He's 34, they'll need to get a move on.

yes, next year you'd hope something big happens. the man seems to have real talent, built himself back up after 4 hard fights with bantam champ veeraphol, and as champion at 122 seems capable of delivering something big. i would hope for poonsawat to win his title back vs lee and a unification with nishioka, failing a fight with montiel.

at world level, when your man goes into a crouch right in front of you, putting your gloves round your head an hoping for the best probably isn't going to work, sadly. IMO Rendall needed to try knocking/pushing Nishioka off-balance when he postured down for the bodyhots, pretty much every right hand to the body, there was that split-second between dropping level and throwing the punch where Rendall froze, suspended-animation style. and then bang in went another one under or behind his left elbow. ouch.

Excellent fight. Brilliant effort from Rendall. Tremendous world champion.

I totally underestimated the champion. He was absolutely formidable.

Couldn't ask anymore of Munroe and I hope he can come back and win a world title at the 2nd attempt.

Love to see a fight with Montiel who seems to be getting better and better as the years go by.

Monroe simply wasn't good enough, no shame in that. The champ had an answer for everything he did. He looked uncomfortable for a couple of rounds, but then made the adjustments, that's what a world champion, a proper world champion at any rate, can do.

The guy seriously impressed me, he had lovely boxing skills, a great defence, fast hands, and in combination, a serious dig.

Those body shots he was whaling away with round after round are what took their toll, he clearly saw that Monroe was a tough man, realised that head shots probably wouldn't get him out of there, and so went downstairs, knowing it would rob monroe of his stamina, which was his main asset.

Masterful stuff from Nishi, a real pleasure to watch, even though 'our' man lost.

been watching on youtube. that was some of the best boxing from a southpaw this year, from nishioka. lateral movement, combinations, head shots, body shots, power. tremendous offensive skills, and for me he's fulfilled the promise he showed in those 2 gruelling draws with thai legend vereraphol over half a decade ago. munroe earned that shot and nishioka put on a performance showing all his experience and talent.

nishioka's previous fight is also an impressive performance, his 5th round stoppage of filipino prospect bangoyan. he drops the guy with one of the shortest and most sudden left crosses i've seen. the man has a lot of snap and proved he deserves his title yesterday.

glad ppl are impressed by nishioka, a fighter i've been a fan of for some time.

Id definitely like to see more of him.

He did looked quite shocked by the physicality of Monroe to begin with, kind of reminded me of mayweather, who looked a little disquieted in the early going by Hatton. Like M<ayweather, he proved that he had the skills to adjust and take the play away from his opponent.

Monroe did very well to last the distance, because Nishioka went for the stoppage a couple of times late on.

Shame he's nearer the end than the beginning, and he neverm, like most japanese fighters, got a chance to shine on the world stage, because he's a great little fighter.

not surprised he had trouble early with munroe's size, nishioka being a former bantamweight. good that he could make the adjustment.

i think the timing was all wrong for nishioka. his promoters threw him against veeraphol 4 times, which is very punishing for a young, raw fighter (as he was back then). he just couldn't quite get the job done, though he fought extremely well in the 2 draws.

As I said somewhere in the post-whoring thread, I was deeply upset that we didn't get the Japanese TV feed of the occasion, just to see if they still do those big swooshing graphics across the screen like they used to do every time Ricardo Lopez went over to Tokyo to beat up some poor Japanese sod. It was great.

I was looking forward to that (sniff).
