Why do you feel the need to try to limit the freedom of others?
lefty's correct. If they want to watch such vile things, that's up to them. They shouldn't be putting it on a public forum.

ed robinson wrote:Getting back to the original post, I think this thread is very interesting and balanced with lots of contrasting opinions. That's why I'm more of a fan of this site than Eastside. Personally I think constructive criticism is great. Calling someone names is just a bit pathetic isn't it? It's all very well saying that you can just scroll through the more childish comments but they tend to be the ones that stick in your mind.

If I can answer a couple of posts directly, namely BIGMARK, LeedsLad and Rob Palmer - Thanks for the feedback. Any suggestions or observations are always much appreciated. Editing takes much, much longer than many would imagine so there is a lot of work that goes into the shows. It's ironic that the couple of debates that we've done on Ringside seem to have been so popular because they are actually very easy to produce. It's much more time consuming to spend a day directing a cameraman with Sam Webb, a day with Martin Concepcion in Leicester then a day looking through all your tapes and logging them, digging old fights out the library, writing scripts and then sitting in an edit suite for hours. All to make a few minutes of TV. That's my job in the week and it's wonderful but I am just an employee. I don't take personal offense if someone has a pop at the company I work for or feels frustrated that a big fight isn't signed. At the same time though, I don't have any say in what fights are bought and if I do know some gossip then I'm not in a position to say anything about it. So Rob, the comments about Sky coverage aren't what offends me. There is a real community in boxing, full of great characters - boxers, trainers, journalists, fans.... It's one of the things that I love most about my job, I feel this website reflects that. Eastside for me does not. I've occasionally seen something that I consider offensive, then looked through all that posters previous efforts and not seen them ever say one positive thing about anyone or anything. How can someone be a fan of the sport, talking to other fans and never have anything good to say?

Oh and Yid14, did I win?
Yes mate you did, I just looked you up (on boxrec) and didn't realise you had 3 fights, and all at the elephant and castle. It was your 3rd fight :TU:
Any chance of a comeback? :bag:

Interesting to see so many Eastsiders turn up here to defend the place and highlighting the snobbery here. Whats wrong with a little snobbery - I would have a slash on half a ye if ye were engulfed in a ball of flames.

As for the guys that have turned up - I have little time for most of them with the exception of 'gasman'.

The best thing about ESB is the 'Irish boxing' thread on the general forum. Outside of Boxing-Ireland.com, it is the best source of information on the irish scene anywhere on the net and between the guys that post on it there isnt a fighter that isnt covered. Its a pleasure to post there. :TU:

I am the first to admit i can go OTT. If I like something i will say, if i hate something I will say. Would rather see people on forums with opinions than just endless posts about "Lennoz Lewis had a really good jab"

With regards to Paul Smith, I think his post just sums up why he gets so much stick.

I'd say this rather sums up how you just don't get it.

His post is fine, as far as I can see. And even if it you don't agree, he explains where he's coming from.

As you say, it's good to have opinions but it's even better if they're rational and supported rather than someone just saying 'X is rubbish, etc' as happens quite often on forums.

I've no issue with the forum side of ESB. There's a lot of idiots there but also some decent folk who know their stuff.

My problem with ESB is that as so-called boxing news website it degrades what being a news source is all about. Other than the work of James Slater, the site has no real journalistic merit.

The problem is that there is no editorial control there at all. They just publish any old rubbish that people send them and do not even bother to correct errors. ESB isn't really a website at all, it's basically a blog and one that's seriously lacking in credibility.

People like James work hard to produce exclusive content such as interviews with fighters but his work is undone by the amount of dross "I think" pieces badly written by people who believe they are the fountain of all boxing knowledge but have probably never met a boxer or even been ringside at a show.

You'll always get your share of nobheads on forums. I respect the likes of Smigga & Warmachine for coming on and contributing to good debates. It must be tempting to get into a battle with some of the keyboard warrior types - I know they're not worth the effort but it must be hard to ignore some of the crap that gets thrown about.

I think Smigga's post earlier in the thread shows a boxer that is open to debate with fans, is very grounded in his attitude and expresses himself thoughtfully and clearly. As a fan I find this very good for the sport and getting an insider's perspective is very interesting. Long may it continue.

Bigmark. You took the bait mate. It was an ironic thread started by me for a laugh. I just wanted to see how long it took for someone here to pick it up. You can't have actually read the thread then.
This proves to me that there is a moron inside us all waiting to burst out. I live the debate, but I gotta have some fun with it to!!

The problem with ESB is the lack of a British moderator.

I've been on there the best part of three years and can honestly say that in the past 12 months the quality has been diluted somewhat...... it's obvious that the website owners want to increase traffic, and thus letting aliases get away with more than what they'd get away with usually and such. When Achilles and Longcount were modding the Brit forum people were banned for stepping out of line, as it was Achilles was demoted for promoting the requesting of illegal streams and Longcount for banning a notoriously racist poster.

The General forum a.k.a. Retard Room is probably as bad, if not slightly better than the current scene forum on here..... both wipe the floor with BS's forum, for what it's worth.

Sometimes I think this forum is a little bit like a closed shop, and posters are reluctant to criticise fighters that post on here - see Larry's ''you wouldn't say that to my face'' line - well, personally speaking, yes I would (I'm not a critic btw).... likewise Paul Smith, who has several times shot posters down accusing them of ''knowing fornicate all'' - if he can't accept reasonable, constructive criticism then pehaps he shouldn't post on here, though in fainress if someone is getting personal - as Rob has at times he's entitled to pull him for it.

ESB would be better off with the likes of Ian posting more regularly, I've had the odd discussion with him on occasion about various things..... it's all good of course.

The likes of Jamie Moore are very popular on there, and I can't think of anyone that's had problems with Dave Coldwell either......

The whole thing is to do with esb of boxrec being the better forum my purpose was to highlight that there are as many morons here as there are on esb. Don't get me wrong, i am a moron! They think I am crazy over on esb coz I like smith as a fighter. So what? Does that make me less knowledgable or credible in terms of boxing knowledge? Not in my opinion. There's good bad and ugly in all walks of life, especially online. I love my boxing, and am grateful that we have places like here and esb to post on and keep up to date with. If I can't he forgiven being a bell end sometimes then I don't know what the world is coming to. Deary me
