Did Terry Norris DUCKED Felix "Tito" Trinidad?

Post by elmersalsa »

In the year 1996, Don King Promotions had planned a mega fight of "Terrible" Terry Norris against IBF World Welterweight Champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad for Norris WBC World Super Welterweight crown. Did he avoided Tito? It looked that he did to me. What are your thoughts of this? And, who would have won if Norris would have accept the match?

Tito would have won by TKO in 5. Too much power for Norris. I truly believed that.

If I recall correctly, the King pulled the plug on the fight because Norris opted to go to Top Rank instead of renewing his contract with King.
I don't think Norris ducked Trinidad - they even held a press conference announcing the fight.
I believe Norris would have fought Trinidad if he got the chance - he was pretty much going for the big paydays by then (hence a better contract with Top Rank).
No payday would have been bigger for Norris than a Trinidad fight.

As for the would be result, I agree Trinidad would have KO'd Norris at that point.
Norris was going fast downhill by then.

The Norris of a few years earlier would have been a different story though.
His speed/handspeed would have been very difficult for Trinidad to deal with imo.

Wasn't Norris like a mummy by the time Trinidad wanted to fight him?

I think his chin would not held up against Tito's devastating hooks and right crosses.

Tito would of won by knockout. Norris had been knocked out 4 times in his career and Trinidad only once. Tito had gotten off the floor to knock out his opponent in many fights. U cant even compare the two's careers, Norris had been beaten by many ok fighters and beaten very few elite fighters, Trinidad had beaten many elite fighters and only lost to elite fighters. I see the fight looking somewhat like Reid vs Trinidad with Norris doing some boxing early for the first few rounds possibly dropping Tito, but i see around the 5th Tito catches him with a left hook right cross combo and knocks him out

The timing was perfect for a burgeoning Trinidad in 1996, but prime-for-prime, I think Norris licks him.

I think Norris had great talent but i doubt he could of beaten Trinidad. He could outbox him but if it turned into a brawl, which it would, Tito would knock him out. Norris didn't have a good chin and neither did Tito but Tito came off the floor many of times to win by knock out and was only knocked out once compared to Norris being KO'D four times. Norris list of losses came against nobody's.

So true. Julian Jackson is a bum and can't punch.
David Reid is a legend.
Some great insight yet again lucaselrey.

no Whitaker is a legend, De La Hoya unfortunately is a legend. Julian Jackson is a fag. List me all the other so called good or elite fighters he fought and beat.

No, you have to punch hard and never suffer a KO loss, just like the great Earnie Shavers.

3hrs and a half and this is your comeback?

You call him a nobody, I say he is not.
But he did beat Sugar Ray Robinson, Tommy Hearns and Henry Armstrong by KO. Now please don't go all factual on me...

i didn't say anything about solid fighters i said good or elite fighters. and only beating two good fighters doesn't make u great. Vargas beat Wright and quartey one really solid and the other an elite fighter but Vargas himself is nothing close to great.

Oh yeah. But the punk wanted to fight the great Julio Cesar Chavez at any price to prove he was the best fighter in the world. He wanted to fight someone that had a 14-pound disadvantage, but when asked "How about a rematch with Julian Jackson at middleweight", did not say nothing....What a man!!!

Then, he wanted to fight the great Pernell Whitaker after Whitaker schooled Chavez. But did not want no part of Jackson, Gerald McClellan or the great Roy Jones, Jr. What a great fighter that Norris was. As soon Tito came into the scene? Did not wanted no part of him either.
