AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
Had a quick look at Awuku stats on Boxrec. He has barely beaten anyone who has more than 1 win on their record.
Despite having approx 20 fights he's still fighting debutants until recently!!
Looks a proper "manufactured record." Be interesting how he fares. He has one named opponent on his "win" ledger, which has maybe qualified him for this shot.

Rated 15 by the WBA, so could be a useful win for Walsh!

Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
I think the biggest test for Liam will be making the 9 stone 4 limit. Were see how good he is then. I think he should have stayed at lightweight. Mature into the weight instead of struggling . He's a real good prospect no point rushing him.
Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
Appalling 'headliner'
I cant think of one that comes close.
And I say that as a fan of Walsh.

Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
Yep and in 2005 actually lost to one of these debutants. Rubbish fare, no way a headliner, is just a gift of a belt to boost Walsh's standing. I can see a mid-rounds stoppage.maninthemiddle wrote:Had a quick look at Awuku stats on Boxrec. He has barely beaten anyone who has more than 1 win on their record.

Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
No because I'm a light welter mate hope fullywoodhouse beats mcdonagh cause as I have read on allegedly site that he want to fight me again after pulling out last time an if he stops mcdonagh he surpasses well u win this one an I win my next then it's got to happen in February unless ur hands sore again so will be watching this fight with interest but from home cause last time it was suppose to happen but this time I'm sure he realises who would win
Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
woodhouse v mcdonagh - that sounds like a really interesting fight. that one should heat up - good style matchup, i'd think.

Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
Hopefully Walsh can win this one and set up Walsh v Appleby for the Commenwealth on the 4th in Glasgow or early next year if thats too soon for Walsh. I heard it was supposed to be Appleby fighting for this title on the 23rd first but hurt his hand in his last fight.
To be honest Frankie i think you should be aiming beyond Woodhouse for his next fight, hopefully youll be fighting for the British or Commenwealth title if you get past harrison in Dec.

I thought him getting a Commonwealth title shot based on his dodgy stats was the story, but its his WBA rating based on beating no one with a rating in the top 100!!whiteboy wrote:Rated 15 by the WBA, so could be a useful win for Walsh!

I know but he keeps calling me out an I don't like him so if it happens after this fight or I will look past him it's prob just trying to get publicity an not fightbluenoseshf wrote:Hopefully Walsh can win this one and set up Walsh v Appleby for the Commenwealth on the 4th in Glasgow or early next year if thats too soon for Walsh. Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
the fight would probably gain interest what with him being ex footballer and what not, so it could be worth you knocking him out just for a bit of extra publicity.Frankie Gavin wrote:I know but he keeps calling me out an I don't like him so if it happens after this fight or I will look past him it's prob just trying to get publicity an not fightbluenoseshf wrote:Hopefully Walsh can win this one and set up Walsh v Appleby for the Commenwealth on the 4th in Glasgow or early next year if thats too soon for Walsh. Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
Ive always thought Liam is the better of the 3 Walsh brothers, they all won titles as Amatuers...think he giv Swifty a good fight in the ABAS..
Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
I think they've gotten a bad rep from some quarters. Probably the Naz-showboating against a journeyman.jBacca wrote:Indeed.Autobarn wrote:who's walsh?

Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
Yeah you're right, it was Michael doing the Naz stuff. I haven't seen the other two do anything bad though.G0mez wrote:I think they've gotten a bad rep from some quarters. Probably the Naz-showboating against a journeyman.jBacca wrote:Indeed.Autobarn wrote:who's walsh?

Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
They do come across a bit chav-bellend-ish to be honest. Not a big fan of over-cocky young fighters but hey it worked for Naz. :-)jBacca wrote:Yeah you're right, it was Michael doing the Naz stuff. Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
Unbeaten Norfolk man Liam Walsh steps up against Ghana’s seasoned and useful-looking Maxwell Awuku in a surprise challenge for the vacant Commonwealth super-featherweight title at York Hall this Saturday (October 23). The title was made vacant by new WBO champion Ricky Burns.
Southpaw Walsh, who has been boxing at lightweight and never gone past six rounds, is a solid puncher and the best of three brothers currently boxing professionally which explains his move into the championship stakes after just nine fights. It also helps that Walsh sells tickets. However, his Ghanaian opponent can fight, having won 17 on the spin (10 early) since he was outscored in an eight-rounder in his homeland in 2005, for his only defeat in 22 fights (one draw).
Standing out among Awuku's wins is a nine-round stoppage of South Africa’s Lehlohonolo Ledwaba in 2006 in South Africa. (Ledwaba never fought again.) Southpaw Awuku clearly whacks a bit, has never been stopped and went the full championship 12 rounds when he outscored Joseph Laryea last year. He’s also more comfortable at super-featherweight than Walsh, who will not enjoy getting down at all.
Nevertheless, the Ghanaian has never travelled outside of the African Continent before, and the 24-year-old Walsh should have the desire, fitness, support and the dig to gain the visitor's respect and to force his way to an exciting decision.

Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
Walsh is a huge fav in the books. Does anyone see any value in betting on Awuku or is he just a stepping stone? Thanks.
Re: AWUKU V WALSH THIS SAT
I have done a betting preview at my site boxing betting. I personally don't see ANY value betting on one of these african guys who they pick out for the commonwealth title fights. They are usually low level guys, if they were a threat, Mr Warren and his matchmaker wouldn't pick them.mpurintun wrote:Walsh is a huge fav in the books.
