Lord knows that our sport needs something. Why not give it try?

I agree. There is still a shred of dignity in the sport --- what are we waiting for? It's time to torch the fvcker...Image

Keith could use a partner for posting. A rock would have shot down this thread idea during a consultation. At the very least, directed him to the proper forum.

Reforms in Boxing are difficult enough without suggesting a trip into a time machine to revise the past.

Instead of a 10 count, you have to pin your opponent, then celebrate dramatically on the top turn-buckle while you theme tune blares out.

....or you could just watch WWE!

Instead of 2 boxers per team it's boxer + celebrity

OR even better boxer + boxrec member

I've often imagined this concept in my head to be honest. But really it would just be ridiculous and it would take away any credibility that the sport still has. I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't watch at least once or twice though just for the hell of it.

Have any of you non-Brits seen the Prizefighter tournaments that have been happening in the UK recently? Perhaps you've got the exact same formats in your countries, I've no idea. Been a great success though and offer something different.

The basic format is that you get eight domestic fighters in a tournament and the entire tournament takes place in one night. Fights last three rounds and in a quarter-final/semi-final/final format. They've done it at most weights in the UK. Of course the really big names in the division don't participate, it's usually the domestic and area champions or upcomers that are involved however they've been very popular both on TV and with live gates. Primarily because it's a new formate and also because the short fights pretty much guarantee action because the fighters don't have to pace themselves.

I could see it being a success in the USA, where local fighting needs a significant boost. Each state could host the own tournament, for example, with the winners then heading into a winners-tournament.
