Ricky Burns v Andreas Evensen - 4th December-Braehead Arena
WBO super-featherweight champion Ricky Burns will make the first defence of his title against Colombian Andreas Evensen.
The 27-year-old Scot will take on the Norway-based challenger at Glasgow's Braehead Arena on December 4.
And Burns, who won the WBO belt after surviving an early knock down to end Roman Martinez's unbeaten record, is raring to go.
Burns said: "Obviously I can't wait. I like to be busy and it's all systems go until December.
"I still don't feel any different as the champion. Things went back to normal quickly.
"It's not sunk in yet but I am going to train like a challenger for this fight.
"I will have a look at my opponent on DVDs and then we will come up with a game-plan."
The 24-year-old Evensen has won 13 of his 14 contests, registering five knockouts.

How do people see this one going?
Surely he should make a successful 1st defence of his title against this guy after proving the odds wrong against Martinez?
There is usually always a good undercard in a Braehead arena bill so this should be one to look forward to. Does anyone know of any posible fights that may feature on this card?

"Braveheart" Ricky Burns defends his WBO super-featherweight title against Norway’s unknown Andreas Evensen on home soil in Glasgow on December 4.
Burns, who won the title from Puerto Rico’s Roman Martinez in a 12-round thriller just last month, gets a quick patsy and is probably due one after such a fabulous title-winning display, climbing off the floor in the first round to outpunch the previously unbeaten Martinez on the way to a unanimous decision. Evensen comes in with a No. 7 ranking from the WBO – at featherweight – and the one recognisable name on his 13-1 (5) record, good Frenchman Benoit Gaudet, is the one man to beat him, on a close eight-round decision three years ago, since when the 24-year-old Colombian-born challenger has won seven on the spin.
Evensen looks likely to stick it out with Burns for the full 12 rounds, but a good big 'un always beats a good little 'un.

He seems like a much better opponent than the Polish guy who was mentioned.

Re: Ricky Burns v Andreas Evensen - 4th December-Braehead Arena
I wouldn't say much better, but has at least fought regularly at Super Feather and is on a winning run. As I said before, I think that draw is quite a bad reflection on Zegan who has done okay (not won or anything but not looked idiotic) fighting some of the best lightweights.Horse wrote:He seems like a much better opponent than the Polish guy who was mentioned.

Anyone seen the Evensen in action - it seems acceptable. Sadly though, I have this feeling it will be along time before we see Burns again against the very best in the devision.

average 1st defence.

Its average but acceptable (I'm just going on his record). He deserves an easy on after playing the waiting game also - be interesting to see the direction he has after. 18 months down the road - Burns vs Steven Smith?hitman_hatton1 wrote:average 1st defence.

A much better draw than Matt Zegan, still not sure why they are pursuing fighters who are not ranked at Super Feather though, according to Eversen's record he has been fighting recently at feather weight. Still should come through this unscathed and then a better opponent next year.
