Morrison KO’s Williams In 1

Former WBO heavyweight boxing champion Tommy Morrison knocked out the overmatched Corey Williams inside a round in Laramie, Wyoming on Saturday night.

As small crowd at the Albany Fair Grounds saw Morrison flatten Williams with a left and right hand combination.

Morrison, who won the vacant WBO heavyweight title against George Foreman in June, 1993, has suffered problems resuming his career in recent years due to insufficient clarity concerning his HIV and Hepatitis C medical requirements.

The American Association of Professional Ringside Physicians sent out the following press statement regarding Tommy Morrison’s medical status on January 29, 2009, two days before the fight.

"The American Association of Professional Ringside Physicians (AAPRP) is strongly recommending that that proposed contest between Mr. Tommy Morrison and Mr. Corey Williams (scheduled for this Saturday at the Albany Fair Grounds, Laramie, Wyoming) be postponed.

As referenced in multiple reports over the past twelve years, Mr. Morrison has not been able to document negative HIV status thereby not meeting the minimum medical requirements to insure the safety and protection of himself, his opponent or ring officials. As such, the AAPRP is concerned about the potential of transmission of infectious diseases should bleeding occur.

Currently, the State of Wyoming does not have a boxing commission. Thus, we recommend that this fight be canceled until such time as an appropriate supervisory commission is appointed to oversee the medical aspects of this contest and blood tests are performed by an AAPRP approved physician to document the health status of each competitor.

Should this contest take place without proper regulatory oversight and experienced medical personnel, we believe there is a possibility that the health and safety of the competitors and ring officials may be compromised; an unnecessary risk which should not be permitted."

Looks like an exhibition.
The bout was held in a State without a Commission and not sanctioned by the ABC.
Corey Williams (4-9-2) had not fought in over 2 years so the result was assured.
I seriously doubt any bonafide ring official took part.

Yeah, I believe this changed to an exhibition at the last moment.

I thought kicks were even allowed...
