He's not very good. The most massaged record in allegedly's history as a promoter. I'm not even sure he's the best at domestic level. He should have never been allowed near a world level fighter and never should again.
If Carl Johannsen would have been in better shape he would have taken him out... unfortunately, he gassed and Mitchell went on to win due to superior conditioning only - not superior ability.

isn't it funny that so many people slate boxers after their first defeat and then to start to question their ability in the 1st place.Happy Slapper wrote:He's not very good. Fact is that like any sportsman Boxers do have off nights, but unfortunately for them it can be quite costly. The trick is how they bounce back and learn from their first defeat.
I agree with others that Kev froze on the night, mainly due to the expectation that was thrust on his shoulders by appearing in front of thousands of fellow West ham fans. But he'll learn how to channel the expectation when it comes his way again.

I actually said before the fight that I thought he was crap and he'd get KO'd early.

Come on rankings mean nothing, anyone can get ranked unfortunately. I think Kevin is British level, no more. He had a really tough fight against Johanneson and never defended that title, which I think says a lot.Des1 wrote:You sound a little bitter, crap?Happy Slapper wrote:I actually said before the fight that I thought he was crap and he'd get KO'd early.
Never rated him, and never will.Yeah, a british, commonwealth champion and being world ranked must mean your crap yeah? Your post is a little to over emotional.

Tell me, are you saying then that your assesment of Mitchell is the same as 'Happy Slapper' that he is "crap" as I think thats a bit of an over emotional statement.

Well he was ranked with the WBO, the same organisation that gave Gary Lockett a shot at the middleweight title and twice moved a dead boxer up in their rankings, so yes rankings mean nothing when they come from the useless governing bodies.Des1 wrote:Ratings mean nothing, really?whatashambles wrote:Come on rankings mean nothing, anyone can get ranked unfortunately. OK. Yeah, he had no right having a tough fight with a British Champion, and showing character by coming through rocky moments against a heavy handed puncher, and also he had a relatively easy job in outboxing Prescott who completely smashed a current 'World' Champion Amir Khan....Oops, of course that was a fluke though so that doesn't count right?

He did well against Johanneson but a win over him and Prescott, who is pretty one dimensional, does not make him world class. He's not crap but I think he's British level, nothing more really. Think Murray, Arthur and Rees would beat him as well
Re: Where on earth does Kevin Mitchell go from here?
Really? I think him versus Murray is a pick 'em, but I'd take Mitchell to beat the other two. He's better than British level IMO.whatashambles wrote:Think Murray, Arthur and Rees would beat him as well

So now you say that Mitchell isn't 'crap'. Got that straight then as thats all what I had the issue about.whatashambles wrote:Well he was ranked with the WBO, the same organisation that gave Gary Lockett a shot at the middleweight title and twice moved a dead boxer up in their rankings, so yes rankings mean nothing when they come from the useless governing bodies.Des1 wrote:Ratings mean nothing, really?whatashambles wrote: Come on rankings mean nothing, anyone can get ranked unfortunately. What a dreadful, ignorant post. Mitchell has his limitations, but losing to a guy that has been a nightmare for everyone he's faced (and has only lost to the elite of his division) is nothing to be ashamed of.Happy Slapper wrote:He's not very good. As for the Johannesen fight... get a grip - Kevin was beating Carl out of sight for until he opted to trade. He got caught, survived the round without going down, then came back to win in stunning fashion. Kevin won that fight with heart, skill and stamina.
Let's see how he comes back before throwing him under a bus. His loss was to a proven terror, unlike Khan's to someone who Mitchell has beaten and hasn't looked anything remarkable since. A loss doesn't define a fighter, how they come back from it does.

Before the intelligently challenged begin drooling over, and thumping their keyboards in a desperate attempt to spread their bile; they would do well to remember the wise words of the 16th American president: Abraham Lincoln.
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

How anyone can think losing to Katsidis is a terrible indictment is beyond me. He's an incredible little fighter, and was way way more experienced than Mitchell. I think his camp were maybe gambling in Katsidis' career catching up with him, but that proved not to be the case.fluxstuff wrote:What a dreadful, ignorant post. Mitchell has nothing to be ashamed of. He is a little shy of world class, but Katsidis is definitely a world class fighter.
