The Pennypacker vs. Varnson wars were the highlight of the times, though.

Roberto Duran by far my favorite one.

Re: Who Is Your Favourite Fighter Ever?
Salvador Sanchez and JCC.
Re: Who Is Your Favourite Fighter Ever?
Today is Marvin Hagler, but tomorrow could be another one. One thing for sure is Hagler is one of my all-time favorites.
Re: Who Is Your Favourite Fighter Ever?
I really liked Victor Galindez, because he looked like a fighter but he was actually more of a boxer, a clever, remarkably tough individual.

Mike Tyson!

You seem to maintain a pretty objective viewpoint in spite of your bias. I think we disagree about just how evenly matched Duran and Hearns were. My take is that the outcome of that fight was a fluke. I believe you think it would be repeated in any follow up encounters. I see Duran as capable of frustrating Tommy and slipping his punches on average and would be more likely to win than lose. And Duran does not top my list of favorites, I do however believe he had top skills and intelligence. He surely had a bad night with Hearns! lol.elmersalsa wrote:Roberto Duran by far my favorite one.![]()

Duran had an off night, yes. But Hearns was all wrong (style wise) for Duran. THe could fight at 154 ten times and Hearns would win 'em all.

This is hard for me to say, but I think it's probably George Foreman, I grew up watching him as an old guy winning the HW championship but my dad made sure to show me old footage of him as a young man obliterating guys. I was fascinated that somebody could still fight so good after so many years. He was kind of like a Beowulf type character.

Sounds like you'd appreciate Archie Moore as well, read up on his career.....

Re: Who Is Your Favourite Fighter Ever?
I admit I have seen and read a little bit about Moore (Bert Sugar can be good for some things despite many interesting opinions about him) but haven't really gone in-depth. Sometime soon I'll try to do some research on him because I find older elite fighters to be an interesting case study. I was fascinated by Daniel Zaragoza for the same reason since sub-Lightweights tend to burn out by age 30 because of inherent aging, slowing, and weight gain leading to fighting naturally bigger, stronger, younger opponents.BoxBuzz wrote:Sounds like you'd appreciate Archie Moore as well, read up on his career.....
Foreman is one of those guys I grew up with though, so he holds a pretty special place in my mind as when you're a kid the world seems a lot more grand and amazing. So aside from Big George, I hold sentimentality toward the other big stars of the early-mid 90's like Bowe, Holyfield, Tyson, De La Hoya, Chavez, Carbajal, etc.
Re: Who Is Your Favourite Fighter Ever?
I think Moore inspired George to think about taking the right path. George was wearing a black hat for a long time in his life, and he found the will to trade in his hat. Moore was a part of that I.M.H.O. Foreman should be an inspiration for anyone with an ear for a success story. He may have a temper to this day, but I'm convinced he keeps his own ear open for his better angels to get through to him. And he listens to them.
In a world where many of us a are turning a deaf ear to doing the right thing, you could do a lot worse than be inspired by and then attempt to follow George's lead.

The most exciting fighter I've ever seen and he always put entertainment first. I'd love to hear a story about the hitman not fighting someone because he needed more money, or they didn't have a name or that they needed a blood test, etc........
P.S. I hope hatton was drunk and wired when he took on that nickname. Disgraceful!
