IBA shows at the tavern are always well attended whenever I've been. It's much more of a piss-up with attendant boxing, put it that way.
As for the mismatches, it goes a bit like this: sell 20 tickets, get whoever they can get/afford/be bothered to find. Sell 100 tickets, you'll win every time you fight if you can get 100 tickets sold every couple of weeks. Sell 500 tickets and not only will you win every time but at some point you might fight another '500-seller' for a spurious 'title'.
last show at the Tavern i went to, the only home fighter not to win was this 40-something who looked like he only popped out to get the Radio Times and by some horrible accident ended up in a boxing ring. Game but battered.
