Re: DAVID PRICE TO JOIN JEFFREIS
Anyone have any more on this? Did he do well out there or did he just not want to put the effort in?Final round wrote:I remember hearing Fury had sparred the Sauerland stable.G0mez wrote:I interviewed Brian Hughes, who has been to the Wildcard and has a relationship with one of their trainers too from years back.warmachine wrote:yeah sorry, i meant they come from all over the states, not just LA. and I also have the benefit of freddie roach guiding me in the gym which i wouldn't get in germany or russia
Anyway he said the Sauerland gym in Germany, which is purely Cruiserweights and Heavyweights is by far the place to be for sparring that he's seen in his time in boxing. Said it was purely 200lb+ guys and that was it.
Lots of gold / silver amateur star big guys from the eastern block and poo load of massive heavyweights looking to impress from all over Russia.
Tyson Fury sparred Robert Helenius, Obenga, , Ledebev, Alexeev, all in a day.
How come he didn't continue? I know he's going over to Steward which is great news but was just interested.
Thanks

The sparring is very hard in the wildcard and sometimes a little too hard as I have seen guys come out with horrific injuries but thats the way it is. everyone wants freddie to take a look at them.

yep, he is a good boxer, but where is the devil in him? he seems reluctant as if he doesnt trust his defences or chin, i am not one to slag off anyone who gets in the ring, especially someone who was a very good amateur, but as a pro he needs to change his mentality amongst other things..hope he proves me wrong and becomes a destroyer..phil5555 wrote:bad mamma jamma wrote:

He doesn't need the 'devil' in him right now, fella. He needs rounds. He's been knocking people out with shots when he didn't seem to be looking for it.bad mamma jamma wrote:yep, he is a good boxer, but where is the devil in him? he seems reluctant as if he doesnt trust his defences or chin, i am not one to slag off anyone who gets in the ring, especially someone who was a very good amateur, but as a pro he needs to change his mentality amongst other things..hope he proves me wrong and becomes a destroyer..phil5555 wrote:bad mamma jamma wrote:

His last fight was exactly what he needed. Just watched it now and he looked spot on. Got the stoppage against a very durable opponent too.
Price needs bigger tests now. Get him in with McDermott, Frank!

Re: DAVID PRICE TO JOIN JEFFREIS
I was lucky enough to spend some time with Tony Jeffries and his team in Los Angeles on Thursday. I've got to say that I was really impressed with the set up. Tommy Brooks is an excellent, old school coach. Brooks doesn't have a massive ego and so he's probably not had the recognition that he deserves, like Audley's trainer he started boxing under Archie Moore. If Tony can handle the homesickness then it'll be great for him. I'm going to edit a feature on it for next weeks Ringside if anyone's interested. It was amazing, as a fan, talking to Simon Brown and Henry Tillman who were also in the Rock gym. When I told Brown that I'd followed him since he beat Shawn O'Sullivan he glowed. A wonderful day.

Great post Ed and full of insights as normal. I'm impressed with Jeffries taking such a radical step to improve so hope it works out for him. How is Simon Brown doing? He was a beast in his prime.ed robinson wrote:I was lucky enough to spend some time with Tony Jeffries and his team in Los Angeles on Thursday. Re: DAVID PRICE TO JOIN JEFFREIS
He seemed really well actually, not much above his fighting weight. We chatted about his fight with Maurice Blocker, they were good friends but they had such a brutal battle. I've known Tommy Brooks a long time because he's worked with a few of Frank Maloney's fighters over the years. He saw me trying to put a dollar in the drinks machine and rushed over with some bottles, telling me off for wasting my money. They really looked after us. The gym is massive, they share the space with a community church. Make no mistake though, where Tony's staying is not a glamourous part of town. He's showing a lot of ambition and determination basing himself out there. It won't be cheap either...
Re: DAVID PRICE TO JOIN JEFFREIS
I think it was the necessary move for Jeffries.
Hopefully he'll have some fights in the States over the next couple of years and come back much tougher mentally..... he seemed really fragile in his last fight.
Without his fans there cheering him on it might help him become more composed in the ring, against his opponents to date he's been bumrushing in far too much to get the job done inside a round. A couple of the opponents were terrible and he succeeded, against a decent opponent like Bambula he paid the price, not quite as dearly as he might have done if Bambula had had more belief earlier on.

Re: DAVID PRICE TO JOIN JEFFREIS
Hi mate, my stamina is eally good thanks. I have been doing alot of stuff with Alex Ariza and Micheal Vale and it has really helped. Also someone worked on my breathing in the ring which I never used to concentrate on and that has helped me immensely. I could have gone 10 rounds in my last one with ferguson so if I have to to the distance, I can do that.MachoMan09 wrote:How's your endurance coming along, Larry? Great post Ed ,Great for Jeffries getting out of his comfort zone and Sunderland. Tony is shown a lot of ambition and fair play to him. Ed do you no when his boxing next,????Tommy Brooks is a world class coach Tony will learn a lot from him.ed robinson wrote:He seemed really well actually, not much above his fighting weight. Re: DAVID PRICE TO JOIN JEFFREIS
You know what Ed? Shawn O'Sullivan could have a fight aswell couldn't he? But like a few canadian world class amateurs of around that time he didn't quite have the savvy to make it really big= Willie De Witt,Scotty Olson.ed robinson wrote:I was lucky enough to spend some time with Tony Jeffries and his team in Los Angeles on Thursday.
