Amir Khan - Car

Post by Spud »

Can anyone explain - the bloke at my corner shop had a late opening tonight and told me as I was collecting my comics that Amir Khan had a mishap with his car at the John Murray fight - f*ck me I thought nowt gets past my reliable source even when he is in the most horrible parts of North Yorkshire!!!

Apparently some naughty chap thought he would damage Khan's car - security helped out and some poor bloke got knocked over in the process !!

Can anyone clarify whether this is the truth or not??

The Amir Khan appreciation society are now all present on the thread. TonyEvs, Gomez 'Koletnik is going to KO Khan' and Autobarn... you are going to be so upset when Amir takes every round against Maidina. :TU:

i don't think khan would like it if john murray was studio pundit to his fights. though i think murray would have more class re what he'd say.

couldn't stand enzo mac when he was doing a similar thing for setanta on haye-mormeck.

khan-maidana is a good title defense.

that's about right. :OhYes:

think murray would prove a handful for amir as it goes.

whether he'd have quite enough to win is another matter.

But this happens all the time, it even happened 24hours early with Cleverley and Bomber. IMO Khan was spot on his comments as Murray although exciting (i prefer to watch him to Khan) showed how easy he is to catch and IMO a thinking / moving boxer will be able to excute a plan to beat him.
i didn't think he was easy to catch in that fight.

i keep missing all these flush head spinning, chin snapping, bend you in half kind of shots that murray takes in every fight. i must really not be looking as murray's fought some aggressive opponents who don't stop throwing and he meets them inside, like meager, buckland and kudryavtsev.

funnily enough i saw plenty of that in cleverly v murat, mitchell vs katsidis & johaneson (& commonwealth title challengers)...and khan vs gomez, limond and prescott. alex arthur vs gomez, foster jr...plenty of terrible, terrible defensive work, if i'm being honest, involving muc more hyped british fighters.

khan was recruiting for golden boy.

I agree Murray would be a handful for Amir but like you said i dont think he would have enough to beat him as Khans footwork and speed would be the difference.

Anyway shouldnt we be calling the people who scratched his car morans? it seems some are happy about it which is very sad.
I think murray would be blown out in 3 rounds by khan. For a start he seems to hardly ever fight and when he does he fights journeymen or below par fighters, put him in the ring with someone decent (if his promoter can ever get him a decent fight) and then i may revise my opinion.

kudriavtsev, buckland, thaxton, meager, mcallister & lawton were all ranked in the top 10 european rankings and murray stopped all of them.

don't see how he's been fighting journeymen.

and doing this has been enough to get him world rankings in a couple of the sanctioning bodies and even a top 10 in the ring magazine's rankings.

so murray would last just a bit longer than steffy bull?

Thaxton was shot and retired after the fight, he's fighting guys that "were" domestic names. Compare that to who khans fought recently. Murray was 1/33 odds on favourite to beat kudriavtsev that shows the level of opposition he's up against.

And sorry but the rest of the guys are non names in world boxing, who the hell has gary buckland ever fought, i like the guy but he has the punch power of a 15 year old.

Lawton was demolished by khan, a fight murray was stripped of his belt for.

Mcallister has fought 90% shite

Meager is another guy whos been beaten whenever he has been tested and can't punch.

Fighting a once top 10 EBU contenders isnt anywhere near the same as getting in the ring with the number 3 world ranked fighter and world champion from the weight class above.

Murray should be fighting top 10 world ranked opponents now.

People said how great Mitchell was and how he would trouble khan, he stepped up to the world level and got hammered.

The fact is Murrays promoter cant get him good fights so he hasnt been tested, im just waiting for the next fight to be anounced - andy murray or the likes.

No, the fact is - they were all lightweights, something you neglected from your critique.

Khan fought smaller men his whole career - John hasn't.

In one. I like Khan but the repeated references to why Murray should accept the Ortiz fight offer were a bit much. Terrible fight for Murray IMO, may be winnable down the line but would need to test the water at light-welter a few times first.

apology accepted

murray's wins at domestic and euro level were enough to get him top 10 world ranked and a WBC ELIM FIGHT

things are going in the direction you suggest he should go

murray's close to a world title shot off his own steam. breaking into the world scene is hard for everyone, traumatic even, often life and death. so FFS he and his ppl should be able to choose which path they want.

murray was nominated for a WBC final elim with daniel estrada. estrada lost a fight. let's see who is next in the rankings. maybe a hard/talented mexican. that would be good.

wonder why there aren't big names on murray's record? because he wasn't a massive investment, and he wasn't chosen to be a legend in a roomful of suits. that's why they can afford the likes of st clair, barrera, harris, arnoutis, campbell for khan and ortiz. there is also a lot more money from US TV.

it really made me cringe.

no one tells khan whom to fight, do they? at least outside of his promoter. wouldn't even go to purse bids with thaxton, with the risk of fighting on an away show.

khan questioned murray's confidence. BUT, didn't wazza say that khan and roach did not want to take the kotelnik fight. that FW really had to do some convincing.

imagine if a talented or heavy hitting welterweight called out victor ortiz. bet he wouldn't be interested, as a move up in weight would be far too dangerous for a fighter who gave up vs maidana, complaining that he was being hit too hard.

obviously, khan and ortiz ca expect fighters to come to them, to march to their tune, as the financial muscle is all on their side and they get their own way.

would shi it myself laughing if murray got the marquez-katsidis winner, the fight that khan seems to want so badly.

How about this for a novel idea: Khan, a light-welterweight, could fight Ortiz, a light-welterweight, while Murray, a lightweight, could fight the winner of the lightweight title fight between Marquez and Katsidis ... sorry, I forgot, that's not the way Golden Boy do things, can't have people from the same weight division fighting each other now, can we

it seems that no, they can't match fighters from the same weight.

i would even go for ortiz v prescott on the khan-maidana undercard. interesting sub plot with each stopped by the other's opponent. prescott seemed a bit drained at 135 and is now at 140. at least prescott is not old, like recent ortiz opponents.

I get the impression Khan is doing all this TV work while he sells the UK rights to the Maidana fight.

Difficult to see where that will end up if FW has a huge bill on the same day, particularly if there is a possible split site with WK v Chisora. I know there is a time difference to the states but around 10 hours of live boxing is pushing it even for anoraks like you and I.

I try hard to like Khan, and I know he is young but when he talks he gets everything wrong

Good point, though by Khan appearing as a pundit on the Mag 7 and Murray broadcasts I'd be surprised if the Maidana fight doesn't end up on Sky. It would be an exceptionally long PPV broadcast if, as has been suggested, Frank's 11 Dec show will be similarly stacked to Mag 7, which started at 6pm on Sky. But maybe Sky would do it as an Xmas present one-off - or maybe they would baulk at it because they would not want to set such a precedent, people would be getting far more value for money than from a usual PPV broadcast. My guess is a price in the region of £20 plus for the show, higher than the norm, but let's wait and see.

On the opponents thing, my bet is that Khan will fight the Marquez-Katsidis winner after Maidana - and win, leaving a division with discredited titleholders, much as GBP did when Hopkins beat Pavlik. That's my biggest gripe with them, they have no respect for the traditions, such as remain, of the sport, they just wave HBO's wad and make matches irrespective of the effect they might have on the longterm future of the sport. The middleweight division hasn't been the same since Pavlik-Hopkins, when the champion was beaten out of sight in a match at a higher weight, and the same could happen at lightweight if Khan were to face the Marquez-Katsidis winner.
