Ambrose Palmer 100 year birthday tribute
Then its the Sweet Science 100 year birthday celebration of the late great Ambrose Palmer a former Australian middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight champion of the 1930's who had wins over Ron Richards, Fred Henneberry, Jack Haines. Palmer then starred for Footscray in the VFL for 10 years before becoming a boxing trainer with champions in every Australian division except for flyweight and working with world champions Johnny Famechon, Rocky Mattioli and Commonwealth champion Paul Ferreri.
Guests including:
- Terry "Grinna" Grinsted: 28-3 TV Ringside fighter of the early 70's to join us as our in studio guest to talk about his experiences with Ambrose Palmer as a trainer and as a man.
- John "Hank" Stanley - Professional boxer from the late 40's, promoter and boxing historian to talk about his mate Ambrose.
- Johnny Famechon - Former world champion and one of Australia's greatest fighters to pay tribute to Palmer and talk about Palmers "The Method" fighting technique.
- Bryan Membrey: Former boxer, current historian and leading boxing artist to talk memories of Ambrose.

I m a recent convert to this show, even had to buy an AM Radio for it. Absolutely no critisism but it would have suited me better on later. But hey nothing is perfect. I would have thought Paul Ferrari would have been a good interview on this one as well. Am I right in saying that both Paul and Fammo only boxed as Pro?

You are right Grant; Ambrose did not train amateur boxers....Fammo and Ferreri did not fight as amateurs....nor did many other of Palmer's boxers; those that fought amateur would have fought these amateur bouts, prior to coming to Ambies.

It was a good show last night. Some good stories by some keen story tellers
especially Mr. Hank Stanley. There is a bloke that can connect a lot of the dots
between legends and our legendary locus.
