Can Khan beat Naseem's Record

Post by Foggy »

I was reading on good old teletext that Khan wants to beats Naz's record for the youngest british world champ (21), anyone think he can do it ???

I personally want to see him turn pro and if he does good look to the lad, i just hope that he his ready to come to the big league, come on Amir kick Kindelans ass tomorrow night and turn pro.

I personally dont think that he'd beat Naz's record of 21 years old but he may take the professional ranks by storm.

i think he should walk before he can run. Sounds liek another Im gonna beat the record in the gym test in Superstars.
more brashness that makes Kev Mitchell look unassuming by comparison.

Why do people say these things when he hasnt even had a pro fight yet.
he aint a world champ in the amatauer game so he could be in for a rude awakening if you ask me, he seems to make a habit of setting himself up for a fall.

The way Amir has been built up, I think he can only be in for a fall. He def. now seems to me to be believing his own hype and it's all very well Frank saying he is going to be on the undercard of big fights like Mitchell has been but Kevin Mitchell isn't the name that Amir Khan is and now talks of being world champion before he's 21 when he isn't even a pro yet.

I think he is going to be brought down to earth with a bang tomorrow

Doesn't really mean a lot these days - do we consider the WBO a real world title anyway?

Yes - then Naz is a record breaker.
No - then he isn't.

Let's not even consider the WBU......

It's possible though - depends how good, or bad, Khan turns out to be.

And does he go for a world title at lightweight, or lightwelter?

If he gets matched well, learns from some tough fights, then finds himself in with the WBO champ 3 years down the road - say someone like the overhyped American who recently lost his title, then it's possible....

But if it's someone like Castillo...or Corrales - well that'd be a no then.

just find it strange everyone gives mtchell such a hard time when he is no where near as boastful as this guy, in fact if you read many of Kev's interviews he is very much one step at a time.

i cant warm to Amir as yet, Im sure he is alovely chap in person but they need to stop this bullshit.

Despite being a Lancastrian and having cheered myself drunk (that's the only explanation...) for the lad at the Olympics, I'll be quietly supporting Kindelan tomorrow night. It'll do the lad good to get knocked around a bit.

I don't think he'll be a champ by 21 because he won't have been moved fast enough. And he shouldn't be, either. Hamed could do it because of the style but Khan's style is not sufficiently far removed from convention to warrant anything other than a typcial Warren progression for the next couple of years.

Khan will get found out in the pros. He will move up to light welter and find these guys too solid.

Leave the kid alone. Those that knew of his achievements in the junior ranks were'nt surprised that he made the olympics. He destroyed seasoned internationals on his way to the final. Kindelan would beat most of the best pro world champions today at his weight. We were hearing the same arguments about Khan getting his commupence just before he fought the American guy post olympics. Get off his back. Show some support. The only reason he won't win a world title before he's 21 is cos Warrens gonna milk him as much as he can, feeding him substandard European opposition for the next 6 years or so.

Has it really come to us using the WBO Title as a benchmark for the setting of records.

Come on, Naz didnt become World Champion the night he beat Steve Robinson, here merely confirmed his status as the best featherweight in Britain.

IMO Naz fought for the proper World Title the night he fought MAB, and lost.

He´s saying Kindealn dont bang hard enough. I reckon the fight being at Light Welter will suit the older man more.

Kindealn could stop him, although I reckon a points win for Kindealn is most likeley.

Khan is in danger of breaking Naz' record of going from one of the most highly regarded boxers in the world to an irritating blowhard the way things are going. I'm not sure if it's the way he's being presented, but it's starting to look bad. Winning a silver medal in the olympics these days, is not as much of an achievement as it once was, and though at 17 it's quite an achievement, he's making Oscar DeLaHoya look humble the way he's going at the moment.

I don't recall RJJ, DLH, Sugar Ray Leonard, etc, all making such wild claiims.

Why should we 'leave him alone' and 'Show some support' - posters are making judgments on how they believe he will do.... why should people state he will beat Kindelan and become world champ before he hits 21 if we don't believe it?

You have strange logic.

And if craig watson almost knocked him out, there are plenty of pros who can finish the job.

I am just not convinced he will make it as a pro, though he is an excelle nt amateur.

E. Youre being too harsh. Khan has done absolutely nothing wrong since he came into the spotlight. Don't forget that last year he wasnt even allowed to box in the senior ranks in this country. He lost against Kindelan (valiantly) but which lightweight in the world would'nt. He would beat most lightweigtht in the pro world rankings. As far as being boastful goes, boxing is a sport about believing in your abilities. When you start doubting is when you start losing. He believes in his abilities and so do I. He did what he did in the olympics as a kid. Look at his stoppage record in the amateurs and you'll see he had some power. He's gonna fill out and do some serious damage in the pro game. The only thing that will let him down is Warren and those investing in him. I think he should pack his bags and go to the states. De la Hoyas promotional outfit would look after him.[/quote]

Whatever the weight..... If Khan thinks he's gonna be beating the likes of Castillo/Corrales or Tszyu/Cotto/Hatton in three years he's kidding himself.

Personally, I hope Kindelan bangs a bit of sense back into the lad tomorrow night. He's done nothing but be a prick since the Olympics.

Its all well and dandy for Mario Kindelan to slate Amir Khan for having no punch, being too chinny and basically lacking the ability to make it as a pro...but Mario Kindelan never won an Olympic medal at 17 years of age.

Granted Amir Khan wouldnt beat Diego Corrales right now. However Corrales got battered by Mayweather, and also by Casamayor in their first fight. Both Mayweather and Casamayor have quality ringmanship and I can conceivably see Khan developing this within the next three years.

If Khan has to reach the heights of Corrales, well the lad is already there in terms of skill, the rest depends on his heart, desire and adaptation to the paid ranks. At the hands of Castillo, Corrales was an outclassed and badily beaten man, it was his heart and desire that won him the fight.

I doubt Khan will be a real world champion. Especially if he signs with Spunk Waxworks.

Also - he is no longer ( imo ) that nice young chap you would root for. got a bit big headed if you ask me.

Calm down Khan - don't be a typical Spunk WaxWorks dummy!

He'll bag a WBU title no problems, that's just on a par with top domestic level now. The WBO might prove a bit more difficult, they seem to have moved up a notch in the past few years in terms of the quality of their champions and their belts seem to be worth more in the States now, making them harder for Brits to pick up so easily.

Yep, another one younger than Hamed.

I have Berg at 20yrs 7months, Lewis at 20yrs 10months, and Hamed at 21yrs 7months.

Though Lewis certainly had more global recognition for his title.
