Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
That one was the biggest disgrace heavyweight the Cameroon guy got it on a countback his opponent must of thrown about 30 bodypunches that didn't count! Are they trying to ruin it?
Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
No, it just seems to come naturally to them. Body shots are hardly ever counted from what I see.yid14 wrote:Are they trying to ruin it?

It sounds bad but I'm just glad the decision didn't go against an englishman! Talking ofwhich our boy looked pretty impressive there.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:No, it just seems to come naturally to them. Body shots are hardly ever counted from what I see.yid14 wrote:Are they trying to ruin it?

They are five hours ahead. So count back five hours and then forward 15 minutes for every bout.
I managed to do it for our site so I am sure a smart gent like you can figure it out
Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Strangely enough, I was on that very site and went through Schedules, boxing and just got general info.
Thanks for the link.

Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Been watching the quarters and the semi's are tomorrow few guys who are decent, however, my "good things" for what its worth for the golds in a few of the divisions
Flyweight - Suranjoy Mayengbam Singh (India)
Bantamweight - Bruno Julie (Mauritius)
Heavyweight - Simon Vailliy (England)
Some great chances for the home nations in lots of the divisions and young Callum Smith did great in getting a medal and has every chance of going all the way - its a very hard division though and his semi opponent is very strong but he can be outboxed but just keeping fingers crossed on this for Smithy.
Looking forward to seeing the Bahamas guy in the light-welter division again he looked sensational in his quarter final winning 28-2 but the opponent was very weak but he seemed to have everything, however, no one seemed to know anything about him so it might just have been the opponent making him look Rigondeaux like. He has the Indian favourite in the semi's though so guess in 24 hours we will know how good the Bahamas kid is.

Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
I was so impressed with Josh Taylor from the Scotland squad, he boxed excellently and showed real promise, he could box on the outside inside, counter, lead he really had it all and boxed superbly
Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
He looked good Alex, he will win his semi but Stalker or Bhagwan in the final will be tough for him but not impossible. He looks promising thoughalexpaterson wrote:I was so impressed with Josh Taylor from the Scotland squad, he boxed excellently and showed real promise, he could box on the outside inside, counter, lead he really had it all and boxed superbly

Stalker will beat Bhagwan I beat him twice in the amateurs very comfortable both times he struggles with southpaw moversGLOBALBOX wrote:He looked good Alex, he will win his semi but Stalker or Bhagwan in the final will be tough for him but not impossible. Stalker should win, he's the better boxer, but there's always the chance of a home-town decision, such is the sport.Frankie Gavin wrote:Stalker will beat Bhagwan I beat him twice in the amateurs very comfortable both times he struggles with southpaw moversGLOBALBOX wrote:He looked good Alex, he will win his semi but Stalker or Bhagwan in the final will be tough for him but not impossible. Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Paddy Barnes through to the final - he beat the indian kid comfortably 5-0 i think it was, tight guard picked the odd punch job done, faces the defending champ in the final Uutoni from Namibia, he is rangy and crude but very effective, think Paddy wins it but its not an easy fight.
Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Huge upset in the Bantamweight division red hot favourite and Olympic Bronze Medallist Bruno Julie has been beaten by young Sean McGoldrick from Wales, kid was super, he just did not lead and left the counter punching Julie all at sea - only won 2-1 though but still did brilliant, described as the upset of the games so far. Faces a decent Sri Lankan in the final who has a very good right hand but he has the style to go close now.
Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Stalker 6-5 up against the Indian with 1 round to go - Come on Tom!!
Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Stalker won 10-5 to make the Final. Stalker had 2 pts taken off for low blows and I thought he we go and then the Indian lad had 4 pts taken off for two lots of vegetable shots.
Still another in the final - good boy Tommy!!

Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
2nd Semi at Lightweight - winner fights Stalker
Josh Taylor (Scotland) v Moala (Tonga)
Taylor had the better of the first round but 0-0 at the end of round

Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
1-0 Taylor at the end of the second - tempting fate but he seems to have it under-control. 1 round away from an England V Scotland final

Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Callum Smith now in the ring facing the roughhouse Bahamas guy - should be a good fight - welter semi final
Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Smith in control but its 0-0 at end of the first - Callum should be 4-0 up at least - The Bahamas guy not able to a throw many as being peppered his defence is ok but Callum has got thorugh with enough to be in a decent lead.
Re: Boxing at the Commonwealth Games
Smith 2-1 up at the end of the second - boxing well behind the jab - should be about 7-2 up by my reckoning - come on Smithy!!
