Doctor should stop this, Briggs hasn't landed anything for a couple of rounds, and just took punishment. Ian Jon Lewis is the ref, he is looking closely, but Briggs isn't being that badly wobbled , so makes it hard for him to halt it

rocks for brains some of these cornermen.Old bones Ian wrote:Doctor should stop this, Briggs hasn't landed anything for a couple of rounds, and just took punishment
same with sam peter.
too much pride to quit and they just kept sending him out for another beating.
should operate a tag system and see how they like it.

Yes his corner are absolutely USELESS. Best advice they can offer is Yeah Baby, that's it baby, as their man gets a brutal beatdown.
Ian John Lewis would stop this, normaly

This is brutal to watch. Amazing bravery from Briggs, amazing stupidity from his corner........cue a massive counter.....

Amazing pride to hang in there for 12, brutal punches and he's barely landed one counter. If he had a half decent corner, rather than a bunch of clueless fan boys, he'd have been pulled out 5 rounds ago, and saved a severe and prolonged battering.

Horrible to watch but phenomenal pride shown by Briggs. He was like a walking punchbag.

Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
Ian John Lewis had an absolute stinker there. It was fairly clear he had no intention of stopping that fight, and Briggs took a shitload more punishment than he should have done. Shipping punches with no return, and he could have been seriously hurt. I'm normally complaining about early stoppages, but that was a shocker not to stop that before the final bell.
Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
Spot on. Watched it on a stream.jamesmcdonnell wrote:I'm not paying to watch some asthmatic carthorse get pummelled. This fight stinks! Briggs is 10 years past his best, and let's face it, he was never THAT good in the 1st place.
Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
Briggs' brain will have been really shook up by a volley of Klitschko shots for 36 minutes.
Silly really taking all them shots like that.

Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
IJL is a terrible ref. How didn't he stop that! And the way he does that marching up and down, with a sideways look at the boxers before elaborately flinging himself in between them at the bell. He plays to the cameras so badly.

Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
Given the cr@p Shannon talked, his behaviour at the weigh in and his obvious steroid abuse, I was laughing for the first 5 rounds at the battering he took.G0mez wrote:Briggs' brain will have been really shook up by a volley of Klitschko shots for 36 minutes.

Then I was amazed at his his heart and courage.....he landed 5 punches in the whole fight it seems. I couldn't believe his corner didn't pull him out. And that guy in his corner who kept talking nonsense loudly "stay away from his right" "it's nuts and guts champ" "throw some punches champ"...etc etc
I thought Shannon was classy in the interview, but that beating is the kind that makes a pro go punchy earlly. It was brutal.

Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
Didn't watch the fight but judging by the reviews it sums up where we're at in the heavyweight division. Other then Haye who do we have who we believe can challenge the Klitch's ? Chisora? Nah not for me its a joke of a division. The sad thing is its improved with the inclusion of Haye.
Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
Haye was ringside with Dana White at UFC 120 in London!
Briggs is a sick man, he has done well to get this far.

Ian John Lewis is a great ref. He may have finally stopped people puuting wahed up names in with World Champions.chrisfinch wrote:Ian John Lewis had an absolute stinker there. Briggs got the beating he had coming.
Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
That was as one sided as you see with our heavyweight prospects against imports and they are pulled out after a couple of rounds so why on earth Briggs was allowed to take that amount of punishment is beyond me.
The "its a world title argument" don't wash, there was never any point after the sixth where he had the remotest chance of winning and by the eighth he was eating everything to the head, corner was crap totally agree but thats why we have someone else responsible for the mans welfare.
The nature of the fight should not really come into it, you will see an import stopped after taking 3 rounds of that every week in our rings and yet this 12 round beating continued to the final bell.
Never really come close to turning off a fight due to being sickened but I almost did there.

Hahahahaha!
Sorry, just got up because I gave up watching last night about the ninth round -- to find the giant arm-punching lunk couldn't even put him away?

Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
I also thought that if you talk yourself into a HW payday that you're not deserving of or prepared for you have to take the beating that comes with it but i started feeling sorry for Briggs after round 8. His steroid enhanced neck muscles (and heart) served him too well.
I don't think the ref had much choice about stepping in mid round as Briggs not out of it for more than a second at a time as Vit didn't sustain his attacks and he was boxing and defending himself all the way. However he should have told the corner that unless it became competitive he'd stop it to prompt the corner to pull them out himself which they obviously shouldn't have needed prompting for. I can't think why they wouldn't this title fight was the end goal what difference would a stoppage loss on his record make now?
Briggs was humbled in the post fight interview i half expected him to say that because of his asthma he should have won or at the least get a shot at Wlad.

Re: Klitchsko vs Briggs.
thats the most eliquent way of saying 'Briggs got the s*it beat out of him, and he won't be so mouthy again'MachoMan09 wrote:During the days of the USSR, the KGB would take pestilential dissidents away and subject them to prolonged torture that would figuratively (and occasionally literally) emasculate the mischief-maker to the point where his militancy was forever quelled. The physical and psychological permanacy of the damage doled out during the affliction only truly manifested itself in the days, weeks, months and years following the cessation of the original torment. Strong, bombastic individuals would become wavering and timorous. This type of devolution can rarely be brought about with a swift beating or stern chastisement. In the manner of the KGB of yore, Vitali Klitschko dispenses the type of punishment that ruins men: urbane, clinical, protracted and brutal.
I just rewatched the fight. Briggs was brave but, in my view, he will never be the same again. Like a caponised fowl, there will always be something missing. He is unlikely to ever display his trademark magniloquence in quite the same way again.
