When taking photos at boxing, advice please

Hey guys, I need you to give me some advice when taking some photos boxing. I will be at the ring side or on the balcony.

This is a camera I have: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/a510.html (Canon PowerShot A510)

What the best manual setting I should set? (Automatic setting should be switch off?).. It might be quite dark there but I dont know.

what the shutter speed I should set, F2.0? etc ? I dont want photos end up being blurred (when fast movement).

In general, you can't use a slower shutter speed for action shots.
So go for the normal shutter setting. It only really helps in poor lighting situations when he target is static and you have a tripod.

Get there early, take some practise shots of the undercard, although that may not help with the lighting.

You'll want a fast shutter speed. Like the other chap said, take some practice shots early on. It's important you try to keep as steady hands as poss. Post up some of the pics for us to see after!

can you set the film speed? coz u may want to have a fast film speed which will allow you to have faster shutter speeds.

Fast shutter speed is required for objects which are moving.

However this means less light is in the picture. I think this can be corrected by altering the aperture (spelling?) to let more light in. This should be adjustable on a digital camera.

A good photo software package normally removes the darkness when you adjust the brightness/contrast levels. Also the ring itself is well lit so you should be OK.

On a side note is flash on cameras allowed at boxing matches (or does it glare the boxers?) ?
