Re: Murray vacates – Rees-Watson November 6
as long as his next fight is of a better standard than these two ive no prob... but if he fights a patsy then it sucks somewhat as Rees would have been murrays biggest test by far
Re: Murray vacates – Rees-Watson November 6
Rees is probably second best to Murray in Uk. I favour him to beat Mitchell who is vastly overrated by many!

Have you learnt that uppercut that Big Frank was showing you ?
Re: Murray vacates – Rees-Watson November 6
Liverpool’s John Watson takes a big step up when he takes on former world champion Gavin Rees for the vacant British lightweight title in Newport next month (November 6).
Watson turned pro just three years ago and has toed the line just 13 times but he was an excellent amateur who won the ABA light-welterweight title in 2004 and sparred regularly with Amir Khan. Quick and flashy, the unbeaten Watson certainly knows how to move and box.
He needs to against the strong, immensely seasoned Rees, who turned pro in 1998 and whose only defeat since came at the hands of world class Ukrainian light-welterweight Andreas Kotelnik two years ago. The man known as "The Rock" was stopped in 12 rounds but bounced back in style last year, romping to first prize in Prizefighter with wins over Ted Bami, Jason Cook and Colin Lynes, before dropping down to lightweight this year, where Rees has won his last two.
Watson’s own journey is less exciting but the rangy 27-year-old secured his shot by outscoring Walsall puncher Martin Gethin over 10 rounds last year, surviving a rocky final minute to do so. The Huyton stylist boxed very well indeed, but Rees also knows how to box, how to get a good jab off. The short Welshman mixed it up superbly against tall Frenchman Souleymane MBaye to capture the WBA light-welterweight title on a mild night in Cardiff in 2007, taking a wide decision. Then came the Kotelnik defeat, which cost him the belt, but Rees fought well up to the stoppage. He is not finished yet at 30, not ready to be taken.
Watson reminds me of Liverpool’s 9-0 Steve Williams prior to his crack at Lenny Daws for the British light-welterweight title earlier this year – talented but inexperienced. The gutsy Williams was pulled out against Daws after 10 rounds and I can see much the same happening in this one.
Rees, on his own Welsh soil, looks too much.
