[2010] What are the remaining Olympic Qualifiers?
Re: [2010] What are the remaining Olympic Qualifiers?
Natl Golden Gloves, Armed Services Championships, U.S. Championships & last chance qualifier. This is tentative since it must get USOC approval.
Re: [2010] What are the remaining Olympic Qualifiers?
Tentative: Champions from PAL, Armed Services, Golden Gloves, Eastern and Western Trials (Eastern for east of the Mississippi and Western for west of the Mississippi and if you lose in Eastern you won't be able to compete in Western and vice versa), gold and silver medalists from the U.S. Championships and champion from a "last chance" tournament. As Dennis said, must present to USOC for approval.

So, how is the WSB going to affect this? Let's say Raushee wins the WSB but doesn't compete in the trials or loses the trials. WSB champ goes straight to OLympics and delcares country/weight. We can't have two boxers on the Olympic Team at the same weight can we? No one is answering this question, yet.boxmel wrote:Tentative: Champions from PAL, Armed Services, Golden Gloves, Eastern and Western Trials (Eastern for east of the Mississippi and Western for west of the Mississippi and if you lose in Eastern you won't be able to compete in Western and vice versa), gold and silver medalists from the U.S. Championships and champion from a "last chance" tournament. Ok so if the qualifiers are pal, gg's, 4 from usa's, military, and last chance tourn, what happens if sombody wins more than one. What happens with the pal winner? does he advance to the usa's? If so, wouldnt it be a little unfair that he gets to eliminate people before they reach the semi finals? Sombody said that the pal winner wont be allowed to compete in the usa's, but that doesnt make sense either. :??
Re: [2010] What are the remaining Olympic Qualifiers?
I don't think you can keep them out of the U.S. Chp, but your point about eliminating people is well taken. The qualifiers should be PAL, NGG, US CHP, Military, Eastern Trials, Western Trials, and Midwestern Trials with the top 2 from US Chp. The champs from the PAL, NGG, US Chp and Military would not be permitted to enter the 3 Trials tournaments which seems a lot more fair to all boxers.T Duquette wrote:Ok so if the qualifiers are pal, gg's, 4 from usa's, military, and last chance tourn, what happens if sombody wins more than one. Re: [2010] What are the remaining Olympic Qualifiers?
I guess I get it, but why would you not permit a NGG/PAL/USA/Military champion from competing and facing his/her potential competition in the box offs at one of the trials? I keep hearing they are only doing East/Western trials, unless the IOC is paying, I'm not sure where the money is going to come from for all three or even two at that matter. USAB memo says they aren't doing any trials and taking top 4 from USA along with last chance summer tourney (Ringside to have two tournaments like they did w/ Under-19? May be too close to box offs).Dennis wrote:I don't think you can keep them out of the U.S. Chp, but your point about eliminating people is well taken. I understand that a boxer can only take one slot, but why can't the 2nd place boxer take the forfitted slot? If a boxer wins the PAL and NGG, they must declare which slot they are taking and may actually get to basically pick who they want to potentially eliminate (both #2s in each) from the boxoffs. I wonder when they actually have to declare? Right before the boxoffs? So, they could wait until right before the boxoffs and say I don't want the #2 from the NGGs to go and he/she hasn't qualified yet, so I'm going to the boxoffs as the NGG champion. Am I making sense? I really wish that all of this would be spelled out.
USAB didn't officially release the age determination for the PALs until the tournament started. It was actually 16 years and 1 month. (Must be 17 by Sept 16th 2011) but I'm not sure how many other boxers may have gone in as Open boxers instead of Juniors like Simms if they actually knew for sure.
If we want our best boxers involved in this process, we all have to be brought up to date on what the rules are. It's just not clear and we've already started the process. Not good.
Re: [2010] What are the remaining Olympic Qualifiers?
I talked to Joe Zanders last night. What will be proposed to the USOC as qualifiers to the Trials is what I posted earlier: Champions from PAL, Armed Services, Golden Gloves, Eastern and Western Trials and a "last chance" tournament. Gold and silver medalists from the US Championships. I know the USAB web site says the top 4 from the US Championships but Joe says that isn't correct.
To make this very simple - Louie Byrd wins the PAL. He also wins any other advancing tournament. He will have to pick what team he advances to the Trials on. If he doesn't pick PAL, the silver medalist will move up in his place.
The Eastern, Western and last chance tournaments (and the US Championships if not at the OTC) will be put out to bid. This means someone else is responsible for housing, transportation, venue, support, i.e. those monies will not be paid out by USAB. IOC has nothing to do with any National Governing Body.I keep hearing they are only doing East/Western trials, unless the IOC is paying, I'm not sure where the money is going to come from for all three or even two at that matter.

one last question. Will boxers that lose in the eastern be prohibited from entering the western trials?boxmel wrote:I talked to Joe Zanders last night. I have a question, not sure anyone could answer but ... Marco Rangel places second in the USA's or wins Golden Gloves, then does the PAL pick Vasquez or Carlton? I mean are they gonna keep passing the bid down until someone accepts?boxmel wrote:I talked to Joe Zanders last night.
