ticket sales Paul is top seller... :TU:

I don't think Warren wants to risk him losing by putting him in with better opponents and risk Paul his losing his World title shot. Paul sells tickets and will do as long as he keeps winning. If Paul loses Warren loses money. It will be a big money spinner if Smith gets a World title shot so why risk losing that.
