Ringside show on Sky Tonight
Re: Ringside show on Sky Tonight
Thought the show was good, Looked like a meeting but was good, The more boxing we get on TV the better!! I really do believe we are on the verge of a massive next 5 to 10 years in boxing in this country!! The talent coming through is massive and I firmly believe we can have a fair few fighters doing well on the world scene!! Boxing in this country has never ben as healthy!! From Professional to amateur ranks too!!

Re: Ringside show on Sky Tonight
Can Sky show more big US fights please?
Re: Ringside show on Sky Tonight
Thought it was excellent stuff, much better than it has ever been in my book, don't know if it was my imagination but all the guys normally on it Smith,Robinson, Nelson et al all seemed much more relaxed than normal and it showed in there performance and the programme as a whole.
Great job guys keep it up

Re: Ringside show on Sky Tonight
Show was very good.
Re: Ringside show on Sky Tonight
Really enjoyed it - I particularly enjoyed the retirement segment and "Robinson's corner" (well, that's what I'm calling it) with the round up of boxing news and gossip. Yes, we get them on here possibly before, but it felt more "real" when I was hearing Ed talk about Chisora vs Klitchsko. I would like a round up covering the world scene as well - although can understand why that might not interest Sky.
Personally, I would have thought most would have viewed the Bellew vs Ajisafe and the Murray/s fights.... more fights NOT shown on the original telecast please. Would have loved to have seen the Appleby fight in full as an example. There must be load in the Sky archive that have been filmed but not shown.
That was the one thing the old ringside has thats better than this current version. We would often be treated to a little classic that was not shown on the original telecast. I remember Chris Barnett vs Gary Hibbert being shown on ringside. Whilst I liked the retirement debate, I don't think we could have enough "hot topics" to fill a 15 minute slot every week - so again, I would like to see more action of Non TV (original) fights.
That would be my request.
I thought it was a great show. I do disagree alot with what Jamie Moore said about Alex Arthur being faded after the Gomez fight. He went on to win British, Commonwealth, European and World titles and I think that Gomez fight made him.

I was also interested in the panels response to Jeff Powells stupid comments, Jamie Moore responded particularly well.

On the show tonight Jamie Moore and Spencer Oliver are guests with Adam Smith and Johnny Nelson presenting. Obviously we look ahead to Foster / Kirakosyan and Morris / Crolla at the weekend. There's a bit of a debate on life after boxing, a classic modern fight and round up of the weekend just gone.
I've enjoyed reading everyone's take on Boxing Monthly and more recently Boxing News. Any constructive criticism of Ringside will be taken on board and help to shape the show. Is a review a waste of time for those who might have already seen the action? If there's say, a six minute gap, would people rather see two rounds of boxing or an edit of the highlights of the fight? Are the chats too long, or not in depth enough? Would people be interested in a long sit down interview with a former great or rather see a more action dominated show?
If you catch it tonight let us know...
Id like more chat. But I dont like the stools and cheap ringside setting. Put em in comfy sofas. It would have been nice if the "coping with retirement " section had been given more time it was fascinating to listen to the 3 men and their contrasting experiences.

Ed I thought the show was tremendous. I'm off work today and desperate to pick up Fifa 11 but couldn't turn it off so every credit.
I liked the re run of Gomez.... in fact to be honest I liked the whole thing- can't really complain. One thing you guys absolutely should do is a proper profile of the fighter in action at the weekend. I've got some really good idea's re this, I've done some suggestions for Frank Maloney in the past and i'm doing a little bit of work for him at the moment. Likewise i'd very much be interested in putting together a few suggestions directly to the producers of the show?
Cheers Jeff

to be fair the US hasnt exactly been littered with huge mega fights or even decent known match ups in 2010 either .....HBO in particular have been a fackin disgrace.
Next fight on their schedule Nov 11th thats pretty sad, that for 2 months of the year the main US boxing channel has zero fights on. Nada zip nothing.
Dont think you can blame sky for that one.
Re: Ringside show on Sky Tonight
I agree, 2010 has been one of the worst years for boxing as far as I can remember.J wrote:King Geedorah wrote:x a gazillion. They are a bit of a joke at the mo' when it comes to US fights.leforge wrote:Can Sky show more big US fights please?

I know there are practical and financial issues but I don't want to hear that from Sky, they spunk a lot of money on Prem football and yes it does get them subscribers but people like us pay Sports premium money so we can see the boxing, we should be taken into account.
Say Khan stays unbeaten and one day takes on Bradley or Alexander, they could make it PPV if the card is strong but they can't justify this unless they've at least shown us these guys prior to the fight.
oddo fight of interest, odd fight covered, generally piss poor fair for a whole year.
Re: Ringside show on Sky Tonight
There isn't just HBO though. There has been a little tournament called the Super 6.
Re: Ringside show on Sky Tonight

Re: Ringside show on Sky Tonight
Slightly off topic (haven't seen the show yet but hope to tonight), but one of the shows which got me hooked on boxing in the early 90s was "Superfights", broadcast on sky and introduced by Al Bernstein.
Sky later did a UK style equivalent where Gary Norman or Ian Darke would show a classic brit fight and sometimes interview the boxers involved (Minter, Finnegan).
I was a huge fan of both and I am sure an update would be well recieved. If it needed a 'marketing' angle, then perhaps you could have David Haye/ Amir Khan watch the old fights with Cooper/ Honeyghan and so on?
I'm not sure if Sky sees this as ESPN classic's market.

Love that Jamie Moore was on the show, he seems such a great bloke, really decent.
+ the clip of Arthur v Gomez has made me turn on my backup device so I can grab the AVI of the fight to watch it again.

i really enjoyed the few minutes of lewis - bruno in the first programme and gomez - arthur last night.
there is loads of great british fights going back over 15 years in the sky archives. i was going to suggest if sky were stuck for content some weeks they could show a bit more of classic fights. or if ringside (in its normal form) was not on in a given week , show a full programme featuring archive action.
or even ask the public to email in the fights they would like to see featured in the archive slot.
its good having people like jamie moore and spencer oliver on the show as well as current boxers like cleverly and khan being pundits on the live shows. its good to hear different voices on the show.
thanks to ed for asking our opinions and seeking our feedback on the show.

I'm only the reporter so I've got no say over what fights are bought but the producer is willing to listen to any suggestions and very interested in feedback. Everything everyone has said is invaluable - apart from the babies comment - which I wouldn't answer without a photo.
