I am glad this thread has turned into a sensible debate.

BTW Carl, where did the poll disappear to? You seem to be editing your original post like mad, have the mods been on your back?
Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
NO, I actually tried to remove the stupid options that nobody voted for seeing as though the thread turned sensible, and in the process fcuked it up.
JDC, WTF are you on about? Many slate Khan here, I asked why. You got a problem with that?

That would explain it. Very rarely does a thread turn sensible and stay that way on Boxrec and this is no exception. There are just too many ignorant nutters around.

Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
Although it may have started light-hearted, there was a purpose to the thread, and that was to find out why there is so much negativity towards Khan on here.
JDC, awaiting your answer mate?

Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
My point is that your just stirring things up for no purpose. The thread is pointless and has very little to do with boxing. Its just celebrity nonsense, something that I try to get away from.
Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
Khan gets slagged most days on here in one thread or another. I think asking why is a legitimate thread. If you stay out of that, why are you reading it?
Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
just his personality grates me though i enjoy watching him box
Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
I haven't, just the poll and as you can see most people don't carecarlbcfc wrote:Khan gets slagged most days on here in one thread or another. I think asking why is a legitimate thread. If you stay out of that, why are you reading it?

Nearly 100 voted, result I'd say. Seems the majority support Khan here, even if we think he is a c0ck.

Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
Fair comments. I think Malignaggi is a really good boxer but one of his big avantages is his speed (Khan's even faster) & his big disavantage is his power (Khan's got a glass jaw) this was a perfectly picked fight for Khan. Kotelnik good fighter but lacks speed and power - perfectly picked fight for Khan. Barrera was a lot smaller than Khan & nowadays lacks the speed to catch him - perfectly picked fight for Khan. I seem to remember that Salita was a mandatory but he was just rubbishgizmo1 wrote:Maidana became mandatory in December (9 months ago) and a fight has already been signed. Khan only had one fight in between which was against a former champ. Not exactly something to fall out over! Some of the things he says however, can be more than irritating. He just does not do himself any favours when he opens his mouth or starts tweeting.29sek wrote:A - Is it because he picks his fights?

I actally like him, he's a quality operator but he shouts about how he's the best and he'll beat Alexander & Bradley easy when he -
A - Picks his fights
B - Had a mandatory challenger for a year
It's a bit disrespectful & irratating.
Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
So anyone without a big punch is a perfectly picked fight! Anyway, there's nothing wrong with that as long as he fights Maidana. It would be stupid of his team to pick fighters that would be bad for his style especially after such a devastating KO loss. So long as he fights Maidana and then the winner of Bradley/Alexander I don't think anyone will have a problem with picking opponents after Prescott gave him a shock. This fight picking nonsense will only come into the equation if he avoids Maidana, Bradley, Alexander and Ortiz so I think we're jumping the gun here.29sek wrote: Fair comments. Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
I like Amir Khan and was already ringing round a load of mates to organize a big group to go and watch the Maidana fight when he said it would be at the O2 in some interview. Gutted it's in f*cking vegas! If there's one thing about Khan that annoys me it's not the kid himself, it's the way Golden Boy manage him. When he says he wants to fight Bradley and Maidana and fight in London, I think he's being totally honest. It's just Golden Boy that make the easier fights and make him fight places that fans can't afford to get out to. That alienates people.
Out of the three big British fighters (Khan, Haye and Froch) Khan seems the most talented and the one most likely to see it through his big challenge. Personally I think he'll have Maidana, Bradley AND Alexander's numbers and will unify, and he's certainly on the right track in taking the Maidana fight. Brilliant. Good work. Everyone who has a go at him for being arrogant, well take all three of those aforementioned British fighters and you can level that accusation at any one of them with some justification. However, you do hear that in private they're gentleman. You don't really know. Probably most fighters through history have had their moments (they just didn't have twitter or an invasive press waiting to catch them out) and most of us have been d*ckheads through our late teens and twenties but didn't have the world watching us grow up or have fat wallets, lapdancers on their knees and the world on our knob to compound the damage. And how can you have a go at somebody for being critical of someone else's boxing ability when you spend half your life doing just that from the safety of a keyboard?
Khans alright by me.

Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
What happened to the poll which showed that the majority of us like Khan?
Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
I like him, but a lot in Bolton don’t.
Boxed with him as a kid and see him quite a lot now still seems down to earth guy.
Does a lot for charity (maybe positive marketing but still taking his time up).
Opens his gym to kids, keep fitters, schools/colleges and amateur boxers 7 days a week.
Anyone who knows boxing must know he's always had that bit more about him than the rest. The odd knockdown to come back and win the fight makes him exciting as well (except Prescott fight).
I think without a script for him to memorise before any Tv work he should steer clear.

they'd have to make sure that script didn't run beyond, say, 15 words.sy86 wrote:

Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
I like Khan. He strikes me as a very sincere individual with a hunger to take on the best. When he was hurt against Gomez and Limond he came firing back, and got back up after being flattened by Prescott.I get the impression he is the 'go in with anyone' type, which is commendable.
Some of his fans are lovely, and some of them less so...

Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
I tried to make it sensible, and fcuked it up. I will stick another in, a simple, do you, or don't you. RE-VOTE! I fcuked it up again, and it gives 2 options per answer. Just view the vote, and select the option people are using.Chambers2 wrote:What happened to the poll which showed that the majority of us like Khan?
Khan is hungry, you can see it in his eyes. I think personally he would fight anybody put in front of him, but then he does not do the matchmaking.

Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
There is a number of reasons i dont like him, if im honest the main reason is because he is a muslim. Im not anti-muslim tho, im anti-religioin so i hate alex arthur for being a christian. I feel religious boxers disrespect themselves and the sport. Why do they train for months and hire the best coaches who work there bollocks off if it is god who helped them win. Surely if there such better people for being religious surely they could just turn up and god will do the rest.
Another reason why i dont like him is he is over hyped. So far he hasn't beat any1 of great note. If he beats maidina then goes on to beat the winner of Alexander v Bradley i will give him his dues and admit he is a good fighter.

So only when a fighter unifies a whole division will you recognise them as a good fighter? Re: Why Don't You Like Khan?
I dont hate him, I just find him a bit of a ponce and thick as two short planks lately.
Sure, everyone has friends who aren't the sharpest tool in the shed, but he takes the cake.
I remember taking an afternoon off work to watch his Olympic effort and cheered him on with the rest of the nation, when he turned over to the paid ranks I was glad of another decent boxer joining the British line up.
Ive been to a couple of his fights in 2006 and cheered the lad on.
But since he withdrew from purse bids for Thaxton, claimed he sparred Murray and made him his bitch (they never shared a ring), ran over that poor chap and broke both his legs whilst doing 50+mph in a 30 zone and generally just been an utter tit I just began to find him really tedious and a waste of space.
Nowadays, I just find the whole package (team khan, his bum chums, penny pinching management and khan army) a bit of a joke and pathetic. By the time he got banged-out I was glad.
The way he dumped Oliver, dumped Warren who'd scraped him off the floor, declared he was leaving the UK cos were all racists and then starting giving it large on Tiwtter - just made me truly sick of the plank.
