The Ashes boxing card Jan 5th?

Post by Hounddawg »

I heard on the last Fox show that an Ash's boxing card will coincide with the new years Ashes test match, apparently a few commonwealth titles are on the line.

A couple of years a go i started threads about International rivalry and the concept of an Ash's card once every couple of years, it'll bring the casual fan to the sport, and if they well matched fights, gain some more fans.

Out of curiosity, what would the card look like, what divisions would they be looking at, and where would it be hosted?

Taliepai vs Taylor is an eliminator for the Ash's squad

Nice options.

Not that it would happen, but Green vs Hide.

Mate i heard it on the last Fox card, Andy Raymond was talking about it, saying it had been locked in for early January, and JNR and Taylor were fighting an Eliminater for 1 of the spots.

A collaboration of Promoters would be needed. If you think about it the concept is Flawless The Barmy Army will be in there numbers again, the England/Australia ash's test would be in full swing, attendance would be excellent, theres some decent money involved for all concerned, and maybe this is the start of Boxing teams nationally being put together in a international series held yearly. Or maybe just when the ash's are on... either way.

Love the concept, it would capture the common fans interest as well. Bring it on MO FO'S.

Not to mention PPV dollars, this would sell well in England I think.

Very well, especially if it held at the right time.

Apparently it's on Jan 5th according to the presser that Antons just posted and Medley will be headlining.

It is a very interesting concept. I hope it goes through. I can quite easily see a few of our Cruisers coming down for the Commonweath strap. However, I can't see a good quality of fighter from my side coming down. But I really hope that I am wrong.

Sorry to be pedantic, Houndawg but it's not Ash's boxing card, in fact he has nothing to do with it. It's The Ashes.

If Chisora ends up taking on Klitsckho - surely Leapai would be the first in line to get a shot at the Commonwealth heavyweight title - Sexton would be a good fight as would Matt Skelton or Martin Rogan! :box:
