Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym loses WBA Super-Bantamweight title

Post by BigEars »

He was beat on points by Japanese Featherweight champion Ryol Li Lee this morning in Tokyo.
I suppose little was known about the Japanese fighter on these shores but it has to come as a major shock.
Scores were judge: Derek Milham 118-110 | judge: Pinit Prayadsab 115-113 | judge: Jean-Francois Toupin 115-114 ~
Hopefully a video of the fight will be available soon.

asian boxing expert scott mallon said it was a fair decision. i think he lives in thailand.

the japanese fighters do come out of nowhere to trouble some of the best thais.

poonsawat is GREAT in the pocket but obviously he can be outboxed, as was the case in that spirited fight with sidorenko, also.

hope he can bounce back, especially vs a more aggressive kind of fighter. perhaps he has rematch clause and can settle things, or maybe he can target nishioka-munroe winner.

israel vazquez, a great 122-pound slugger, could be outboxed. he found the right foes and went went on to have a hall of fame bound career.

poonsawat has always been one dimensional, very powerful but lacks world class boxing skills.

i don't exactly agree. he was putting big pressure on cordoba, skilful lanky southpaw. he got cut by a head butt, had to box outside, showed some really good in and out skills.

but he's only in his true element on the inside. great variety, speed and head movement in the pocket.

Is there a rematch clause?

I struggled to give Poonsawat 3 rounds, he looked v poor just wading in and Lee picked him off at will with a decent jab and sneaky right hand.

The locals here reckoned Poonsawat was paid to drop the title.

not thinking of changing your username just yet then?

i wonder if he's just a bit short for the weight.

what a shame they couldn't get the golden boy deal sorted out & showcase him on major TV dates vs guys like escalante.

i really thought this guy could have been in the same class as pongsaklek and veeraphol, with one or two minor reservations.

I haven't seen much of him until last night and thought he looked pretty useless to be honest.

Yes he looks strong and probably has a good dig, but he was made to look like a novice.

Maybe a little too short and possible a little over muscled, from what i saw.

very good inside fighter and had an entertaining fight early this year with satoshi hosono - in the pocket all night. i felt he'd go further based on his fight with lanky southpaw cordoba. he had to box outside late, as he was cut from butts, and he scraped by in a great fight.

of course, ben dunne was chinny (poonsawat stops no one early) and coming off a gruelling fight.

glad i didn't have my POONSAWAT: JUNIOR TANK t shirt printed off just yet.

poonsawat is very short, seeming to have the stature of a super flyweight more than a super bantam.
