Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
foster jr challenges kirakosyan next weekend, in manchester.
will foster jr and kirakosyan match up well? foster's pressure and kirakosyan's power...
foster jr looked very resilient vs a much bigger alex arthur in their classic fight a few years ago. foster appeared to be getting worn down but he overcame a knockdown, finished strongly with an 11th round knockdown of arthur. losing a narrow decision.
not seen much of him since then, whereas kirakosyan's won back his title hammering scott lawton.
wil kirakosyan v foster even be the fight of the night, with a non title battle between anthony crolla and andy morris on this super featherweight double header? will the winner of this one get the british title shot or the european title shot?

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
I can see Foster being stopped early. Kirakosyan is limited, but very strong and punches like a mule.
Once he catches Foster it`s goodnight Louise.

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
i can't see foster boxing on the back foot.
so you think he'll go like johanesson did?
foster did look so tough vs the far bigger and strong arthur, though. there was a steel and a determination about him, that night. i am hoping he can at least extend kirakosyan. i wonder what would happen if he could get him on the back foot...
hattons seem to want that EBU 130 belt don't they?
if foster fails does anyone reckon crolla-morris winner might get a shot? that fight doesn't eve guarantee a quick shot at the british, though no doubt there's demand to see sykes in rematches with morris & crolla.

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
The guy destroyed Johanasson (twice) and Lawton with ease.
He is on a great run at the minute and I think he will be too much for Foster. He can be hurt though, so Foster has to use the ring and throw at distance. If he gets in close and wars it out with Leva, he will be broken down badly.
I haven`t seen enough of Foster to really comment, but from what I`ve seen of the other guy, he`ll need a solid chin or some handy skills, to stand any chance.

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
never know, kirakosyan might get old.
maybe manchester pressure is his kryptonite? eg, michael gomez.
ok, foster jr doesn't heap the pressure on like prime gomez. but he showed promise and hardnes in that arthur fight, and i'm surprised he went off the radar after that.
hope we get at least one classic on saturday, from the division that brought us arthur-foster jr, gomez-arthur & kirakosyan, johanesson v gomez & corcoran, brodie-alexander, sykes-crolla & morris and of course burns-martinez.

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
I'd be surprised to see Foster win this one, but if he can fuddle his way through the first 4-5 rounds then pick up the pace during the second half he could nick it on points (that's the tactics I'd use anyway).
If I was a betting man (which I am) then my money would be going on a Kirak KO (it has).
Kirak by KO 5/6
Kirak by KO 1-6 5/2
Kirak by KO 7-12 5/2

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
Foster looked okay against Arthur, but AA was very poor. Was Foster tough or was Arthur weak at the weight? His showing against Cook leads me to the later.
Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
AA was growing out of the weight, no doubt.
on the one hand, he was massive on the night, and had a power and strength advantage over a guy who'd just moved up from featherweight.
on the other hand, he was terribly slow and sluggish.
i just have asuspicion that foster jr won't be dismissed easily.

The 5/2 for rounds 1-6 looks like a decent bet.Chambers2 wrote:I'd be surprised to see Foster win this one, but if he can fuddle his way through the first 4-5 rounds then pick up the pace during the second half he could nick it on points (that's the tactics I'd use anyway).

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
I asked the same question recently. Foster has not been too active recently and has been beaten badly before, but if he is in good shape and can be sharp from the beginning then he has a chance.

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
Why would you back him to win in rounds 1-6 and 7-12 when combined its a shorter price than you can get on him just winning via stoppage?Chambers2 wrote:I'd be surprised to see Foster win this one, but if he can fuddle his way through the first 4-5 rounds then pick up the pace during the second half he could nick it on points (that's the tactics I'd use anyway).

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
I don't see it as a foregone conclusion at all that Foster will get stopped. I think he'll win on the cards with daylight between the scores. Extremely good work-rate Steve Foster Jnr.

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
I cant see past korakosyan I know Lawton was never in his standard but he showed enough that night to suggest he can stop Foster. I'm going to say round 5.

Who said I have, I was just listing the prices, but.....Hagler2002 wrote:Why would you back him to win in rounds 1-6 and 7-12 when combined its a shorter price than you can get on him just winning via stoppage?Chambers2 wrote:I'd be surprised to see Foster win this one, but if he can fuddle his way through the first 4-5 rounds then pick up the pace during the second half he could nick it on points (that's the tactics I'd use anyway).

Kirak by KO 5/6
Kirak by KO 1-6 5/2
Kirak by KO 7-12 5/2
....my main bet has gone on rounds 1-6 and I've had a smaller covering bet on rounds 7-12
Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
I'm gona go against the grain on this one and say Foster Jnr on points. Liryakosian is good but very old at 36. Scott Lawton is not at Foster Jnr's level, Lawton was out of his class badly, I can see Foster Jnr having the skills to stay away from Kiryakosians big bombs, then take over the fight in the middle-later rounds when the 36 year old gets tired.
I seriously think Kiryakosian may be flattered by the Lawton win. I would take the 4/1 for Foster Jnr to win on poiints, if he uses his skills and boxes a clever fight this is so do-able..

Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
Kirakosyan is a fearsome proposition. I don't know if Foster Jr has what it takes to beat the guy but he definitely has something, and for that reason it's a fight I'm really looking forward to.
Martinez v Burns all over again would do nicely.

is it foster jr's style to stay away from that power?TheCobra wrote:I'm gona go against the grain on this one and say Foster Jnr on points. Liryakosian is good but very old at 36. has he/can he admopt a more box and move style?
he seems a natural come forward fighter.
i d think he'll do much better than many reckon on.
Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
I've seen Foster Jnr a couple of times recently and personally think he could outbox Kiryakosian yes. Who knows if this will happen in reality but at 4/1 on points I think it's worth small stakes.Autobarn wrote:is it foster jr's style to stay away from that power?TheCobra wrote:I'm gona go against the grain on this one and say Foster Jnr on points. Re: Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
I have penned a boxing betting preview for this fight now at my website, which can be found here, I still think Foster has the tools to get this on points if he can avoid the early bombs:

I'm hoping for a Ricky Burns type performance from Foster Jnr. Not dead sure he has it in him but age is gona catch up with Kirakosyian at some point.G0mez wrote:Foster will be as effective as an ash tray on a motorbike. Can Foster Jr beat Kirakosyan?
