What happens if belts are dropped?
What happens if belts are dropped?
Basillio is facing his mandatory for two of the main belts. What would happen now if Basillio (Sock) chose to drop the other three belts?

Re: What happens if belts are dropped?
Basilio has to face Robinson to satisfy the WBA and IBO, otherwise those two will be stripped. The other sanctioning bodies were taken care of last week when Williams fought Basilio, who was the #1 challenger for those three belts. The deadline for those 3 to have another mandatory faced therefore got reset again, this time to week 22.
Remember the mandatory dates don't change just because the belts swap hands. That rule was put in place just for that reason, the belts change hands so much.
As for the original question of what happens when belts get stripped or dropped, the two highest ranked, eligible fighters for that belt would be offered the chance to fight for the belt.

Thanks.
I see Walker and Armstrong are the two eligible fighters if the WBC, IBF and WBO belts were dropped.
What would be the case though if say Armstrong and Napoles were 2 & 3 for one of the available straps?
Would you have Walker and Armstrong fight for the two belts they are eligible for, and then for the last available belt, have Napoles v whoever else is next in line?
Am just trying to clear things up, because if I did get the belts back, I'd be looking to drop a few to spice things up.

If more than one belt become available, I think the best thing to do it break them up. It would just be a matter of going down the rankings until we get the matchups. I can't see making one fight for three stripped belts, wouldn't be fair really.

Yeah, sounds good. Guess it's the whole point of dropping the belts, so everyone gets a shot.
