Name every British challenger for a world heavyweight title

Post by oliverfennell »

Can you name every British challenger for a world heavyweight title?

http://www.sporcle.com/games/oliverf/ukheavies

NB1: Only linear and big 4 titles.
NB2: Includes those who won the title when challenging.
NB3: Includes those who are scheduled to challenge in the near future.
NB4: Multiple attempts are listed just once.
NB5: Surnames only are accepted.

Again, let me know if I've missed any, but I'm pretty sure I haven't.

Mr Fennell, :TU:

17 out of 21 - with two of them being on the tip of my tongue but I couldn't place the second name.

Good one - although worth mentioning it is evert British fighter who contested the world heavyweight crown (win, lose or draw)..... on the actual quiz it makes no mention of being Heavyweight only.

best wishes

I think you've missed the point, dude (and spoiled the game for everybody else).
Yep you spolit mate which took the fun of it. I managed to get 15 out of 21. Got to a flyer, struggled but then made a surge towards the end though

For the purpose of this quiz, I'm not recognising the "British version" of the title that Woodcock challenged for.

Interesting point. Without wishing to stir up the hornet's nest that is any discussion about UK/GB/Ireland, what do other members think? Does the UK claim him due to the political-geographical distinction of the time, or does he become retrospectively Irish?

Yes, amended to include "heavyweight", sorry. The title has a character limit, that's all, but I;ve made it clearer now.

I'd count him as Irish not British.

Haha.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't count him as British either.
