Thats a fight I'd like to see. Was Rhodes injured? I forget what the reason was. Hopefully it will happen soon.
Rhodes V Konecy (potential)
Re: Rhodes V Konecy (potential)
bet it never happens. that fight is a potential banana skin, especially if rhodes has made inroads with the WBC.

Re: Rhodes V Konecy (potential)
what does rhodes have to do to get a title shot?
Re: Rhodes V Konecy (potential)
don't know. win another elim?
angulo seems to be out of the picture - i thought he'd get a vacant title shot - due to living in america illegally. HBO won't show any more of his fights. not to say the WBC won't keep him ranked. but while he's down surely someone else can try to jump the queue?
cintron seems not to have an opponent after (i believe) cotto decided against fighting him. think cintron is top rated with the WBC.

stylewise, Kocecny and Rhodes don't mesh nearly as well as he did with Hall, IMO, so I wouldn't expect nearly as good a fight.
Re: Rhodes V Konecy (potential)
i was expecting a great fight. i think rhodes would have had to come up with big shots just to keep the guy off.

Re: Rhodes V Konecy (potential)
i don't think so- i am not sure that Kocecny is a pressure fighter in that way, if you're implying Rhodes needs to keep him off. seems to me he's more a technically very sound front-foot counterpuncher- his strategy seems to be to soak up stuff on his guard and break down gradually with counters. he's not unlike a more-powerpunching Kotelnik.
but i'll wager with you now, he needs his man, just like Matty hall was, to be basically stationary and there for him to hit. which Rhodes is unlikely to be.
i think both these men basically natural counterpunchers and they won't provide good foils for one another.

still, konekny was able to get under dzinziruk's jab and get him in the trenches, losing a very narrow decision to one of the best southpaw boxers out there.
BTW, good to see sergey has a "name" opponent, even if it's mayorga as it'll get him on a decent stage & open up some paydays.

i think Rhodes - kocecny would have a *lot* of fencing and phoneywar type periods in it.
