Re: Eastside boxing
Getting back to the original post, I think this thread is very interesting and balanced with lots of contrasting opinions. That's why I'm more of a fan of this site than Eastside. Personally I think constructive criticism is great. Calling someone names is just a bit pathetic isn't it? It's all very well saying that you can just scroll through the more childish comments but they tend to be the ones that stick in your mind.
If I can answer a couple of posts directly, namely BIGMARK, LeedsLad and Rob Palmer - Thanks for the feedback. Any suggestions or observations are always much appreciated. Editing takes much, much longer than many would imagine so there is a lot of work that goes into the shows. It's ironic that the couple of debates that we've done on Ringside seem to have been so popular because they are actually very easy to produce. It's much more time consuming to spend a day directing a cameraman with Sam Webb, a day with Martin Concepcion in Leicester then a day looking through all your tapes and logging them, digging old fights out the library, writing scripts and then sitting in an edit suite for hours. All to make a few minutes of TV. That's my job in the week and it's wonderful but I am just an employee. I don't take personal offense if someone has a pop at the company I work for or feels frustrated that a big fight isn't signed. At the same time though, I don't have any say in what fights are bought and if I do know some gossip then I'm not in a position to say anything about it. So Rob, the comments about Sky coverage aren't what offends me. There is a real community in boxing, full of great characters - boxers, trainers, journalists, fans.... It's one of the things that I love most about my job, I feel this website reflects that. Eastside for me does not. I've occasionally seen something that I consider offensive, then looked through all that posters previous efforts and not seen them ever say one positive thing about anyone or anything. How can someone be a fan of the sport, talking to other fans and never have anything good to say?
Oh and Yid14, did I win?

Oh yeah that ESB crap is, well, errgh, crap.
Especially that Kosaros and Ishy double team of nerds. Guys spend all day scanning websites for boxing news and then just type crap when they come up with their own opinions.
And Ishy is a rascist.

As far as I'm concerned, debate is what boxing fans want on TV.
In the past, I've been critical because the pundits didn't seem to debate anything.... they all just seemed to agree with each other and it got kinda boring.
That's why I like the shows when guys like Colin Hart are on, they are prepared to stick their neck out and go against the company line, call me cynical but surely a group of boxing men can't agree on everything, can they?!?
Ringside is a welcome addition, it's high time Sky promoted the fighters that they are showing, too often you'd see a lad on TV and have no reason to really take ownership of him and his career..... a bit like the Steve Foster fight, we've not seen him on TV for years, now he's got a bit of momentum it needs to be seized upon by himself, his promoter and Sky alike, instead of wasting another three years facing journeymen.
Maybe it's me, I've only been watching boxing five years or so, and being from a rugby background I appreciate what you say when you state there is a real community feel. The difference is that the rugby establishment appreciate the fans much more than the boxing fraternity does - Barry Hearn calling fans geeks, and promoter putting on mismatches that are an insult to anyone with half a brain cell, including the prospect that they are supposed to be trying to build.
Perhaps if a promoter asked a fan to spend a day or two in his company to get a feel for what they do, the bridges could be built?

Now I can take stick, from the best of them. What I believe, though, is that you shouldn't insult someone behind a screen when you wouldn't dare say it to their face. That's what eastside is full of. People who love slagging fighters off for the sake of it with stupid playground name calling.
You're going on in your post above like you know how boxing works and it's clear to me that you don't. Saying I've used the line of "you don't understand what goes on behind the scenes" - Please show me where? As for showing you or telling you how it works - I don't know you from Adam!
I don't know how football works behind the scenes but you don't think Seven Gerrard is gonna turn round and say "Come on Smig, I'll take you to my next meeting with Hodgson, then Capello, then my financial manager" do you? And I know him!
As for "signing for fights" proves even more that you don't know how the game works.
Tonight's bill. Webb v Concepcion. You think Webb had much say in that? Concepcion's lost more fights than David and to lesser opposition. Next weeks fight. You think Walsh had any say on his opponent? Groves the week after. You think he said yes or no to Toney? Of course not.
As for criticising Carl Dilks, I never insulted the lad once. He was calling out every super middleweight in Britain. Being British champion I told him he was nowhere ready to fight me. He retaliated and then it went from there with the disagreement. I wished him well at the time and luck for his fight.
I've seen Carl a few times since at the gym I use for strength work and said hello and again wished him well, there's no bad feeling from either side.
My opinion of you from reading your posts still stands and it's that you think that because you may pay a Sky subscription or buy the tickets to a fight, you have a God given right to speak to fighters like shit. I disagree. You're a fan - just like I am and if I don't like the way Vitali Klitschko fights, I wouldn't call him a faggot and say he was shit knowing he was reading it. I'd be happy he was there to answer to my comments and I'd maybe offer something constructive. It's then up to him if he chooses to take advice from a faceless name.
There's a lot of great boxing people frequenting forums but also a good few dickheads that get above themselves and ruin it.

On the ESB lounge ive just come across a suicide video thats been posted! How the hell can people get away with posting vile stuff of that nature on there?!Thankfully i didnt watch it but still it shouldnt be allowed on there in the first place! When you sign up to these forums you have to agree to strict rules and yet in some cases they seem to be abused constantly and the moderators dont do anything!!
Re: Eastside boxing
People actually post that type of stuff here in the 'Other Sports' section. Recently we have had a video of a kitten being dismembered and a guy cutting off his own testicles. I don't understand why people watch this stuff and then feel the need to show others, but each to their own I guess.lefty wrote:On the ESB lounge ive just come across a suicide video thats been posted!

The reason Rob gets flak is because he suggests his opinion is fact. He does love the sport, but he's always one of those fans with a sense of entitlement - never a good thing.BIGMARK wrote:
One thing i have noticed is how they single some posters out on eastside. There is one poster called Rob Palmer and he can make a tit out of himself once in a while but this guy is just a boxing nut through and through yet it seems is always targeted which is a shame as the man loves the sport.

Oh, and Smigga, great post. There's nothing wrong with public criticism, but only if it's informed and fair. I haven't been on here in a while, I spend a lot of my time on ESB. Yeah, there are some asses and it has gotten worse. But there are 10 or so posters whose opinions and debate are always worth reading.
And Rob isn't one of them.

Re: Eastside boxing
just in case anyone from eastside misunderstood my last post on this subject, i don't mind constructive critiscism at all and you can ask anyone here about that. but when people are abusive to me for no reason and calling me names when I havn't gone around shooting my mouth off like some other boxers, then you have to question why these people are even wasting time on a boxing forum. If people think i am no good as a boxer no problem, everyone has an opinion, but don't start abusive comments about me and the name calling. I am respectful to everyone and it would be nice if some of the p[eople on ESB were the same. And robpalmer I know its not everyone but there is a large minority who are like this

Re: Eastside boxing
The Boxrec British forum provides better knowledgeable threads than its esb namesake. It is obviously more approachable for trade people to join in more regularly, than would be the case on esb. However, if you want old school knowledgeable discussion on boxing - the Classic forum on esb is hard to beat - I dont post on it, but I like to read it, plus the training forum is also very insightful. The General on esb is full of retards, but, believe it or not, there are some excellent posters salted in there who are obviously very familiar with the fight game and are real fight fans.
I have noticed boxers such as Willie Limond, Derry Matthews, Paul and Stephen Smith get abuse on esb - I think I have stuck up for all of those names on occasion, I think Derry Matthews got the worse stick out of all and it sickened me reading that shit. I think it is fair enough that boxers get criticism on their fights, matchups etc - but the personal insults are bang out of order. Mick Hennessey gets terrible abuse as well and I think it is way overboard, I would be a big fan of Hennessey's shows and he gets far too much stick.
That said, although I like both, I prefer esb because the layout is easier on the eye, it is busier, normally news breaks first there, the Irish Boxing Thread on the general forum, I am more familiar with the posters on there, and there are some very good posters i.e. TFFP, Intentional Butt, Ishy, GPater, dftaylor, Beeston Brawler and all of the Irish posters
. Plus, whether you like him or loathe him - Rob Palmer is a good poster on Esb - he just goes a bit overboard sometimes
Finally, the stick that Maloney is getting at the moment regarding his matchmaking is spot-on - he needs to pull up his socks, particularly with his prospects.
