Is the Haye/Harrison fight anyones first live show?(stories)
Ive been to lots of fights in my time but never ventured outside the UK. My first live show was John westgarth vs Dave Garside way back in the mid 80's at the Mayfair in Newcastle. I got to this show free as I went with John Rushton (manager from Doncaster) and a heavyweight called Mick Cawden, who was supposed to be on the bill, however when we got there his fight was cancelled for some reason. I remember this fight was it was a small hall bill but the atmosphere was great. I soon moved onto watching George Foreman in London and this was my first 'big' show and it was electric, this was back in the day when you could freely walk around and get autographs. Also on the bill was Sean Murphy,Colin McMillan and Mark Tibbs to mention a few (incidentally, Boy George's brother Gerry made his debut but lost on points, his only pro fight, went on to murder his wife).
After that i was hooked on the live show experiance, saw Eubanks on lots of occasions. The night against Wharton was just fantastic. Saw Hamed against Ingle with Thomas Hearns on the bill also.
Anyway, back to the thread. Is this anyones first live show? and is anyone excited about the prospect of what is going to happen. For me i'm getting the feeling like I did when it was Nigel Benn vs Michael Watson, thinking that Benn was going to do a number on the lesser known middleweight. (when i say lesser known this was meant that Watson did not have much media coverage) I'm getting very excited at the prospect that Haye will kick the shite out of Harrison in less than 2 or 3 rounds, however, I do get the feeling that there might be a twist, and this is why i'm getting very excited about this show.

My first pro show was Henry Wharton's pro debut in Harrogate in 1989.Have obviously been to most of his throught his career.Been to loads more small hall shows in the Yorkshire region, seeing the likes of Paul Ingle,Ryan Rhodes,Crawford Ashley and countless names most will have forgotton.Have attended a good few "events" recently including Hatton-Tszyu/Massua/Lazcano,Woods-Johnson,Calzaghe-Lacy/Kessler and a good few Khan nights.Biggest let down was the cancellation of Haye-Klitschko/Hobson,the latter i still attended with about 200 others.Calmed it down recently except following our very own tijuana1 on his travels.Like ams as well.

I have been to a good few fights in the last 2 years or so but this one is getting the juices flowing unlike any of the others, and like the original poster i think there will be some drama on the night.Every press conference that passes i'm beginning to dislike haye more and more and find myself wanting harrison to ko him.

I was there that night filming the show for Mickey Duff, Michael Gale also made his debut against Dave Lawrence from norwich, I asked him before he went on if he wanted his video, he said, I go down early, no point!!!.mickey1975 wrote:My first pro show was Henry Wharton's pro debut in Harrogate in 1989.Have obviously been to most of his throught his career.Been to loads more small hall shows in the Yorkshire region, seeing the likes of Paul Ingle,Ryan Rhodes,Crawford Ashley and countless names most will have forgotton.Have attended a good few "events" recently including Hatton-Tszyu/Massua/Lazcano,Woods-Johnson,Calzaghe-Lacy/Kessler and a good few Khan nights.Biggest let down was the cancellation of Haye-Klitschko/Hobson,the latter i still attended with about 200 others.Calmed it down recently except following our very own tijuana1 on his travels.Like ams as well.

Do you think Henry Wharton (I mean now) would be a handful for Fury on the cobbles? I'm not joking.mickey1975 wrote:My first pro show was Henry Wharton's pro debut in Harrogate in 1989.Have obviously been to most of his throught his career.Been to loads more small hall shows in the Yorkshire region, seeing the likes of Paul Ingle,Ryan Rhodes,Crawford Ashley and countless names most will have forgotton.Have attended a good few "events" recently including Hatton-Tszyu/Massua/Lazcano,Woods-Johnson,Calzaghe-Lacy/Kessler and a good few Khan nights.Biggest let down was the cancellation of Haye-Klitschko/Hobson,the latter i still attended with about 200 others.Calmed it down recently except following our very own tijuana1 on his travels.Like ams as well.

I also watched Gale box his first show at Leeds Town hall without Henry shifting all the tickets. He won a thriller controversially against Eubank's cousin Bobbi-Joe Edwards. When Gale challenged for the Commonwealth at the same place, they soon put Henry in a non title 8 rounder on the undercard.I used to see Gale attending a born again church above Hunslet Boys Club in Leeds years after he packed in.ERIC GUY wrote:I was there that night filming the show for Mickey Duff, Michael Gale also made his debut against Dave Lawrence from norwich, I asked him before he went on if he wanted his video, he said, I go down early, no point!!!.mickey1975 wrote:My first pro show was Henry Wharton's pro debut in Harrogate in 1989.Have obviously been to most of his throught his career.Been to loads more small hall shows in the Yorkshire region, seeing the likes of Paul Ingle,Ryan Rhodes,Crawford Ashley and countless names most will have forgotton.Have attended a good few "events" recently including Hatton-Tszyu/Massua/Lazcano,Woods-Johnson,Calzaghe-Lacy/Kessler and a good few Khan nights.Biggest let down was the cancellation of Haye-Klitschko/Hobson,the latter i still attended with about 200 others.Calmed it down recently except following our very own tijuana1 on his travels.Like ams as well.

Not going to this fight but did go and see Haye vs Enzo (I was cheering on Haye)
1st fight was Bruno vs Lewis - fantastic night in the Arms Park. 17 or 18 at the time and a huge Lennox supporter. Gutted though that it was Frank nailed with that left hook.

My first show was McGuigen v Pedroza at Loftus road, took me awhile to get along to a live show, but that was one I couldn't refuse, just down the road as well. What a night it was, even on the tube there, everyone was talking about it, even those not going - mums, dads kids etc. I think Barry's fights had been on both ITV and BBC in the lead up, so he was a national celebrity already. That was a helluva first fight to go to, so it was always going to be down hill from there.
Benn/Logan at the Albert hall was fantastic. Honeyghan v Hatcher at an open air bull ring in Marbella, lasted 40 seconds. My shocked non boxing fan mate turned to me and said " is that it ?"....I had to reply that I didn't think Gene would be getting up anytime soon.

My first show was Woods - Johnson 2, never forget this as it had Carl Thompson KO'ing Rothman (BANG), oh and a young David Haye pottering round at ringside.

I had to explain this to my girlfriend when Hatton got sparked out against Pacquaio. She'd slept through the undercard etc, and I woke her for the fight. "Is that it?" she said. And just like Gene, I couldn't see Ricky beating the count that time.MightyWarrior wrote:Honeyghan v Hatcher at an open air bull ring in Marbella, lasted 40 seconds.
