Ringside show on Sky Tonight

We're still finding our way with the format and everything is very much a work in progress. On the show tonight Jamie Moore and Spencer Oliver are guests with Adam Smith and Johnny Nelson presenting. Obviously we look ahead to Foster / Kirakosyan and Morris / Crolla at the weekend. There's a bit of a debate on life after boxing, a classic modern fight and round up of the weekend just gone.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's take on Boxing Monthly and more recently Boxing News. Any constructive criticism of Ringside will be taken on board and help to shape the show. Is a review a waste of time for those who might have already seen the action? If there's say, a six minute gap, would people rather see two rounds of boxing or an edit of the highlights of the fight? Are the chats too long, or not in depth enough? Would people be interested in a long sit down interview with a former great or rather see a more action dominated show?

For a 6 minute gap, I would rather see a prospect in a 2 rounds fight instead of 6 minutes of highlights

Okay, so Liam Walsh the other night had a decent learning fight - it went the distance - you could probably edit all the highlights into a two or three minute piece - the alternative - just showing one round or two rounds of a fight that goes the distance wouldn't be ideal either...

I fully understand the programme is designed to promoter Sky's boxers etc etc - but info and dicussions about non - sky boxers and other business outside of the Sky Promoters would be good.

An idea would to get me on the programme - I would provide some sterling entertainment.

I prefer the show when it concentrates on upcoming fights rather than the previous week's fights. It does a great job in building the anticipation for Friday's/Saturday's action.

I do think features on and/or interviews with boxers of the past would be good.

Also, why not have a quickfire interview with a different current boxer each week? Something similar to Soccer Am's 'I Love Football Because...'. That would give some decent exposure to fighters not as well known by the general public.

I'm not too sure about the sitting on stools business though. I notice they've done a similar thing with Revista De La Liga. What happened to nice comfy chairs and a desk? Is Big Uncle Rupert tightening his purse strings?

Was going to suggest a news roundup. Ed beat me to it by doing just that this week!

Maybe have a look at a division a week both British and World. Have Sky pundits put together a world ranking for the division.

If the fight goes ahead on 11th December thats one MEGA night of boxing.

Not sure what we can do about the stools! We're trying to make everything less formal, certainly in content and chat. Less scripted, more real.

Well balanced mix of Previews, fight clips, blast from the past (Gomez/Arthur) and one "subject of interest (Retirement)

Thought your piece was good too with news features. Your style fits in well and would like to see you more interviewing fighters etc.

HBO set the standard with their 'Legendary Nights' for fighters looking back on pivotal moments in their careers. I know you're half joking but when we had Ringside before we did a 'how to' series - Takaloo skipping, I think it was Richard Williams on the speed ball, maybe Johnny Nelson for defense.... No reason why we couldn't go through more boxing techniques. The points about being too myopic about what's on Sky have been taken on board.

It's not so relevant now because we're on air earlier on a Saturday and so can show two or more live fights but I know that most people thought showing clips to tease an undercard fight gave the game away.

We could make the whole show more like 'Soccer AM' but boxing can be quite serious at times too, it's just a case of getting the balance right. I quite liked the idea of a really quick quiz between two different boxing names each week, maybe filmed at a show - grab Tris Dixon and Dean Powell say - or one of our pundits, best of three quick obscure boxing questions. Winners move forward to another week, see who really knows the sport best.

It would be great to get DeGale and Groves on the show together - or Fury and Price, or Bellew and Cleverly etc. Might get a bit lively too though....

It might be a good idea to have the show as an audio podcast on itunes, in the same manner as the Sunday Supplement? Might not be able to use the whole show, but most would be ok for audio only if you just wanted to catch up...

Really enjoyed it Ed, the retirement debate was excellent. Vastly improved on the old format.
