How Valuev hasn't been used in a Jaws (James Bond) role I don't know. I guess he doesn't need the money.

Alot of people thinks John McD fight is a good learning fight for Larry imo John will be too much for him, if he does a number on John then thats making a statement
John is back training with old trainer CJ and is training well and pushing him self again.

Ever trained?

His stamina for a heavyweight is good, you try going rounds with some of the people he has, I just think he's never gonna have that chisseled look

I think Larry has improved immensely and think it shows great dedication and willingness to learn by going off to the wildcard gym in America not long back

Good luck in your next fight Larry

Why not? He's both higher-ranked and better than anyone Larry's fought so far.

I think Larry is a top lad and always looking to learn. I wish him all the success in the world.

But there seems a consensus in some parts that Mcdermott is a stepping stone...that certainly isn't the case. Mcdermott was so close to beating Williams and obviously beat Fury....remember, it was only a few fights ago that Larry was beaten by Danny Peret...

If this fight goes ahead John starts as the favourite...and if Larry beats him then he becomes a title challenger...but if Larry isn't ready John beats him all day long, and do you know what? I think Larry knows that..

Why make so much of him ALMOST beating Williams. Williams has been badly damaged goods for some time now. McDermott should have won both those fights, and his lack of self belief cost him in both cases.

Larry may be a bit raw, but he is aggressive and powerful, and hungry, I think that should be enough to see him through with the improvements he's made.

To be fair Danny was coming of getting robbed against Platov and beating Alrich, two very good performances, plus beating Gammer for the title...don't think the Danny who got beaten by Chisora was the same as the one who fought Mcdermott....

Still, there is a big step up from beating Colin Kenna to facing John....John may be a bit weak mentally but he is 10 times better than anyone Larry has fought before.

And I will be supporting Larry :TU:

It was a shockingly bad performance vs Alrich... and given Gammer's subsequent form - his display against the Welshman wasn't exactly vintage. He did get bashed around from pillar to post against Sosnowski between the McDermott fights.

Danny was shot after Klitchsko - maybe even before that.

The point I am making is that it is all about levels. Danny looking scrappy and winning the British title against a not so great champ is still better than the guys that Larry has been facing...Tyson Fury, despite the stick he gets is better than the guys Larry has been facing.

If Larry is top notch he will beat Mcdermott...if Larry isn't as good as some think then Mcdermott is the kind of guy who will exploit that.

Sorry, you are completely right, but lets not get carried away that McDermott is something great or anything. If you struggle against John, then I think you need to forget about any world title aspirations - British champion is the best you can be.

Agree Tyson Fury has fought better guys than Larry, and doesn't deserve the stick he gets. He's is young and being a British title challenger (and possibly champion, depending who is the holder) isn't a mean feat. However, that's going to be his limit - although there is possibly more room for improvement in Tyson than Larry (given Tyson's "conditioning" and youth).

He may not look that great physically but don't think that means he never trains. I can guarantee you he is a VERY hard trainer.

By that reckoning he should be a middleweight! I can't vouch for his diet but I've seen him train and he certainly puts lots of effort in.

If mcdermott does train hard then his diet must be abysmal as there is no way he would be that fat if he had a good training/diet plan before fights.

Former ABA champion, McDermott, is a capable boxer and would be a step-up for Olubamiwo.

The stick McDermott receives re: his weight, is sometimes a tad harsh but it is warranted. Had he chosen to get his diet in order, he would've almost certainly achieved more than he has in the game.

Hardly. OK, the stoppage wasn't nice, but it was an even affair until that point.

I Like BIG MacDermot, he gets some undue stick on here because of his appearance, but he gives 100% and is MEGA unlucky not to have a win over Tyuson Fury on his resume (whoever said they've seen no evidence of BIG John training needs to wind their neck in........ or watch some of his fights)

IMO he's the only British HW title gatekeeper around at the mo and he should be in for some cracking fights in the not too distant future going by the rafts of British HW's coming through.

I thought I heard that BIG John was fighting MASSIVE Larry, but it's not on the Boxrec schedule, did I dream this fight was happening?

I don't think he was ever the same after the Tyson fight myself. His punch resistance seemed much depleted when he faced Vitali. The first flush shot he took had him wobbling around like Ann Widdacombe's midriff during the cha-cha-cha. Vitali isn't exactly a one shot ko artist, but everything he hit Williams with hurt him. In subsequent fights he was also easily hurt.

People seem to forget that he really had to walk through a lot of punishment to pull out the win over Tyson. He was getting nailed for almost two whole rounds.
