Paul Ingle
Just watching some of his old fights- what a fabulous fighter.
How good do you think he was?
How is he these days?

Re: Paul Ingle
very very good would be my judgement. top 5 british featherweight in last 20 years I'd say. others being naz, brodie? Harrison. not sure Billy Hardy cracks the top 5 but he's thereabouts.

no. glad you added them. edit; i think at his best Ingle would be better than either, think he'd outwork McMillan and out-skill Robinson, the latter would be an excellent fight.

Re: Paul Ingle
I see Paul on the odd time in Scarborough, like a previous person says he has put a lot of weight on. Last time i saw him he looked ok (ish) sat having a coffee in the Brunswick Centre with a mate. He didnt look ill but obviously with his injury he cant be 1005.
Great fighter, and went to see him against Naz in Sheffield and he was putting up a good fight until he got stopped. Im sure he now lives in Scalby, Scarborough.

Ingle was good, had good workrate and movement but lacked genuine one-hit power. He was doing ok against Naz and that got him another chance against Junior Jones, which was a pretty decent scrap.
I think a pre shoulder McMillan could have out-boxed him and a Robinson fight would have been interesting
Re: Paul Ingle
I'm bias maybe, but I think a prime Robinson would have smashed Harrison. A Robinson with fantastic durability - he did have Harrison doubled over in their fight.
Harrison get a high ranking cause of his longetivity, compared to some of the guys - but I think in a prime for prime setting. I would fancy Ingle, McMillan and Hokko to do him, in addition to Robinson. McKenzie would probably have been too small, but he would have given him problems while it lasted. Always felt Harrison would be too strong for Brodie though.
On FEATHERWEIGHT achievement over the last 20 years I think I would rank it something like.
1) Hamed, 2) Robinson, 3) Harrison 4) Ingle 5) Brodie 6)McMillan 7) Hodkinson 8) Cook 9) McKenzie 10) Hardy. (honourable mentions to the likes of Jon Jo Irwin, Gary Thornhill, Wayne McCullough).
If I was ranking it on a prime by prime basis it would be more like.
1) Hamed 2)Robinson 3) McMillan 4) Hodkinson 5)Ingle 6) Harrison 7) Brodie 8) McKenzie 9) McCullough 10) Hardy (9 or 10 could be anyone really - Irwin, cook worthy of a mention). Nothing between 2, 3, 4, 5 IMO.

Dont get me wrong McMillan was a class boxer but who did he beat to gain such a high ranking in your eye Stecca was his best win...Hoko best win Villasana far aways that win, plus Hoko beat better fighters i do believe if he hadnt ran into a inform Vargas he would have batterd Robbo...perhaps im being a tad biased coz as a youngster i loved watching him....opinons please people....ps im not a scouser

I am from North Yorkshire and have never heard anyone say a bad word about Ingle. He was loved in Scarborough in a Ricky Hatton sort of way and lived a very similar lifestyle to Hatton. He was always out on the piss between fights and absolutely hated being away from home.MachoMan09 wrote:His last fight was 1989; so you're wrong. Ingle was a really good fighter with a terrific work ethic. I distinctly remember that prior to his injury, a good few people who knew him didn't have a lot of praise for him as a person and essentially labelled him and his family as a bit of a nuisance around the area of Scarborough they are from. How much of this animosity was fuelled by jealousy is hard to tell, of course.
Re: Paul Ingle
It could be argued, that Ingles win over Junior Jones was alot more impressive than any of Naz's wins..... Maybe not as spectacular, but for me, more impressive.
Naz made a reputation beating seriously shop-worn opponents. Junior Jones had more left than any name fighter Naz beat.
